Wyatt Russell, Steven Spielberg movie

Deadline reports that Wyatt Russell (Thunderbolts*) is in talks to join Steven Spielberg’s upcoming event movie. The project already boasts a cast which includes Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer), Colin Firth (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Colman Domingo (Euphoria), Eve Hewson (Hedda), and Josh O’Connor (Challengers).

We don’t know much about the project itself, only that it’s said to be a UFO movie based on Spielberg’s own original idea, with David Koepp (Jurassic Park) writing the screenplay. A UFO movie from the man who gave us Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and War of the Worlds is pretty much all I need to know. Bring it on. Universal Pictures has already slated the project for a May 15, 2026 release.

Spielberg has also been working on a new movie based on Bullitt, the classic action thriller starring Steve McQueen. The project received an update late last year from Kristie Macosko Krieger, one of Spielberg’s producing partners. “I’m producing it. Steven [Spielberg] and Josh Singer, who is writing the script, they are working on the story,” Krieger said. “I hope we have a script soon as the writers’ strike put us behind a bit. But they are working on it – I couldn’t tell you if it’s the next movie we are making as I don’t know at this point. I think that it will be a wildly entertaining film.

Based on Mute Witness by Robert L. Fish, the original film starred Steve McQueen as a no-nonsense San Francisco cop who becomes determined to track down the underworld kingpin who killed the witness in his protection. Spielberg will direct the new Bullitt movie as well as produce it, with Josh Singer writing the script. Bradley Cooper is set to star in the project as Frank Bullitt. However, it won’t necessarily be a remake of the original 1968 film, but will instead tell an original story with the Frank Bullitt character at its center. Steve McQueen’s children, Chad and Molly McQueen, will executive produce the Bullitt project, as will Bradley Cooper.

Russell will next be seen reprising his role of John Walker/U.S. Agent in Thunderbolts* alongside Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Lewis Pullman, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The film is set to hit theaters on May 2, 2025.

Superman, reshoots, James Gunn

Earlier this year, James Gunn suggested that Superman wouldn’t need any reshoots, but it appears the cameras will be rolling once again. THR’s Heat Vision Newsletter states that “the movie will be doing a few days of additional shooting in Los Angeles in the near term” after recent test screenings.

For a film as big as Superman, a few extra days of reshoots are pretty minor, unlike some other comic-book movies I could mention (I’m looking at you, Captain America: Brave New World). When Gunn was asked about possible Superman reshoots this summer, he said he’s “done a total of one day of reshoots on my past two films combined.

I’m looking forward to seeing more from the film; hopefully, we may even see the first teaser trailer by the end of the year.

Superman stars David Corenswet (Pearl) as Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Ms. Maisel) as Lois Lane. The cast also includes Nathan Fillion (The Rookie) as Guy Gardner, a charismatic and slightly obnoxious member of the Green Lantern Corps; Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi (X-Men: First Class) as Mister Terrific; Anthony Carrigan (Barry) as Metamorpho; María Gabriela de Faría (Deadly Class) as The Engineer, a member of The Authority; Sara Sampaio (At Midnight) as Eve Teschmacher; Skyler Gisondo (The Righteous Gemstones) as Jimmy Olsen; Wendell Pierce (The Wire) as Perry White; Neva Howell (Logan Lucky) as Martha Kent; Pruitt Taylor-Vince (The Walking Dead) as Jonathan Kent; and Nicholas Hoult (The Great) as Lex Luthor.

The members of the Daily Planet newsroom have also expanded for the movie, with Beck Bennet (Saturday Night Live) set to play Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover (The Suicide Squad) as Cat Grant, and newcomer Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe.

DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran has previously teased that Superman will not be an origin story and will focus on “Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Superman represents truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned.Superman is slated to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.

James Mangold, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Many hoped that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny would wipe away the bad taste of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but the long-belated sequel didn’t quite hit the mark. The film received mixed reviews and was one of the biggest box office bombs of the year, grossing $384 million worldwide on a budget said to be well over $300 million. While speaking with Deadline, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director James Mangold said he was hurt by the reaction to the film. He also wondered if audiences weren’t ready to accept Indy in his twilight years

You have a wonderful, brilliant actor who’s in his eighties. So I’m making a movie about this guy in his eighties, but his audience on one other level doesn’t want to confront their hero at that age. And I am like, I’m good with it,” Mangold said. “We made the movie. But the question is, how would anything have made the audience happy with that, other than having to start over again with a new guy?

Mangold had intended on making A Complete Unknown at the time, but the project was put on hold due to COVID and Timothée Chalamet being busy making Dune. It was at that point he was approached by Steven Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy, and Harrison Ford. “And then here come lifelong heroes from my childhood into my life going, ‘We have something for you to work on.’ It was a joyous experience, but it hurt,” Mangold said, “in the sense that I really love Harrison and I wanted audiences to love him as he was and to accept that that’s part of what the movie has to say—that things come to an end, that’s part of life.

Here’s the official synopsis for A Complete Unknown: “Set in the influential New York music scene of the early 60s, A Complete Unknown follows 19-year-old Minnesota musician Bob Dylan’s (Timothée Chalamet) meteoric rise as a folk singer to concert halls and the top of the charts – his songs and mystique becoming a worldwide sensation – culminating in his groundbreaking electric rock and roll performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965.” In addition to Chalamet, A Complete Unknown stars Edward Norton, Elle Fanning and Monica Barbaro. The film also co-stars Boyd Holbrook, Dan Fogler, Norbert Leo Butz, and Scoot McNairy. A Complete Unknown will hit theaters on December 25th.

Now that it’s been over a year since the release of The Dial of Destiny, have your thoughts on the film changed?

Nosferatu, PETA

PETA is planning to protest an upcoming screening of Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater. The organization plans to send a giant rodent to the screening to “set the record straight” about scenes in the film that inaccurately associate them with spreading the bubonic plague.

PETA’s Director of Animals in Film and Television Lauren Thomasson said: “A human is no more likely to be harmed or killed by a rat in real life than by a vampire, and false portrayals of these animals as harbingers of death deny viewers the chance to see them as the intelligent, social and affectionate individuals they are. The only ‘pests’ moviegoers need to be concerned with are directors who subject animals to the chaos and confusion of a film set, and PETA encourages everyone to see through these shameful stereotypes and give rats the respect they deserve.” The giant rat will carry a sign that reads, “Rats Have Rights! We Didn’t Cause the Plague!

Eggers used thousands of rats for the scene, but production designer Craig Lathrop told Variety that none of the rats were lost. “We found all of them. They were all there,” he said. “We built these plexiglass barriers so that the live rats would be in a controlled area. In the scene on the street, the horses are on one side of the plexiglass barrier, and the rats are on the other, so that the rats wouldn’t run underneath their feet and get squashed, so nobody would get hurt.

Our own Chris Bumbray was a big fan of Nosferatu, calling it the “scariest vampire movie in ages” in his review. “This is one of the most lovingly made horror films in some time, with Eggers likely having set out to create a definitive version of the tale,” Bumbray wrote. “It’s long been his passion project, and you can tell. For me, this is up there with the best films of the year, and probably the only horror film I’ve seen recently that sent a true chill up my spine. Of all the films I’ve seen this year – and there have been a lot – this one seems to have the best chance of becoming a classic.” You can check out the rest of his glowing review right here. Nosferatu will hit theaters on December 25th.

Bruce Willis, Demi Moore

Bruce Willis was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia two years ago, prompting him to step away from Hollywood. The disease isn’t a kind one, but Willis is fortunate to have the love and support of his family. Bruce Willis’ daughters paid tribute to their father over the Thanksgiving holiday, and now Demi Moore has shared an update on Willis’ condition while speaking with CNN.

Given the givens, he’s in a very stable place at the moment,” Moore said. “And I’ve shared this before, but I really mean this so sincerely. It’s so important for anybody who’s dealing with this to really meet them where they’re at, and from that place, there is such loving and joy.” However, she also said that watching someone you love struggle with the condition is “very difficult” and “not what I would wish upon anymore.

Moore continued, “There is great loss, but there is also great beauty and gifts that can come from it.

During a conversation with Drew Barrymore in September, Moore explained the advice she gives to her daughters while the family deals with Willis’ health struggles. “What I say to my kids is you meet them where they’re at,” Moore said. “You don’t hold on to who they were or what you want them to be, but who they are in this moment. And from that, there is such beauty and joy and loving and sweetness. When I’m in LA, I go over every week, and I really treasure the time that we all share.

In the last few years before his retirement, Willis performed in many direct-to-video movies, which he was criticized for at the time. However, Quentin Tarantino defended the movies, saying he was “really impressed” by Willis. “I thought he was really charming in them. He’s really fun,” Tarantino said, although he admitted it was obvious that Willis was operating with an earpiece. “You can never have a scene where he says a line, somebody else says a line, and he says a line back,” he explained. “You’re getting one line out of him at a time, so there’s always a cut. But he’s making it work. He’s not phoning in his performances.
