More than a year has gone by since we last heard anything about Opus, a mysterious horror project that’s set up at A24, and at that time, the project was assembling its cast. Now, USA Today has unveiled an image from the film that gives a glimpse of the characters played by Ayo Edebiri (The Bear) and John Malkovich (Billions), and you can check it out in this article.
The feature debut of writer/director Mark Anthony Green, Opus was being kept shrouded in secrecy, but Deadline did previously hear that the story centers on an iconic pop star’s return following his decades-long disappearance. USA Today elaborates, The horror film centers on an ambitious young writer (Ayo Edebiri) invited to the isolated compound of an iconic pop star (John Malkovich) who mysteriously disappeared and hasn’t been seen in three decades. There she discovers, surrounded by the musician’s cult of followers, the twisted machinations behind his grand return.
Edebiri and Malkovich are joined in the cast by Amber Midthunder (Prey), Stephanie Suganami (Power Book II: Ghost), Young Mazino (Beef), Tatanka Means (Killers of the Flower Moon), Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus), and Juliette Lewis (Yellowjackets).
A24 is producing and financing the film, and will be handling its global distribution. Opus is being produced by Collin Creighton and Brad Weston of Makeready, Poppy Hanks and Jelani Johnson of Macro Film Studios, and Josh Bachove. Macro’s Charles D. King serves as an executive producer with Sara Newkirk Simon and musical artists The-Dream and Nile Rodgers, who won a Grammy for their work on the Beyonce song “Cuff It”. As a follow-up to that win, The-Dream and Nile Rodgers wrote original songs for this horror movie.
Mark Anthony Green previously directed the award-winning comedy short Trapeze, U.S.A., but he’s probably better known for his work in the fashion industry. According to Deadline, he was the Special Projects Director at GQ Magazine, “making him one of the magazine’s leading fashion and culture voices.” So now that he has let the world know his fashion taste, he’s ready to show us what he can do at the helm of a horror movie.
Are you interested in Opus? Take a look at the image, then let us know by leaving a comment below. The film has a release date of March 14th.
Beware! The movie that killed Sony’s villain-focused Spider-Verse is reportedly coming home to digital platforms. According to Where to Stream,Kraven the Hunterhas January 14, 2025, in its crosshairs, and no one is safe from its wrath. You could choose not to watch it, but morbid curiosity is one hell of a drug. Imagine inviting your friends for the ultimate movie night trilogy with Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter queued up and ready to devour your souls.
Gentle ribbing aside, Kraven the Hunter’s digital release date gives Marvel fans another chance to catch the action and become mesmerized by Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s hypnotic abs. Kraven the Hunter is the action-packed, R-rated, standalone story of how one of Marvel’s most iconic villains came to be. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Kraven, a man whose complex relationship with his ruthless gangster father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe), starts him down a path of vengeance with brutal consequences, motivating him to become not only the greatest hunter in the world but also one of its most feared.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars as the title character and is joined in the cast by Ariana DeBose as voodoo priestess Calypso Ezili, Fred Hechinger as Kraven’s estranged brother and master of disguise Dmitri Smerdyakov / Chameleon, Alessandro Nivola as Russian mercenary and human-rhino hybrid Aleksei Sytsevich / Rhino, Christopher Abbott as a mercenary and assassin known as the Foreigner, and Russell Crowe as Kraven’s estranged father, the ruthless crime lord Nikolai Kravinoff.
Unfortunately for Sony, Kraven the Hunter only grossed $59M at the global box office. The movie’s failed reception has Sony taking an arrow to the knee on its expanded live-action Spider-Verse franchise, with Morbius and Madame Web bombing at the box office. Kraven‘s failure effectively killed Sony’s plans to bring other Spider-Man-related characters to theaters alongside long-gestating rumors of a Sinister Six movie. Sony even tried releasing the first 8 minutes of Kraven the Hunter to entice audiences, though it appeared only to confirm suspicions about the film’s quality.
Despite my razzing the title, I plan to watch Kraven the Hunter when it arrives on digital platforms. Straight up, Sony’s “bad” Spider-Man-less Spider-Man movies always leave an impression, and I enjoy comic book-related cinema in all its forms. Will you watch Kraven the Hunter when it comes to digital platforms? Let us know in the comments section below.
It was just last month that Alec Baldwin teased that he had a few things up his sleeve when it came to how he would handle the aftermath of his involuntary manslaughter charges being dismissed over the accidental shooting death of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Now, it looks like Alec Baldwin is making good on that, launching a lawsuit potentially putting himself in even better position to clear his name.
This week, Alec Baldwin filed a civil rights violations lawsuit against prosecutors who came after him. It reads, in part (via Deadline): “Defendants sought at every turn to scapegoat Baldwin for the acts and omissions of others, regardless of the evidence or the law. Although no verdict in this civil case can undo the trauma the State’s threat of conviction and incarceration has inflicted, Alec Baldwin has filed this action to hold Defendants responsible for their appalling violations of the laws that governed their work…Because Defendants’ actions were motivated by evil motive or intent and involved a reckless or callous indifference to Baldwin’s federally protected rights, an award of punitive damages is appropriate to the fullest extent permitted by law…Defendants’ misconduct in their pursuit of Baldwin, and the trial judge’s condemnation of them, has already drawn world-wide attention. But this action is necessary to vindicate Baldwin’s rights and deter Defendants from attempting to do this to anyone else.”
This lawsuit shows that Alec Baldwin wasn’t messing around and won’t just take the persecution as is. Not only were the involuntary manslaughter charges against Baldwin dropped back in April 2024, but just ahead of the holiday season, all appeals were withdrawn. That cleared Alec Baldwin of any wrongdoing on that large of a scale. But for the actor, he’s out to make a point that you can’t just go around labeling people as guilty, especially when it comes to the death of another human. Some might think Baldwin is just continuing to stir up press or that the “scapegoat” angle stinks of ego, but he has every right to pursue action on his own part. As for how he’ll come out of this one, only time will tell but this will undoubtedly be an interesting one to keep an eye on.
Do you agree with Alec Baldwin’s pursuit against prosecutors? Give us your take and your prediction of the outcome in the comments section below.
Remember when Activision was publishing other games besides Call of Duty? Recall how, for a brief period of time, some of those other Activision games included Transformers: War for Cybertron and its sequel, Fall of Cybertron? I do, and it’s shame that in 2025 these cool sci-fi shooters aren’t easy to play anymore.

At the end of September, JoBlo Media and Octane Multimedia teamed up to launch a new YouTube channel named JoBlo TV, which hosts multiple feature films to watch for free throughout the week. The genres we’ll be focusing on at JoBlo TV are Action, Horror, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Thrillers – and the free movies we shared this week were all about the horror!
This week’s line-up consisted of Dead Voices, The Thing Inside Us, and Demons Inside Me. Here’s some information on each of them:
Directed by genre regular William Butler (who, as an actor, faced off with Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, with Leatherface in Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, Romero zombies in Night of the Living Dead ’90, the ghoulies in Ghoulies II… the list goes on…) Dead Voices shows what happens when two sisters discover a dark secret while making a documentary about mediums for a college final. Jacob Kyle Young wrote the screenplay and stars in the film alongside Angelica Briones, Lauren Albo, Jack Buckley, Naama Silver, and Cody Anderson.
Written and directed by Paul Catalanotto, The Thing Inside Us has the following synopsis: Daniel and Shelly have lost everything to the LV pandemic that has currently engulfed the world. Most show no symptoms to the disease, but Daniel barely survived the infection. Shelly seems fine except for a strange case of sleepwalking. The doctors can’t help her, so Daniel decides to document his wife’s illness for evidence. What he finds could not only destroy his relationship, but the world itself. Chad Graham, Christine Tonry, Escalante Lundy, Taylor Elizabeth Bennett, Ruben Juarbe, Dustin Reno, and Jim Winter star.
Demons Inside Me (which is also known as Jade’s Asylum) was written and directed by Alexandre Carrière. Here’s the synopsis: In the heart of the Costa Rican jungle, a group of hedonistic playboys descend for a debauched getaway of drugs, parties, and easy conquests. But when their callous disregard for a vulnerable woman unleashes a torrent of her repressed rage, the idyllic vacation descends into a bloodbath. As Jade spirals into a psychotic breakdown, ancient evil stirs beneath the surface. Demonic creatures, grotesque and fungal, erupt from the jungle depths, claiming the lives of the oblivious revelers one by one. Now, trapped in a nightmare of their own making, they must fight for survival against the forces of nature and the terrifying consequences of their own cruelty. Morgan Kohan, Roc Lafortune, Sebastian Pigott, Drew Nelson, Gregory Wilson, Tomas Chovanec, Jeff Teravainen, Kjartan Hewitt, Deanna Jarvis, Mauricio Morales, Diana Marcela Aguilar Chavez, Martin Moses, and Holden Sears Schoepflin star.

January releases are here. Normally, the month is a dumping ground for films that studios have little faith in to become moneymakers. However, that is not to say that enjoyable films can’t come out in January. Den of Thieves 2: Pantera was enjoyed by our Chris Bumbray in his review despite not being a big fan of the first film. Other critics have been giving the action heist sequel a lukewarm reception as the movie currently sports a fresh 67% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Deadline now reports that the Thursday previews for the Gerard Butler/O’shea Jackson Jr. film has taken in $1.35 million in early Thursday previews. Showtimes started yesterday at 6 pm and the appeal of the sequel doesn’t cast a notably wide net as an R-rated heist film. Additionally, Los Angeles, which is the largest market in the country, will affect the numbers as the city is currently in a state of emergency. Other places in the U.S. are also being hit with winter weather that discourages people from leaving home. The movie is projected to hit $11 million-$13 million at 3,008 theaters.
In his review, our EIC had a blast with the movie as he says, “I enjoyed Den of Thieves 2: Pantera much more than I thought I would. With the sunny European locales and international flavor, it’s the perfect mid-level January release and should prove popular enough among Butler’s fans that I wouldn’t be surprised if we eventually get a third movie in the series. It’s surprisingly fun!”
And recently, the film’s star, Butler, revealed that he was coming off of surgery when filming the movie. “This was a weird time for me at the beginning of this movie because I’d been through a pretty intense surgery, and then I tore my ACL fully about a month later and then started this movie,” Butler said. “So I was not in the best shape, and it was a pretty physical movie, and I didn’t have a chance to get the surgery on my ACL, so I made this movie with a freshly torn ACL, and it was pretty rough.“
Butler continued, “But yeah… I wanted to put a ‘but’ in to make it sound positive, but it wasn’t positive; it was a nightmare! And I was a whiny little bitch!“
