Blizzard has announced that two decades after its release, World of Warcraft is finally going to let players build a home and live in it. The feature has long been requested by WoW players and now it’s finally coming in the game’s next expansion.
Before Sonic the Hedgehog 3 races into theaters this holiday season, new details about the sound barrier-breaking threequel are racing in. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Sonic 3 director Jeff Fowler and voice actor Ben Schwartz talked about the film’s latest character, Shadow (voiced by Keanu Reeves), and Jim Carrey playing two versions of the mustachioed villain Robotnik.
Fowler expands Shadow the Hedgehog’s origin in the upcoming film, giving longtime fans something to look forward to. Prof. Gerald Robotnik genetically engineered shadow, creating a speedster with teleportation powers. In addition to his blink-and-you-missed-it moves, Shadow uses gadgets to stalk his prey, like a motorcycle and handguns. Reeves is the perfect choice to help bring Shadow to life on the silver screen, and the film’s December 20 release date can’t come soon enough.
“‘Edginess’ is maybe not the right word, but there was a new element tonally that just suddenly made the Sonic world feel a little bit more exciting, a little bit more dangerous,” Fowler told Entertainment Weekly about adding Shadow to the mix. “I think that’s exactly what Shadow has done for this film.”
While effects and character design were a concern for the first movie, Sonic voice actor Ben Schwartz assures fans that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will go above and beyond to pull out all the stops. “The CG is even more impressive. Everything is pumped up for this one,” Schwartz says in a separate conversation. “[Producer] Toby [Ascher] talks about us having a lot of Avengers moments, which I love, but it’s very much that everything is bigger in this movie and more impressive.” The movie’s “go big or go home” attitude teases excellent things for the sequel, and they’ll need all the juice they can get. Sonic the Hedgehog fans are rabid, y’all. If Paramount doesn’t bring its A-game, Sonic enthusiasts will know and will not be afraid to take their ire online. “Paramount taking the money and the time to adjust it a bit, it shows that we care, we’re listening,” Schwartz adds. “We are fans. We feel connected to the fans.”
One thing that Fowler and his team must tread lightly about is Shadow’s use of handguns. We live in sensitive times, and a gun-toting hedgehog could set parents on edge. Fowler is aware of this and is taking steps to remain faithful to the character while not pushing any buttons for families. “We certainly are very respectful about what fans expect to see and what they love about the character. We’re also very aware of the times and the right way to handle that kind of imagery in a family film,” said Fowler. “I think we really ended in a great place. I think fans will watch this film and really appreciate Shadow and Maria. A lot of care and a lot of love has gone into telling Shadow’s story and giving fans the best movie version of the character imaginable.”
After saying he’s retiring from acting, Jim Carrey pulls double-duty in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 as Dr. Ivo Robotnik and Prof. Gerald Robotnik. In the beginning, Fowler wanted to draw parallel lines between the two villains, focusing “not just with bald heads and giant mustaches, but also in their behavior and their attitude,” Fowler says. “But then, just from a storytelling standpoint, it needed to go in some ways to create the right sort of conflict for the film. I don’t want to give anything away, but it was really fun to plot that, to come up with all those interactions and all the different story needs that had to happen. Jim was just such a great partner in designing all of that.”

Two and a half years ago, we heard that genre icon Tony Todd signed on to play an “iconic new villain” in the horror mystery / genre-bending thriller Werewolf Game. Sadly, Todd passed away last week at the age of 69, following a long illness… but we still haven’t had the chance to see Werewolf Game. The Horror Collective will be giving the film a digital release on January 21st, and a trailer has been unveiled. You can check it out in the embed above.
Directed by Jackie Payne and Cara Brennan from a screenplay written by Payne, Werewolf Game was inspired by the party game of social deduction invented by Dimitry Davidoff in 1986. In the film, twelve strangers are kidnapped by a social media company and forced to play a game where they vote on who amongst them to murder. According to The Horror Collective, the film will give fans “a chance to experience one of Tony Todd’s last performances in a story that celebrates his dedication to bringing unforgettable characters to life.”
Todd was joined in the cast by Lydia Hearst (Z Nation), Bai Ling (The Crow), Teala Dunn (Are We There Yet?), Tabitha Jane (Why?), Tim Realbuto (Bobcat Moretti), and Robert Picardo (The Howling).
The film is coming to us from Different Duck Films founder Rob Margolies, who produced it with Gretel Snyder. Margolies discovered the screenplay, and the project won the top prize at his annual First Frame International Film Festival: a production deal. Sunstrike Pictures is also behind this one, and they provided the following statement: “We have a huge influence of John Carpenter and horror manga, to create a uniquely visceral film that is as haunting as it is beautiful. Werewolf Game is a thrilling, disturbing, who-dun-it mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time.“
When the project was first announced, we heard that Werewolf Game would be “drawing on the raw intensity of anime and the chilling atmosphere of retro horror,” and would be “crafted to be PG-13 to enrapture teen and adult audiences alike.” Todd said, “My roots as an actor are grounded in theater, which is why my iconic character in Werewolf Game strongly appeals to me, much like Immortal (2020), my first collaboration with Margolies.“

20th Century Studios is kicking off this chilly Wednesday afternoon with some heat from Rami Malek‘s latest film, The Amateur. The studio debuted a new action-packed trailer and poster for The Amateur, an espionage thriller in which Malek’s character uses his unique set of skills to find the people who killed his wife. He has no experience in the field, but that won’t stop him from launching a manhunt that defies expectations.
James Hawes (Raised by Wolves, Penny Dreadful, Slow Horses) directs The Amateur from a screenplay by Ken Nolan and Gary Spinelli based on the novel by Robert Littell (Vicious Circle, The Revolutionist, Walking Back the Cat). The film opens in theaters on April 11, 2025.

“Charlie Heller (Malek) is a brilliant, but deeply introverted decoder for the CIA working out of a basement office at headquarters in Langley whose life is turned upside down when his wife is killed in a London terrorist attack. When his supervisors refuse to take action, he takes matters into his own hands, embarking on a dangerous trek across the globe to track down those responsible, his intelligence serving as the ultimate weapon for eluding his pursuers and achieving his revenge.”
Rami Malek (Mr. Robot, Bohemian Rhapsody, No Time to Die) leads the cast alongside Rachel Brosnahan, Caitríona Balfe, Jon Bernthal, Michael Stuhlbarg, Holt McCallany, Julianne Nicholson, Adrian Martinez, Danny Sapani, and Laurence Fishburne.
In The Amateur trailer, Malek’s Charles Heller discovers devastating news when he learns a group of criminals killed his wife in a vicious attack. The agency he works for offers their sympathies but, in the end, considers her collateral damage in a much larger plot. Unable to do anything, Heller demands training and a bankroll to hunt the killers down and bring them to justice. He’s inexperienced, so no one at the agency has faith in his abilities. As it turns out, they’re dead wrong. Heller is more competent than anyone gives him credit for, and when hatred fuels a wounded heart, you’ll do just about anything to get revenge.
Let’s f**king go! The Amateur might have a by-the-numbers plot, but Malek is a fantastic talent, and the movie looks slick as hell. I’m excited to check this one out. How about you? Let us know in the comments section below.
