Felix Mallard

Ginny & Georgia star Antonia Gentry was recently seen in the time travel slasher Time Cut, and earlier today we heard that Gentry’s co-star Nikki Roumel stars in the upcoming time travel supernatural thriller You Don’t Belong Here. Now, Deadline has revealed that another Ginny & Georgia cast member has just signed on to star in a genre film… although this one doesn’t involve time travel. Titled Nest, this film is about deadly arachnids, and the Ginny & Georgia cast member who is set to star in it is Felix Mallard.

The feature directorial debut of writer/director Guy Edmonds, who previously co-created and directed the Australian series Spooky Files and ABC’s Hardball, Nest will see Mallard taking on the role of Remy, a new father daunted by the prospect of parenthood and outfitting the family’s new home. With his high-flying wife Grace often away from the house, Remy must care for baby Zoe, while juggling his own career aspirations and the job of turning their new house into a home. But this house is already occupied… Edmonds was inspired to make the film while he was “facing up to the daunting task of becoming a parent.”

Deadline notes that “the film’s antagonist, and matriarch of the ‘nest’, is a giant female spider which, with a mixture of puppetry enhanced by VFX, will be brought to life by effects artist Russell Sharp and his team at Sharp FX, together with creature visual effects house Alt.FX.” Architect is representing worldwide sales on the project at this week’s American Film Market in Las Vegas. Filming is expected to take place in Australia during the second quarter of 2025.

Developed with the support of Screen Australia, Nest is being produced by Melissa Kelly and by Bethany Jones for Mushroom Studios, who also developed the script with Edmonds alongside script consultant Daina Reid. Joe Weatherstone serves as executive producer.

Edmonds provided the following statement: “Nest is every parent’s worst nightmare. It’s a home invasion film from within, which becomes a fight to defend their child as the house is infested by another family: of spiders!” Jones added, “Guy has written a skin-crawling creature feature with a beating heart – focused on a couple you’ll fall in love with and want to see thrive as they’re threatened by a nightmarish intruder.

You Don't Belong Here

In the last thirteen months, we’ve seen two different time travel slashers, Totally Killer and Time Cut, get streaming service releases. Now, Deadline reports that Alliance Media Partners is representing the world sales rights for a time travel supernatural thriller called You Don’t Belong Here at the American Film Market, which is currently going on in Las Vegas. Totally Killer starred Kiernan Shipka from the Netflix series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Time Cut starred Madison Bailey from the Netflix series Outer Banks and Antonia Gentry from the Netflix series Ginny & Georgia, so it seems fitting that the lead role in You Don’t Belong Here went to another Netflix star – Nikki Roumel, who co-stars with Gentry on Ginny & Georgia.

The feature directorial debut of Chris McGowan, You Don’t Belong Here follows a group of amateur crime solvers as they take a trip to an infamous campsite to investigate an unsolved murder. When the group wakes up the next morning, they find themselves in 1991, days before the murder took place, with a mysterious killer on the loose. The film received a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement so it could film in Illinois during the strikes last year.

Roumel is joined in the cast by Shane West (A Walk to Remember), Cameron Cowperthwaite (Fallout), Chibuikem Uche (One of Us Is Lying), Destiny Hernandez (Chicago Med), Ilirida Memedovski (Perpetrator), Major Curda (Riverdale), and Samuel Roukin (TURN).

You Don’t Belong Here is coming our way from Perth Road Productions, Rock River Studios, and Sterling Silver Pictures. The film was produced by Sterling Beaumon of Sterling Silver Pictures, along with Seth Savoy, Mike D. Ware, Yajaira Marie, and Patrick Ryan Richter.

Beaumon provided the following statement: “We set out to make a film that is fun, exciting & entertaining for the whole family. We were so fortunate to bring together this incredible cast and crew to create a film when the whole industry was shut down. Currently I feel there is a void of quality content that both parents and children can enjoy together. Our goal is to win all generations over with this story that touches on the theme of generational curses.

Alliance Media Partners’ Head of Sales, Acquisitions and Distribution Anthony Buckner added: “You Don’t Belong Here combines classic thriller elements with a fresh time travel twist, suspenseful from the first scene – we’re very excited to be selling it.

Twisted Metal

When the TV series based on the popular video game franchise Twisted Metal made its premiere on the Peacock streaming service back in July, it quickly became one of Peacock’s top five original series, racking up 400 million viewing minutes in its first weekend and earning the honor of being the streamer’s “most-binged” premiere. Now season 2 is speeding ahead… and Michael Jonathan Smith has taken to social media to confirm that filming on the new season has wrapped! Smith also said that Twisted Metal season 2 is “even bigger than the first one.”

Based on an original take by Deadpool and Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, this adaptation of the Twisted Metal franchise centers on a motor-mouthed outsider who is offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.

Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) stars in the series as John Doe, “a smart-ass milkman who talks as fast as he drives. With no memory of his past, John gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make his wish of finding community come true, but only if he can survive an onslaught of savage vehicular combat.” Neve Campbell (Scream) plays a character named Raven, Thomas Haden Church (Wings) is Agent Stone, “a cold and unyielding post-apocalyptic highway patrolman who rules the roads with a silver tongue and a twisted iron fist, prosecuting even the smallest crimes with the harshest of judgements. Agent Stone will stop at nothing to bring law and order back to the Divided States of America, and will kill anyone in his path who defies his power”; and Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) is Quiet, “a ferocious, badass car thief who acts purely on instinct – you couldn’t stop her any more than a manhole could stop a volcano. Coming from a community that oppressed her into silence, Quiet’s wish is to find her place in this dark, chaotic world. But when she becomes clouded by her need for revenge, Quiet forms an unlikely, antagonistic bond with John Doe”.

Also in the cast are Mike Mitchell (The Tomorrow War) and Tahj Vaughans (P-Valley) as buddies Stu and Mike, “the Rosencrantz & Guildenstern of this world, and together often find themselves to be more followers than fighters”; Lou Beatty Jr. (A Million Little Things) as Tommy, “a grizzled and weathered cartographer who knows the dangers of the Wild Midwest”; and Richard Cabral (Mayans M.C.) as Quiet’s overprotective brother Loud. AEW wrestler Joe Seanoa, a.k.a Samoa Joe, plays iconic video game character Sweet Tooth, with Will Arnett (Arrested Development) providing the character’s voice.

In addition to the actors mentioned in the first paragraph, another new addition to the cast for Twisted Metal season 2 is Anthony Carrigan of the HBO series Barry, who will be playing the video game character Calypso. Calypso is “the mysterious, charismatic host and creator of a dangerous demolition derby tournament, who invites all assassins, vigilantes, mercenaries and joyriders to participate. To the winner, he offers the prize of making their greatest wish come true, but with Calypso there’s always a twist.

As mentioned, Michael Jonathan Smith (who also happens to be a writer on Cobra Kai) is the Twisted Metal showrunner. Mackie, Smith, Arnett, Reese, and Wernick executive produce the Twisted Metal series alongside director Kitao Sakurai and Marc Forman of Electric Avenue, Jason Spire of Inspire Entertainment, Peter Principato of Artists First, Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan from PlayStation Productions, and Hermen Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios. The series is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television, Playstation Productions, and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

A couple of months ago, Lionsgate released a new version of The Crow onto the big screen, and while we know what JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray thinks of the movie – you can read his review of the film at THIS LINK and see how he thinks it compares to other Crow movies HERE – we haven’t heard how Arrow in the Head founder John “The Arrow” Fallon and Lance Vlcek feel about this new Crow. With the new episode of their new show Lance and Arrow at the Movies, Lance and The Arrow share their thoughts on the film. Is The Crow 2024 actually good, or is it the horrible mess most people seemed to think it was going to be? To find out, check out the video embedded above!

Here’s what Lance and Arrow at the Movies is all about: Join hosts The Arrow and Lance as they engage in colorful debates about old and recent genre films. With a vibe that’s both groovy and a little rough around the edges, we’re here to talk shop with a whole lot of passion.

There was a time when we would refer to the new Crow project as a remake, but Lionsgate let it be known that this is not to be called a remake, but rather a new adaptation of the source material, the comic book series created by James O’Barr. Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) directed this version of The Crow, working from a screenplay by Oscar nominee Zach Baylin (King Richard). The film is produced by Victor Hadida, Molly Hassell, John Jencks, and Edward R. Pressman. Dan Farah serves as executive producer. Here’s the synopsis: Soulmates Eric (Bill Skarsgard) and Shelly (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.

Bill Skarsgard (Boy Kills World) and singer FKA Twigs are joined in the cast by Danny Huston (Yellowstone), who plays the lead villain, as well as David Bowles (Brothers), Isabella Wei (1899), Laura Birn (A Walk Among the Tombstones), Sami Bouajila (The Bouncer), and Jordan Bolger (Peaky Blinders).

Based on the comic book series created by James O’Barr, the first version of The Crow was released in 1994. Following the production of three sequels (each about a different resurrected character), a redux was first announced in late 2008… then it had to make a long journey through development hell. Several screenwriters came and went, scripts were written and scrapped, studios went bankrupt, and directors like Stephen Norrington, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, Corin Hardy, and Francisco Javier Gutiérrez were all involved along the way. Actors up for the lead role during the long development period included Bradley Cooper, Mark Wahlberg, Tom Hiddleston, Luke Evans, Jason Momoa, and Jack Huston.

The Farrelly brothers reunite with Jack Black after their 2001 film Shallow Hal in this new Christmas comedy that makes use of the popular joke misspelling of Santa. Paramount has just released the trailer for Dear Santa. The holiday film stars Jack Black, Robert Timothy Smith, Keegan-Michael Key, Brianne Howey, Hayes MacArthur, Post Malone, P.J. Byrne, Jaden Carson Baker and Kai Cech. While both the Farrellys are involved, only Bobby Farrelly directs the movie while Peter Farrelly writes the screenplay with Ricky Blitt.

The holly jolly comedy centers on Liam Turner (Robert Timothy Smith), a young boy who still believes in Santa Claus. Liam isn’t the best speller, and while writing his yearly note to Santa, he misspells the rotund elf’s name, addressing his wishes to Satan instead. Touched by the boy’s outreach, Satan (Jack Black) visits Liam, bringing the gift of devilish tricks, demonic shenanigans, and laughs to the spirited season.

The script was written from a story by Ricky Blitt & Peter Farrelly and Dan Ewen. The movie is produced by Peter Farrelly, Bobby Farrelly and Jeremy Kramer. The executive producers on board include Kevin Barnett, Pete Jones and Gretel Twombly.

Bobby Farrelly says Jack Black was the first choice to play Satan/Santa. “Jack is just that guy that with his arching eyebrows and his faces and all that, there’s a little bit of mischievous to him at all times, but he’s eminently likable, and that’s just Jack,” Bobby explained. “We never wanted to make it a horror movie or something like that. We wanted it to be comical. So it was a delicate ball of playing this iconic character but doing it in a way that the audience can have some fun with it. And Jack was the perfect guy.”

He also explained, “It is a family story because it is Christmas. But you know what? Pete and I, we’re the Farrelly brothers, so we wanted to put our skewed version on a Christmas story like this, but at the same time, we don’t want to just blow it up. We wanted it to have a sweetness to it underneath all the edge and all that. So that’s the Farrelly Brothers Christmas movie.”

Dear Santa hits Paramount+ and Digital on November 25.
