Netflix recently announced that Squid Game season 2 is set to premiere on the streaming service on December 26th – and soon after, they unveiled a teaser trailer that lived up to the “tease” part of its name, as it didn’t have a whole lot to show. Now a “special teaser” has arrived online, complete with actual footage from the show, and you can check it out in the embed above.

Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk is the director, writer, and producer of the show. Squid Game season 2 has the following synopsis: Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 remains determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their vicious sport. Using this fortune to fund his search, Gi-hun starts with the most obvious of places: look for the man in a sharp suit playing ddakji in the subway. But when his efforts finally yield results, the path toward taking down the organization proves to be deadlier than he imagined: to end the game, he needs to re-enter it.

Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo are reprising their roles from the first season. New cast members include Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an.

Hwang Dong-hyuk recently let it be known that Squid Game will be wrapping up with season 3, so we have more episodes to look forward to beyond season 2. In addition to the next two seasons of Squid Game, Netflix is also moving forward with a second season of Squid Game: The Challenge, a reality series in which 456 players compete for a US$4.56 million cash prize by competing in challenges based on those in the series… although without all the death. There have also been rumors that David Fincher is still working on an English-language version of the series.

Are you a fan of the first season of Squid Game, and are you looking forward to season 2? Check out the trailer, then let us know by leaving a comment below.

Colin Farrell, The Penguin, penis

Colin Farrell is damn near unrecognizable as the Penguin thanks to the incredible prosthetics and bodysuit created by artist Mike Marino, which apparently included a penguin penis. Pardon?

While speaking with People, Farrell explained that one scene in the series called for his character to appear naked. “Marino is so twisted and brilliant. He was like, ‘I made you a penguin penis,’” Farrell said. “I said, ‘Really? They’re not even going to see it. I don’t know if I want to walk on set with a penguin penis.’ And he was like, ‘No, no, no, dude. It’s detachable, it’s Velcro. It’s got a beak at the end of it.’ So I had a penguin penis.

Farrell went on to credit Marino for making the whole thing work. “If it wasn’t for Mike’s design, I’m telling you now, if it was just me with a f—ing cigarette and a top hat and a bit of a limp and an umbrella that was a machine gun, we wouldn’t have had the HBO show.” The complete transformation covers just about every part of Farrell’s body. “Only things that were me were my hands and feet,” he said. “Everything else, including ears, were pieces. Everything was covered.

Taking place after the events of The Batman, The Penguin will find Oz Cobb taking advantage of the power vacuum created by the death of Carmine Falcone. In addition to Farrell, the series stars Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone, daughter of the late Carmine, Rhenzy Feliz as Victor Aguilar, Oz’s driver, Michael Kelly as Johnny Vity, Falcone family underboss, and Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni, a rival gangster. Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, James Madio, Scott Cohen, Michael Zegen, Carmen Ejogo, and Theo Rossi also star in the series.

The Penguin was originally developed by Max, but it has since moved to HBO alongside several other shows that were initially announced for Max. The series will debut on HBO on September 19th. Our own Alex Maidy called the series a “masterpiece that will be the defining performance of Colin Farrell’s career.” You can check out his review right here. As for The Batman Part II, we’ve got quite a wait in store as the film has been delayed by an entire year and will now hit theaters on October 2, 2026.

XYZ Films has dropped a new trailer for Krazy House, the action-horror comedy which our own Chris Bumbray absolutely hated when it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.

Part ’90s sitcom, part blood-soaked, gross-out mayhem, the Krazy House trailer proudly features its offensive subject matter as a badge of pride. The films stars Nick Frost as Bernie, a religious homemaker who discovers that the Russian workers in his house are, in fact, criminals searching for loot. In order to save his wife and the rest of his studio audience-approved sitcom family, Bernie has to man up and unleash his inner beast. The film was written and directed by Steffen Haars & Flip van der Kuil and stars Nick Frost, Alicia Silverstone, Kevin Connolly, Gaite Jansen, and Walt Klink.

Krazy House feels like it’s targeting a very niche audience who might appreciate its shock humour, but that didn’t include Bumbray. “Everything about this film is a disaster right from the start. The pseudo-sitcom gimmick is unfunny and was done much better in the classic viral video Too Many Cooks,” Bumbray wrote in his review. “Frost is doing his best, but the material gives him nothing to work with, as the sitcom gimmick goes on for about forty minutes, while he spends at least another 20 minutes of the movie strung up on a cross (don’t ask) mugging with reaction shots to the chaos around him. Frost drops the accent and re-emerges as a more crazed, badass version of his character (which he seems much more comfortable playing) in the last ten minutes, but by then, the film has devolved into a hopeless satire with nary a laugh in sight.

Bumbray continued: “It’s incredible how many talented people are wasted on this, with Alicia Silverstone deserving far better than Frost’s always-shrieking wife. She and Frost have never been this grating on screen. The movie is going for a bonkers, transgressive vibe, with Entourage star Kevin Connelly turning up late in the game as Jesus Christ himself (he’s actually not bad), with a scene where a man gets violated with a Jesus figurine included. But it’s all just crass exploitation without any substance. Indeed, there’s a place for crass exploitation, but it needs to be backed up by entertainment value. Krazy House is so abysmal that it almost became an endurance test. Frankly, the press screening I saw inspired many walkouts.” You can check out the rest of Bumbray’s review right here.

Krazy House will be released on VOD on October 4th.

Terminator franchise, James Cameron, Arnold Scwharzenegger

The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day continue to stand the test of time as some of the finest sci-fi action movies ever made. However, the subsequent sequels always felt like they were trying (and failing) to recapture that lightning in a bottle. James Cameron revealed last year that he’s been working on his own secret Terminator project, and while speaking with Empire for the 40th anniversary of the original movie, he dropped a big hint at what it could look like. TL;DR: Don’t expect to see any familiar characters or iconography.

This is the moment when you jettison everything that is specific to the last 40 years of Terminator, but you live by those principles,” Cameron said, explaining that the franchise needs to move past its iconic characters. “You get too inside it, and then you lose a new audience because the new audience care much less about that stuff than you think they do. That’s the danger, obviously, with Avatar as well, but I think we’ve proven that we have something for new audiences.

This means no T-800, no Sarah Connor, and no John Connor. Stripping away these elements would take the franchise back to its bones: humans vs machines, and that’s just what Cameron wants. “You’ve got powerless main characters, essentially, fighting for their lives, who get no support from existing power structures, and have to circumvent them but somehow maintain a moral compass. And then you throw AI into the mix,” Cameron teased. “Those principles are sound principles for storytelling today, right? So I have no doubt that subsequent Terminator films will not only be possible, but they’ll kick ass. But this is the moment where you jettison all the specific iconography.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has already said that he’s done with the franchise, and I can’t say I blame him. The last three installments (Terminator: Salvation, Terminator: Genisys, and Terminator: Dark Fate) were each meant to kick-start a new trilogy, but they all underperformed. Taking things back to basics, without any of the baggage of the previous movies, might be the best way to go.

In the Lost Lands, Milla Jovovich, Dave Bautista, Paul W.S. Anderson

Deadline reports that Vertical has snagged the rights to In the Lost Lands, a fantasy flick from Constantin Film directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and starring Milla Jovovich and Dave Bautista.

The film is based on a short story by George R.R. Martin and centers on a “Queen who, desperate to fulfill her love, makes a daring play: she sends the powerful and feared sorceress Gray Alys (Jovovich) to the ghostly wilderness of the Lost Lands in search of a magical power, where the sorceress and her guide, the drifter Boyce (Bautista), must outwit and outfight man and demon…” Constantin Werner wrote the script from a story written by Anderson, who also produces alongside Jovovich, Bautista, Werner, Jonathan Meisner, Jeremy Bolt, and Robert Kulzer.

With In the Lost Lands, we’ve created a movie with a completely unique visual style and storytelling that uses cutting-edge technology to bring the story to life like never before,” Anderson said in a statement. “So, it was always important to me that it be seen on the big screen. That’s why I couldn’t be more thrilled that Vertical is bringing In the Lost Lands to American theaters.

Vertical Partner Peter Jarowey added, “We’re thrilled to be in business with Constantin Film for the In The Lost Lands U.S. release next year. The film is a testament to how Paul and Milla’s continued partnership yields compelling cinematic experiences. Dave’s charm and humor is larger-than-life, and the cast’s chemistry radiates off the screen.

Jovovich has a few other projects on her slate, including Midnight, an action movie starring Alexandra Shipp as a young, blind woman who is hunted by a collective of international criminals led by Jovovich’s character. Rosario Dawson also stars and produces the project. Jovovich is also starring alongside Luke Evans in World Breaker, a new sci-fi movie from director Brad Anderson. “Five years ago, a tear in the fabric of reality brought creatures to our world from an alternate dimension bent on our destruction,” reads the description. “A father hides his daughter on an island to keep her safe while he prepares her for survival and the battles to come. But when the world is about to break, no place is safe.

In the Lost Lands will be released exclusively in theaters early next year.

Eric Roberts, Martin Scorsese

After publishing a page-turning memoir – Runaway Train: The Story of My Life So Far – actor Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight, The Expendables, Runaway Train) is letting skeletons out of closets with stories and reveals related to his lengthy and storied career. Roberts’ book covers a lot of ground. Still, one story about a missed opportunity with Martin Scorsese is making the rounds online. Luckily, our Editor-in-Chief, Chris Bumbray, is quite the bookworm for reading about Hollywood’s inner workings and secret stories and is currently thumbing through Roberts’ memoir.

In the book, Roberts talks about rejecting a primary role in Scorsese’s 1988 drama The Last Temptation of Christ, in which the filmmaker offered him the role of Jesus.

“So when I was asked by Marty Scorsese to audition for the role of Jesus in The Last Temptations of Christ, I thought, Here’s my chance to break out of the straightjacket of typecasting and work with a master,” Roberts recalls about the opportunity. We had about five auditions and the coolest screen test I’ve ever had with Harvey Keitel. Harvey’s an especially good actor for other actors to audition or work with. Scorsese offered me the part but, Reader, on the advice of my manager, I turned it down.”

Why? Treusch said to me, “I gotta tell you, nobody gets away with playing Jesus.”

It’s hard to believe now, but that comment made sense to me at the time. Treusch pointed out that Max von Sydow didn’t get away with it (though he continued to have a distinguished if somewhat smaller, career). Jeffrey Hunter didn’t get away with it. Treusch explained that playing Jesus was a kind of curse. I don’t know if he was onto something or not, but my turning down the part destroyed the relationship I might have had with Scorsese. Last Temptation was his baby from the time he was a film student! He thought he’d found his Jesus in me, so when I turned it down, he got pissed off, and I don’t blame him,” Roberts laments in his novel.

“Why’d you fucking audition?” he asked.

I said, “I wanted to come to your attention.”

“You came to my attention,” Scorsese replied.

Roberts says he could have worked with Scorsese on other projects had he played Jesus when offered the part. He knows he f**ked up by passing on the opportunity. “The movies we could have made together!” Roberts groans in his book. “I think he holds a grudge against me to this day.”

Roberts opines about grudges as the story continues, saying people in Hollywood take filmmaking personally. Filmmakers often dream of making the perfect film with the perfect cast, and if you throw a wrench into the works by being difficult, you could sour the experience in ways you can’t understand at the time.

“But I’ve discovered that in the movie business, you can’t hold too many grudges. It’s a business where your livelihood really does depend upon the kindness of strangers. Grudges, like a Louis Vuitton trunk, is one luxury I can’t afford.”

Was it wise for Eric Roberts to listen to his manager regarding the role of Jesus in Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ? If he could go back in time and change his decision, would he? Have you ever made a choice that could have radically changed your life? I’ve got a few, but life is what you make it, and Roberts is doing just fine with a whopping 90 upcoming credits on his IMDB page. That’s not too shabby for a guy who passed on playing Jesus Christ, right?

Frankenstein's Monster

Director Guillermo del Toro has been spending this year working on one of his dream projects, an adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic tale Frankenstein that is set up at the Netflix streaming service. Frankenstein is believed to have started filming on February 12th – and even though the production was only expected to last about five months, wrapping up on July 5th, somehow it’s still going! We had heard that filming would take place in Ontario, Canada, and possibly in London, England, but cameras are currently rolling in Edinburgh, Scotland, parts of which have been made to look like Victorian England. Images of that transformation, as well as Oscar Isaac in character can be seen here:

Del Toro’s Frankenstein, which is a long-awaited passion project for the filmmaker, might have the following logline: Set in Eastern Europe in the 19th Century, the story of Dr. Pretorius, who needs to track down Frankenstein’s monster- who is believed to have died in a fire forty years before–in order to continue the experiments of Dr. Frankenstein.

Isaac’s co-stars include Mia Goth (Pearl), Jacob Elordi (Saltburn), Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds), and Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), with Ralph Ineson (The Witch) showing up for a pivotal cameo. At one point, Andrew Garfield was in the cast, but he had to drop out and was replaced by Elordi… and it has been said that the role Garfield had passed over to Elordi was the Monster.

Del Toro has been talking about making a new version of Frankenstein for more than a decade. Years ago, he had the project set up at Universal, with Doug Jones (The Shape of Water) on board to play Frankenstein’s Monster. The movie got far enough into pre-production that Jones even saw a bust of the Monster that was inspired by Bernie Wrightson’s artwork in an illustrated adaptation of Shelley’s novel that Wrightson spent seven years working on. But then the project fell apart. Now it’s finally happening at the Netflix streaming service, which previously teamed with del Toro on Pinocchio and the anthology series Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities.

Are you looking forward to Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein? What do you think of the images of Oscar Isaac on set? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Mel Gibson is getting ready to embark on one of the most ambitious projects of his career after being spotted in Europe while scouting locations for a sequel to 2004’s biblical epic The Passion of the Christ. According to Puglia Film Commission director Antonio Parente, Gibson toured Malta with a production team before heading to the Southern Italian region of Puglia, where he noted the ancient towns of Ginosa, Gravina Laterza, and Altamura.

Gibson’s publicist, Alan Nierob, wants to set expectations by reminding everyone that The Passion of the Christ sequel is in its earliest stages of development. “All we can confirm is they were scouting locations recently,” Nierob told Variety, adding there’s “not a lot to discuss at this early stage.” Nierob also told the outlet that casting rumors for Passion of the Christ: Resurrection are hearsay.

According to reports, Gibson has been working on the script for Passion of the Christ: Resurrection with Braveheart screenwriter Randall Wallace for years. Instead of rushing through the creative process, Gibson prefers to take his time, knowing that the continuation of the story that started in The Passion of the Christ needs care and attention. In an interview with ORMI Media, Gibson said the screenplay is complete, and Jim Caviezel is returning to reprise his role as Jesus Christ for the sequel.

Gibson’s period drama The Passion of the Christ depicts the final twelve hours of Jesus of Nazareth’s life on the day of his crucifixion in Jerusalem. Gibson says Passion of the Christ: Resurrection is “not a linear narrative,” saying he wants to “juxtapose the central event” with other themes while looking at the savior’s future.

With nearly $612 million worldwide banked at the box office, The Passion of the Christ held the record for the highest-grossing R-rated movie for over 20 years at $370 million. Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine dethroned the biblical epic with a domestic total of $622M+ and $1.3B+ worldwide.

Are you excited that Mel Gibson is making headway on his Passion of the Christ sequel? Do you think Resurrection has the potential to surpass Deadpool & Wolverine at the box office? Let us know in the comments section below.

For two seasons, Fallout star Ella Purnell had the lead in a drama series called Sweetbitter for Starz. Now she returns to Starz in another show with “Sweet” in the title, this one a six episode limited series called Sweetpea, which is set to premiere as a Starz original in the United States and Canada on October 10th. A teaser trailer for this one dropped online a month ago, and now a full trailer has arrived and can be viewed in the embed above.

The short description of Sweetpea goes like this: “The girl everyone overlooks might just be able to get away with murder.” Here’s some more information: Rhiannon Lewis doesn’t make much of an impression – people walk past her in the street without a second glance. She’s continually overlooked for a promotion at work, the guy she likes won’t commit, and her dad is really, really sick. So far, so shit. Then everything in her life turns upside down. Rhiannon is pushed over the edge, and loses control. Suddenly the wallflower is gone, and in its place is a young woman capable of anything… Rhiannon’s life transforms as she steps into a new, intoxicating power, but can she keep her killer secret? The limited series is based on a novel by C.J. Skuse.

Purnell, who also played a prominent character on Yellowjackets, takes on the role of Rhiannon Lewis and is joined in the cast by Nicôle Lecky (Sense8), Jon Pointing (Big Boys), Calam Lynch (Dunkirk), Leah Harvey (Foundation), Tim Samuels (Empire of Light), Dino Kelly (Peaky Blinders), Lucy Heath (Trying), Alexander Bellinfantie (My Bloody Galentine), Elliot Cable (The Shamrock Spitfire), Jessica Brindle (EastEnders), Luke McGibney (Mystery Island), and Jessye Romeo (Pennyworth).

Sweetpea is coming our way from See-Saw Films and Fanboy, in association with Sky Studios. The series was written by executive producer Kirstie Swain, along with fellow writers Krissie Ducker, Laura Jayne Tunbridge, and Selina Lim. Ella Jones is director and executive producer.

Purnell provided the following statement: “I truly cannot wait for the world to meet Sweetpea! I’ve loved exploring this incredibly complex character, as well as working alongside our dynamic cast and powerhouses Ella Jones, Kristie Swain, and Patrick Walters (executive producer). This has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career so far. At its core, the series is about a woman finally finding her voice, told through a uniquely dark and comedic lens. I hope audiences have as much fun going on Rhiannon Lewis’ wild, coming-of-rage journey as we did bringing it to life.

What did you think of the Sweetpea trailer? Will you be watching this show when it airs on Starz? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
