It’s trendy these days to take a character from popular children’s stories and given them a horror twist. Lately we’ve been hearing about horror movies based on the likes of Winnie the Pooh, Mickey Mouse, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Peter Pan, Bambi, Pinocchio, Three Blind Mice, and Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and now Alpeke Entertainment has revealed that they’ve made a slasher horror comedy called Shiver Me Timbers, which puts a horror twist on Popeye the Sailor.

Directed by Paul Mann and produced by Alpeke Entertainment, Shiver Me Timbers is set to premiere at the American Film Market in Las Vegas, “giving attendees an exclusive preview of a wild ride, the likes of which you’ve not experienced before.” EuroObscura will be handling international sales at the event.

In Shiver Me Timbers, Olive Oyl, her brother Castor and friends, go on a camping trip to see the meteor shower with Halley’s Comet. But the night turns into horror as a meteor transforms Popeye into an unstoppable killing machine. With thrilling 80s slasher references and comedic twists, the film combines elements of horror and comedy in a fresh take on both genres. Shiver Me Timbers pays tribute to classic slasher films while delivering hilarious moments, shocking scares, and nostalgic nods that will delight both horror and Popeye fans alike. Here’s another synopsis: In Northern California during the summer of 1986, Olive Oyl, along with her cinema-obsessed friends and brother Castor, embark on a once-in-a-lifetime camping trip to witness the dazzling meteor shower accompanying the arrival of Halley’s Comet. But what starts as a serene evening of stargazing quickly turns into a harrowing nightmare when a meteor from the comet transforms Popeye, into a terrifying and unstoppable killing machine.

Made in the UK, the film has a running time of 75 minutes. A press release notes that Shiver Me Timbers promises a thrilling viewing experience, enhanced by a recognizable character who brings a dose of humor and heroism to the horror genre. With a blend of adventure and suspenseful fun, the film delivers a rollercoaster of a plot that will leave audiences “shivering in their timbers.”

A trailer for the film can be seen at the top of this article, and a batch of first look images can be found below, along with a poster. Check them out, then share your thoughts on Shiver Me Timbers by leaving a comment below.

We can all agree that Stephen King is one of the most prolific authors of the 21st century. His books have influenced countless authors and set the foundation for modern horror media. King is the only writer whose books have given me a feeling of dread when I’m just on the second page. He has written hit after hit, and his life is just as fascinating as any story he has ever written. Over the years many people have asked Stephen King which one of his novels was favorite. He has always said that it was “The Dead Zone”, which shouldn’t really shouldn’t be a surprise. Even though he was a successful author before “The Dead Zone” was published, it was his first massive hit. The book put him on the map and set him down the road to become the legend we know today.

I have to agree, “The Dead Zone” is one of his best novels – it’s easily in my top 5 favorite King books. The book revolves around Johnny Smith, a man who, after an accident, falls into a coma for 5 years. When he awakens, he discovers that part of his brain is damaged beyond repair; he dubs this part of his brain “The Dead Zone”. Because of this damage, his brain compensates by developing psychic powers. He can now see visions by touching objects and people. Eventually, Jonny sees a vision of a corrupt and sadistic senator named Greg Stillson becoming president. To his horror, he sees Stillson causing a global nuclear war killing billions. Because of this, Smith tries to kill Stilson to stop this horrific future from ever occurring.

In 1983 the novel was turned into a classic film that was directed by David Cronenberg and starring Christopher Walken was released to critical acclaim. Indeed, The Dead Zone was one of the few Stephen King adaptations that worked. For years the majority of King’s adaptations were either horrible or were so distant from the source material that they were just in name only.

For decades the 1983 film was the only adaptation of the book that was ever made. But in 2002 a new take on the novel was created, this time for television. The series would create a dedicated following that is still praising it even after its cancellation. The show was one of a group of massive hits for the USA Network that were being produced at the time. Not to mention it would set a historic record of the highest ratings for a premiere of a cable series in television history. If you’re curious, the number was 6.4 million viewers.

It would also push Anthony Michael Hall’s career to a new level, with him, at the time, being best known for being a member of The Brat Pack. It’s one of my top 5 favorite TV shows of all time. But does it still hold up? Well, let’s take a walk into the mysterious Dead Zone to find out and luckily two stars of the show John L Adams and Kristin Dalton will be leading the way in this episode of Gone But Not Forgotten, which you can watch embedded above!

The Babadook Jennifer Kent

Writer/director Jennifer Kent’s horror film The Babadook is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year – and in the midst of the celebration, we might have just found out what her next genre movie is going to be. Back in September, Kent told Gizmodo that she’s developing an adaptation of “a very well-known horror book,” and now World of Reel reports the RUMOR that the book in question is Clive Barker’s 1992 novel The Thief of Always!

According to World of Reel, Kent’s take on The Thief of Always is “currently in the advanced stages of development. You can expect this one to be officially announced very soon.”

Barker’s novel has the following description: Mr. Hood’s Holiday House has stood for a thousand years, welcoming countless children into its embrace. It is a place of miracles where every childhood whim may be satisfied. There is a price to be paid, of course, but young Harvey Swick, bored with his life and beguiled by Mr. Hood’s wonders, does not stop to consider the consequences. It is only when the house shows its darker face—when Harvey discovers the pitiful creatures that dwell in its shadows—that he comes to doubt Mr. Hood’s philanthropy. But the house and its mysterious architect are not about to release their captive without a battle. Mr. Hood has ambitions for his new guest, for Harvey’s soul burns brighter than any he has encountered in ten centuries…

More than twenty years ago, an adaptation of The Thief of Always was set up at Universal, with Bill & Ted franchise writer Ed Solomon working on the screenplay and ILM planning to make it their first CG-animated feature. But, even though Solomon is said to have turned in an excellent script, that project didn’t make it into production. Now, it appears that The Thief of Always is in the hands of Jennifer Kent, who would seem to be a good fit to bring the material to the screen.

Would you like to see Jennifer Kent make a movie based on Clive Barker’s The Thief of Always? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

We’re that much closer to the final season of Netflix‘s hit series, Stranger Things. The streamer has just released the title teaser of the upcoming closer year to the show. Season 5 was announced as the final season of Stranger Things with additional projects in the universe in the works, including: Stranger Things: The First Shadow live on stage in London’s West End and coming to Broadway in 2025, along with an untitled animated spinoff series.

David Harbour recently told Happy Sad Confused host Josh Horowitz and the people in the audience that he has very strong opinions about the show that may not match the opinions of a fan. Since he works on the show and sees “the nuts and bolts,” he’ll get very mad at what he thinks is a bad episode or if there’s a season he didn’t like. He said (with thanks to People for the transcription), “I can be very critical of this show,” but with the series finale, “They land the plane, and it is the best episode they’ve ever done. The end of this episode when we were reading it – just us reading it – about halfway through, people started crying. Then about the last 20 minutes, it was just uncontrollably crying, waves of different people. Noah Schnapp being my favorite. I think part of that also is the fact that these kids, it was their childhood. Like, they started the show when they were 11 and 12, and here we are reading [the finale]. It’s 10 years later, and we examine that idea, and it’s so well done and so beautiful. It’s such a great episode, and it’s such a great season. You guys will love it.“

Netflix also celebrates Stranger Things day today, On November 6, 1983, Will Byers went missing in Hawkins, Indiana. Long after the town gave up the search, his friends kept looking… and discovered a mysterious girl known only by a number: Eleven. She was alone, hunted, and extremely powerful. Eleven would stop at nothing to help them find their friend. Stranger Things fans everywhere celebrate November 6 as ‘Stranger Things Day,’ a special day to share their love for the world of Stranger Things.

With so many ways to experience this fan-favorite show, we’ve celebrated ‘Stranger Season’ all month with special screenings, in-person experiences, new limited-edition merchandise, and more!”

Far and Away came a few years after Cruise had broken through with Risky Business and Top Gun. Michael Caine recently recalled when Tom Cruise was an up-and-coming actor and sought his wisdom, “I’ve known Tom for more than 40 years. We were doing a big event for Educating Rita (1983) and I turned around and there was this young actor, very polite, asking questions about how not to be just a flash in the pan. That was Tom, probably around the time of Risky Business.”

Daniel Craig bond

It’s only been three years since Daniel Craig had his final outing as James Bond, but it feels like so much longer – especially since there seems to be no movement on the future of 007. And while we all have our picks and favorites, Craig doesn’t. Seriously, he just plain doesn’t care.

Daniel Craig recently took part in a Variety Q&A with Queer co-star Drew Starkey. Eventually, the questions shifted to the James Bond franchise, with one key question asking the fellas who they would love to see play 007. With a chuckle, Craig said, “I don’t care.”

That’s pretty much the sort of indifference we would expect from Daniel Craig on the James Bond matter by this point. But he did have an extra surprise when challenged to name how many times he portrayed the character. “I’m gonna get it wrong…I’d have to count them, I don’t know. One, two, three…Five?” Ding ding ding! That’s a bit more accurate than what Starkey had for his answer: “Too many,” which Craig agreed with.

This is in line with past comments Daniel Craig has made about his Bond tenure, saying, “Let’s kill my character off and go find another Bond and go find another story. Start at [age] 23, start at 25, start at 30. The other [reason for leaving the franchise] was so that I could move on. I don’t want to go back…I suppose I should be so lucky if they were to ask me back, but the fact is I need to move on from it.”

We are no doubt a long way away from knowing who will take over James Bond following Daniel Craig’s 15-year, five-film (we double-checked for ya, Danny!) run. But we may as well get used to it at this point, as we’ll still have quite a while until we know not only the next 007 but also the next director, as major players like Edward Berger, Sam Mendes and Christopher Nolan have all denied their involvement, leaving the opportunity open for possible a young director to match any prospective Bond.

Where do you think Daniel Craig ranks in the list of James Bond portrayers? Give us your definitive ranking below.

Star Trek, Seven of Nine spinoff, Jeri Ryan

Fans were mixed on the first two seasons of Star Trek: Picard, but the third season gave them what they wanted from the very beginning. It also laid the groundwork for a potential Star Trek spinoff, which would have followed Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) as the new captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise G. Showrunner Terry Matalas dubbed the spinoff Star Trek: Legacy, but Paramount didn’t move forward with the concept. However, Ryan told the audience at Spacecon (via TrekMovie) that she had been pitched a different spinoff series, which she ultimately turned down.

There has been talk. And there was an idea that was actually pitched to me after Picard ended, which was not the Legacy show that I know the fans are asking for, that I want to do,” Ryan explained. “But it just wasn’t me… It didn’t feel like the right kind of thing… But there has been talk. And if there is one thing I have learned with this franchise it is: never say never. You never know.

It’s not clear what this other Star Trek spinoff would have been, but many fans believe Paramount dropped the ball by not greenlighting Star Trek: Legacy. They’ve also lost Terry Matalas, as Marvel has tapped him to serve as showrunner of the upcoming Vision series.

Although Star Trek: Legacy may not happen, there’s still plenty of Star Trek to look forward to. The fifth and final season of Star Trek: Lower Decks has begun streaming on Paramount+. The third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will debut in 2025, with a fourth season already ordered. There’s also Star Trek: Section 31, the first streaming movie of the franchise. Michelle Yeoh reprises her role as Philippa Georgiou as she joins Section 31, a secret division of Starfleet tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets, and must face the sins of her past. The film will debut on Paramount+ on January 24, 2025.

There’s also a brand-new Star Trek series currently in production titled Starfleet Academy. Set in the 32nd century, the series follows the first new class of Starfleet cadets in over a century as they come of age and train to be officers. It also has some serious star power: Holly Hunter plays the head of Starfleet Academy, and Paul Giamatti finally gets to live out his Star Trek dreams as the main villain. The series has already been renewed for a second season, with Tatiana Maslany joining the cast.

Scream, Matthew Lillard

Although there have been some bumps in the road (to put it mildly), the Scream franchise is trucking forward with a seventh installment set to be directed by original Scream screenwriter Kevin Williamson. Matthew Lillard, who played Stu Macher in the first Scream movie, told GamesRadar+ that he believes the franchise is in a good place but that recent sequels have gotten “too violent.

I think it’s in a good place. I think that [the movie being] back in the hands of Kevin Williamson is great. I love what [Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin] were doing before. nothing against them. In fact, I thought they were taking a really exciting way,” Lillard said. “I thought the movie got too violent. I think 6 was, like… I don’t think Ghostface ever needs a shotgun. I think that the movies are – everything is trying to repeat what we did in the first movie in a lot of ways. Like, a maniacal monologue at the end. It’s really hard to do. I hope that Kevin takes it in a brand new, brave, and exciting direction so that we can sort of find different colors and different joys.

Lillard has also expressed a desire to return as Stu, who he believes isn’t dead. “Stu is definitely alive,” Lillard said. “That would be fun. I would love it. If it made sense, if it made sense for the franchise. If Kevin [Williamson] liked it, then sure.

Scream 7 will see the return of Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott. She played the role in the first five Scream movies and was expected to return for the sixth until the studio low-balled her. “As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream,” Campbell said. “I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise. It’s been a very difficult decision to move on.” Hopefully they apologized with a dump truck of cash this time around. It’s also possible that Patrick Dempsey might be returning as well, reprising his role as Mark Kincad. Scream 7 is slated for a February 27, 2026 release.

As the first movie opened with a horrific murder and disembowelling, I don’t necessarily agree that the recent Scream movies are any more violent than they’ve always been. What do you think?

Bruce Willis, Vice, Quentin Tarantino

Before being diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, Bruce Willis had starred in a lot of direct-to-video movies. Critics trashed many of these films, and the Razzies even gave Willis his own category (which they later rescinded after his diagnosis). However, Quentin Tarantino has defended Bruce Willis’ direct-to-video movies on the Video Archives Podcast after watching a bunch of them.

These movies that he’s been making for these companies have really gone under fire in a really big way,” Tarantino said, “and there’s been these kinds of expose articles written about them and talking shit about these movies.” Much like the rest of us at the time, Tarantino remembers thinking, “What the f*** is this, what the f*** is Bruce Willis doing this stuff for?” Ultimately, Tarantino “decided to watch a few of them to see how Bruce equipped himself” and was quite surprised by how much he enjoyed them.

I was really impressed by Bruce Willis in these movies,” he said. “I thought he was really charming in them. He’s really fun.” The director admitted that it was obvious that Willis was operating with an earpiece. “You can never have a scene where he says a line, somebody else says a line, and he says a line back,” he explained. “You’re getting one line out of him at a time, so there’s always a cut. But he’s making it work. He’s not phoning in his performances.

Tarantino continued, “I ended up watching about six of them, they’re very easy to watch. They’re very entertaining. There’s not like there’s a classic among them, there’s no One-Armed Executioner, but the people who are putting these movies down obviously have never seen any real exploitation movies before.” He singled out Vice, Trauma Center, and Deadlock as the best of the ones he watched. “In Vice, Bruce looks like a million dollars,” he said. “He’s terrific, it’s a good role for him, he’s a lot of fun in it. I wish he had more to do because he’s really good.

Willis was typically given top billing in these projects and was front and center in the marketing despite only shooting for a day or two. In 2022 alone, he was featured in a dozen direct-to-video projects.

How many of Willis’ direct-to-video movies have you seen? What are some of your favourites?

Daniel Craig, Knives Out 3, Wake Up Dead Man, theaters

Netflix isn’t always keen to give its movies a substantial release in theaters, but Daniel Craig hopes they’ll make an exception for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. The actor told Variety that he hopes the third Knives Out film gets to play in theaters for longer than a single week, which is all Netflix gave Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.

You know I do,” Craig said. “Hopefully, Netflix will push it out a bit, and people will get to see it. The people I speak to — the fans, I suppose — all they want to do is take their families and go see it at the cinemas. That’s all they want to do. Hopefully we can give them that experience.Wake Up Dead Man is slated to debut on Netflix in 2025 but doesn’t have an official release date, so there’s still plenty of time for the sequel to receive some sort of theatrical release. Netflix rolled out Glass Onion in 600 theaters, which remains the biggest release the streaming service has given any of its movies. Will Netflix do the same (or more) for Wake Up Dead Man?

The first Knives Out movie grossed $312 million on a budget of just $40 million. Netflix then made a deal with writer/director Rian Johnson for a whopping $465 million for two sequels. At the time, sources said that Johnson, Craig, and producer Ram Bergman could walk away with upward of $100 million each. Now, you can count me as someone who would love to see the Knives Out sequels in theaters, but for that sort of money, I think they knew what they were getting into.

Wake Up Dead Man naturally features Craig as detective Benoit Blanc alongside a supporting cast which includes Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Chuch. We don’t know all that much about the plot, but Brolin has said that the film is more like the first one than the second. “I loved the acting in both of them. I preferred the first one, and the third one felt more like the first one,” Brolin said. “[Rian] doesn’t come off as this, but he has this incredible control over his set. You know, he just has a major presence that reminds me of Denis [Villeneuve, Dune and Sicario director], that reminds me of the Coens [directors of No Country for Old Men, True Grit, and Hail, Caesar!], that reminds me of those types of directors. And he’s a great writer.
