supernatural reunion, jensen ackles, jared padalecki

Supernatural came to a close in 2020 after fifteen seasons, which is a hell of a run for any live-action show, but fans would still love to see a reunion of the Winchesters.

There have been rumblings of a Supernatural reunion, and according to Jared Padalecki, the only thing standing in the way is time. “It’s not that I haven’t seriously considered doing it, my single answer is yes. It’s timing. It’s availability,” Padalecki said while speaking with Collider. “Jensen and I feel so strongly about our show that we had for 15 years together that we don’t wanna just do it, just to do it. We don’t wanna go, ‘Hey, I have two weeks off in June. Let’s go ahead and shoot 10 pages a day, just so we can have some more content.’

Padalecki continued, “If and when Supernatural comes back, it’s going to be a labor of love, and we’re gonna put every hour in to make sure that it’s as true to the canon and to the fandom and to the story and to the characters as possible. So, my short answer is it’s not a consideration, the answer is yes . I just don’t know when I’m available. I don’t know when he’s available. But again, my answer is yes.

The Supernatural franchise with The Winchesters, a prequel series centering on Sam and Dean’s parents, but the series was cancelled after a single season. The producers attempted to find a new home for the series, but no one was willing to pick it up, especially as the Hollywood strikes were in full swing. In a statement at the time, Jensen Ackles said: “To all of you who watched, followed, and supported this story, THANK YOU. And to all those who brought this show to life…I couldn’t be more proud of what we all did together. But as they say…timing is everything. With a massive Network shift coupled with an industry strike…welp…that’s some unfortunate timing. Sleep well dear Winchesters… until we meet again. Somewhere down the road.

In terms of a Supernatural reunion, some might say that the series lasted long enough, but the Supernatural fanbase is extremely passionate and would be more than eager to spend just a little more time with Sam and Dean.

Star Wars: The Acolyte, Dafne Keen

Star Wars: The Acolyte will take audiences back to the High Republic era of the franchise, a period in which the Jedi were at their height. Naturally, we will meet plenty of Jedi in the upcoming series, including Jecki Lon, a Padawan played by Logan star Dafne Keen.

Jecki Lon is the Padawan to Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae), and Dafne Keen spoke with Entertainment Weekly about her character. “Well, I’m very excited that we know her name now, because it was secret for so long,” Keen said. “And I’m very happy that I get to say that she’s an alien and that she’s a Padawan and that she’s a Jedi. She’s a mixed species — part Theelin, part human. She’s very cool and I have some very cool fights I do with the lightsaber. I really love her. She’s a great character and was really fun to play. I’m very excited that the trailer came out. I was buzzing for days.

Keen also explained Lon’s relationship with her Master. “I’d say she is a very dedicated Padawan. She’s definitely in awe of him in a very kind of sweet way,” she said. “She thinks the absolute world of him in a way that I think they have a very sweet relationship, but she’s much more aware of the authority difference than, for example, Obi-Wan and Anakin. She’s very much like, ‘No, he’s the master and I’m the Padawan and he’s perfect. And everything he says, I have to follow to the T.’” Entertainment Weekly also dropped a few new photos from The Acolyte featuring Dafne Keen as Jecki Lon.

The Acolyte logline reads: “An investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems.” The series will premiere on Disney+ on June 4th

3 Body Problem, Netflix Top 10

3 Body Problem has landed on the top spot of Netflix’s Top 10 list with 15.6 million views, but is it good enough for a series which reportedly boasts a price tag of $20 million per episode?

To put it in comparison, Avatar: The Last Airbender debuted in the number one spot upon its release with 21.2 million views. The show would be dethroned by The Gentlemen, which debuted to 12.2 million views and rose to 20.1 million views the following week. While viewership numbers for 3 Body Problem are nothing to sneeze at, the sizeable budget could cause Netflix to pause when it comes to renewing the series.

David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo have envisioned a multi-season arc for the series, which could span between three or four seasons. “Well, there’s three novels in the trilogy,” Woo told GamesRader last month. “The novels get longer and longer so I wouldn’t say it maps out exactly to three. We have some really strong ideas about what to do in a season two, and then it’s a little hazier down the line. But we want to get to the end, we want to get to the end of the trilogy, and whether that’s three or four, you know, or some other number. The goal is to get to the end of the trilogy and it seems like it would map out over probably, certainly more than two seasons but beyond that, it’s hard to know exactly.

Should 3 Body Problem wind up spanning three seasons, it would cost Netflix nearly half a billion dollars, and that’s assuming the budget stays consistent.

A young woman’s fateful decision in 1960s China reverberates across space and time into the present day,” reads the synopsis for 3 Body Problem. “When the laws of nature inexplicably unravel before their eyes, a close-knit group of brilliant scientists join forces with an unflinching detective to confront the greatest threat in humanity’s history.

The series has received generally positive reviews, but our own Alex Maidy didn’t exactly love it. “I found it very hard to engage with this story, these characters, and this series,” Maidy wrote. “A misfire in every way, 3 Body Problem has some talented actors delivering some memorable moments, but none of it adds up to an experience that is satisfying, fulfilling, or even all that enjoyable.” You can check out the rest of Maidy’s review right here.

After a brief halt in production, AMC was able to secure “significant agreements” with the SAG-AFTRA actors union that allowed them to continue filming Interview with the Vampire season 2 during the SAG strike last year, keeping the show on track for its 2024 premiere. The Sunday, May 12th premiere date is now swiftly approaching – and even though we just saw a trailer for the show a couple weeks ago, a new trailer for Interview with the Vampire season 2 has now been unveiled. You can watch it in the embed above.

Anne Rice’s novel Interview with the Vampire centers on the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac as he relates the story of his life to a reporter, in particular how he was turned into a vampire and then mentored by Lestat de Lioncourt. Season 2 of the TV series will pick up in the year 2022, with vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac recounting his life story to journalist Daniel Molloy after the bloody events in New Orleans in 1940 when Louis and teen vampire Claudia tried to kill Lestat de Lioncourt. The adventure continues as Louis and Claudia escape to Europe on a quest to discover Old World Vampires and the Theatre Des Vampires in Paris, and it’s there that Louis meets vampire Armand. Louis and Armand’s love affair will prove to have devastating consequences both in the past and in the future.

Executive producer Mark Johnson has previously said that Interview with the Vampire season 2 takes place in the 1790s, 1940s, 1970s, and 2023.

The new season stars Sam Reid as the vampire Lestat; Jacob Anderson as Lestat’s companion Louis de Pointe du Lac; Assad Zaman as Rashid, Louis’ companion in present day; Kalyne Coleman as Louis’ sister Grace; Christian Robinson as Levi, an upstanding Baptist who has won Grace’s heart; and Eric Bogosian as Daniel Molloy, an investigative journalist nearing the end of his career who’s given a second chance at the interview of a lifetime. For season 2, Ben Daniels (Foundation) joins the cast as the vampire Santiago. And while Bailey Bass played the vampire Claudia in the first season, Delainey Hayles takes over the role in the new season.

Guest stars include David Costabile (Suits) as Leonard, “a seasoned TV personality who has a run-in with Molloy”; Roxane Duran (Riviera) as Madeleine, and Bally Gill (Slow Horses) as “Real Rashid.”

Alan Taylor, who directed the Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark, executive produces Interview with the Vampire and directed the first two episodes of the show. Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul producer Mark Johnson is overseeing the building of AMC’s Vampire Chronicles franchise. Rolin Jones, co-creator and showrunner on the first season of the HBO series Perry Mason, is the creator, showrunner, and writer of the Interview with the Vampire series. Jones and Johnson executive produce the show alongside Taylor. Anne Rice’s son Christopher Rice is also on board as executive producer, and Rice receives an executive producer credit as well.

Velma, Season 2, Max Scooby-Doo

Sharpen your pitchforks and ready your tiki torches for the return of Velma, the mature-rated and highly controversial animated Scooby-Doo reboot series on Max! Max announced the show’s April 25 return via the network’s Twitter/X account, saying, “all the new movies, series, and shows coming your way this April,” alongside an image with TV series and features coming to Max throughout the month. Velma: Season 2 is coming, whether people like it or not, and I am ready for the discourse!

Other notable releases on the TV list include dates for Conan O’Brien Must Go (April 18), The Jinx – Part Two (April 21), We’re Here Season 4 (April 26), and Robert Downey Jr.’s The Sympathizer (April 14). The funny thing about Velma is that despite getting raked over the coals by critics and old-school Scooby-Doo fans, Velma was Max’s most significant debut for an animated series on the streaming platform. While a section of viewers would rather throw Velma’s glasses into the abyss, Max says the numbers don’t lie. says the numbers don’t lie. Even if people hate-watched the series, it was a hot topic on social media for weeks after its debut. Most networks would kill for that level of exposure, especially for an animated series.

Developed by showrunner Charlie Grandy, Velma tells the origin story of Velma Dinkley, the unsung and underappreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang. An original and humorous spin that unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America’s most beloved mystery solvers.

Mindy Kaling and Charlie Grandy, the executive producers, produced the show alongside Howard Klein and Sam Register. Warner Bros. Animation produces Velma.

Kaling is joined in the voice cast by Glenn Howerton (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) as Fred, Constance Wu (Fresh Off the Boat) as Daphne, and Sam Richardson (Werewolves Within) as Shaggy, a.k.a. Norville. Scooby-Doo is not in their lives yet when Velma begins.

Also in the voice cast are Jane Lynch (Glee), Wanda Sykes (The Other Two), Russell Peters (Life in Pieces), Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Stephen Root (Barry), Gary Cole (NCIS), Ken Leung (The Hangover), Cherry Jones (Transparent), Fortune Feimster (Kenan), Yvonne Orji (Insecure), Sarayu Blue (Never Have I Ever), Nicole Byer (Nailed It), Ming-Na Wen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Shay Mitchell (Pretty Little Liars), Debby Ryan (Insatiable), Kulap Vilaysak (Bob’s Burgers), “Weird Al” Yankovic, NBA player Karl-Anthony Towns, and voice acting legend Frank Welker, who has voiced both Fred and Scooby-Doo in the past.

Will you tune in for Velma: Season 2 on April 25th?

The Pope's Exorcist Russell Crowe

It’s been almost exactly one year since Columbia Pictures / Screen Gems brought The Pope’s Exorcist (read our review HERE), a supernatural thriller starring Russell Crowe, to theatres. Just two weeks after the film was released, our friends at Bloody Disgusting heard that a sequel was in development… but everything has been quiet since then. During a recent interview with The Six O’Clock Show, Crowe confirmed that a sequel is in development – and that The Pope’s Exorcist was actually meant to be chapter one in a trilogy!

As it turns out, things have been quiet on the Pope’s Exorcist front because there was a behind-the-scenes shake-up with the studio executives, but it sounds like Crowe still has hopes that the trilogy is going to happen. He told The Six O’Clock Show (with thanks to MovieWeb for the transcription), “(A sequel) is in discussion at the moment. The producers originally got the kick off from the studio not just for one sequel but for two. But there’s been a change of studio heads at the moment, so that’s going around in a few circles. But very definitely, man. We set that character up that you could take him out and put him into a lot of different circumstances. And remember, the man that’s based on, Gabriele Amorth, he wrote 12 books. So we have more than enough source material to do one or two more of those films.

A while back, The Exorcist director William Friedkin made a documentary about Father Gabriele Amorth (and you can read our review of The Devil and Father Amorth at THIS LINK), a real-life exorcist who passed away in 2016 at the age of 91. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Screen Gems acquired the rights to tell the story of the exorcist’s life from Michael Patrick Kaczmarek and faith-based media company Loyola Productions. That deal included rights to Amorth’s two international bestselling memoirs An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories, as well as other “detailed accounts of his exploits of pulling the devil out of people all over the world.”

For The Pope’s Exorcist, Crowe took on the role of real-life figure Father Gabriele Amorth, a priest who acted as chief exorcist of the Vatican and who performed more than 100,000 exorcisms in his lifetime. Amorth wrote two memoirs and detailed his experiences battling Satan and demons that had clutched people in their evil.

Overlord‘s Julius Avery directed The Pope’s Exorcist from a screenplay by Evan Spiliotopoulos, with revisions by Chuck MacLean. The script was based on original drafts by Chester Hastings & R. Dean McCreary, which received revisions from Michael Petroni.

Crowe was joined in the cast by Alex Essoe (Starry Eyes), Daniel Zovatto (It Follows), Laurel Marsden (Ms. Marvel), Cornell S. John (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald), and newcomer Peter DeSouza-Feighoney, with Franco Nero, star of the original Django, as the Pope. Ralph Ineson (The Witch) provided the voice of a demon.

Scott Strauss, Michael Bitar, and Giselle Johnson oversaw the project for Screen Gems. The film was produced by Michael Patrick Kaczmarek through his company Jesus & Mary, Loyola president Eddie Siebert, Doug Belgrad of 2.0 Entertainment, and Jeff Katz of Worldwide Katz.

The Chair Company, Tim Robinson, HBO

The creative force behind the American sketch comedy series I Think You Should Leave, Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin, are getting the band back together after landing a pilot at HBO for their new project, The Chair Company. Robinson and Kanin wrote the half-hour comedy pilot, with production courtesy of Adam McKay and Todd Schulman for Hyperobject Industries.

Written and executive-produced by Robinson and Kanin, The Chair Company focuses on a man (Robinson) investigating a far-reaching conspiracy after an embarrassing workplace incident. The Chair Company arrives at HBO just as the network has sunsetted Bill Hader’s Barry and Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm in the past several months.

Robinson and Kanin met while working as writers on Saturday Night Live. They’ve collaborated on other projects, such as Comedy Central‘s Detroiters and the sketch comedy series I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson for Netflix. The latter is a massive hit for Netflix, with new episodes planned. The show also boasts the comedy tour I Think You Should Leave Live: Tim Robinson & Zach Kanin, featuring the duo in various hilarious bits and scenes.

I Think You Should Leave is an award-winning series after taking home prizes at the WGA Awards in the Comedy/Variety Sketch Series category with awards for the show’s first two seasons. The duo won Emmys for Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama or Variety Series in 2023, with Robinson snagging Emmys for Outstanding Actor in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series.

I Think You Should Leave is a show I’ve been hearing about for months but have never seen a single second of. Clearly, it’s a significant hit with audiences, and it’s cool to hear that Robinson and Kanin have more ideas to share through their new pilot at HBO. Are you an I Think You Should Leave Fan? When details arrive online, are you looking forward to learning more about The Chair Company? Do you think Robinson’s character works at an actual chair manufacturer in the show? What kind of conspiracies could happen in a place like that? Feel free to share your thoughts and predictions in the comments section.

So what can be said about Andy Dick that the paparazzi and nearly every Judge from West Virginia to Los Angeles hasn’t already said? He was once a rising star in the comedy world with lovably nerdy characters on hit TV series before his demons grabbed a hold of him and took him down an over 25 year path of endless headlines with his name often times preceding the word “arrested.” In those years, he has compiled more Mug Shots than Head Shots and went from Star on the Rise to Registered Sex Offender. Yeah, I don’t know how else to say this other than: WTF Happened to Andy Dick?!

But as always we must begin at the beginning and the beginning began on his birthday, December 21, 1965 in Charleston, South Carolina. After graduating high school in the suburbs of Illinois, Andy would study at the famed Second City and Improv Olympic studios in Chicago while also attending both Wesleyan University and Columbia College Chicago.

Andy would land a few bit parts on short lived sitcoms such as the Jamie Lee Curtis/ Richard Lewis starring Anything But Love and the pre-Friends Matthew Perry starring Sydney before landing his big break as a sketch player on the Emmy winning The Ben Stiller Show. Despite that show being cancelled far too soon, it was a true launching pad for all of its talent. Especially the shows namesake, Ben Stiller, who enjoyed working with Andy so much that he gave him a role in his directorial debut Reality Bites (1994). After having memorable guest spots on The Late Show with David Letterman and The Nanny, Andy would land a co-lead role opposite the in demand at the time Pauly Shore for In The Army Now (1994) followed by a small part in the Video Game adaptation Double Dragon (1994).

News Radio and Phil Hartman and why Jon Lovitz punched him

But it would be 1995 when Andy Dick’s career really took off, after appearing in the rebooted Get Smart series, Andy would land a starring role on a new NBC series called NewsRadio opposite comedy legends Dave Foley, Stephen Root and Phil Hartman. The series would run for 5 seasons, yet never was a ratings juggernaut. But it was consistent, and garnered solid reviews which kept it on the air. During this time Andy would have brief appearances in several projects including the Ben Stiller directed The Cable Guy (1996), the Sarah Silverman mockumentary Who’s The Caboose? (1997), Best Men (1997) and would even appear in a Sheryl Crow music video (Andy comes in at the 37 second mark) while also getting his start in the world of voice acting with spots on Johnny Bravo and Jumanji.

WTF Happened to Andy Dick?

It was during this time that Andy’s demons began taking a hold on him. He would attend AA meetings with his good friend Chris Farley who was actually his sponsor at the time, but when Farley passed away from an overdose in December 1997, Andy began to slide even further into his addictions. It was around this time that it is alleged that Andy went to a Christmas party at Phil Hartman’s house where he and Hartman’s wife Brynn, who had been sober for ten years at the time, allegedly did cocaine together. That event is believed to have led Brynn Hartman to relapse, which would result in her murdering husband Phil Hartman on May 28, 1998 while high on cocaine before turning the gun on herself. While many don’t out right blame Andy Dick for this tragic event, one person has long held the belief that if Andy Dick hadn’t gone to that Christmas party, Phil Hartman would still be alive: Jon Lovitz, who took over for Phil Hartman after his death on NewsRadio. The animosity between the two was so bad that one day on set Andy told Lovitz that he shouldn’t be there to which Lovitz replied “Well, I wouldn’t be here if you hadn’t given Brynn coke in the first place.” The show was cancelled shortly after and the feud has continued ever since with Andy one time approaching Lovitz in a restaurant and saying to him “I put the Phil Hartman hex on you- you’re the next to die.” Later that year, Lovitz reportedly shoved Andy’s head against a bar at the famed Laugh factory several times until a security guard separated them.

Sadly, this wouldn’t be the only death of a NewsRadio cast member that Andy would be associated with. In March 1999, Andy and actor David Strickland flew to Las Vegas and spent three straight days partying it up in the city that never sleeps. After that three day bender, Strickland, while intoxicated, hung himself in his motel room while Andy would later be questioned about the events surrounding Strickland’s death. These tragic events in his life would lead Andy Dick down a spiral that began with his first run in with the law on May 15, 1999 when he crashed his car into utility pole and was arrested for felony cocaine possession with the charges being dismissed after he completed an 18 month drug diversion program.

WTF Happened to Andy Dick?

Zoolander, Old School and other cameos

This would be the beginning of Andy Dick becoming far more infamous for his off screen shenanigans than his on screen ones. He was never the lead star, but you could always count on him to show up in a small role and knock it out of the park whether it was in direct to video roles like Bongwater (1998), Advice From a Caterpillar (1999) or in voice over gigs like The Lion King II: Samba’s Pride (he played Nuka) and Castle in the Sky (he voiced Henri in the English language dub) to showing up in some pretty solid cameo spots in movies such as Permanent Midnight (1998), Inspector Gadget (1999), Loser (2000), Road Trip (2000) for which he would be nominated for a Teen Choice Award for “Choice Sleazebag” as well as an MTV Movie Award Nomination for Best Cameo, Dude, Where’s My car? (2000) and the Ben Stiller directed Zoolander (2001). He would remain out of trouble long enough to launch his own MTV show The Andy Dick Show in 2001 which would garner him his second Teen Choice Award Nomination for “Choice TV Personality” followed by appearing in several other projects such as Family Guy, Clone High the successful ABC sitcom Less Than Perfect as well as back on the big screen in small roles such as voicing Lennie the Weasel in Dr. Dolittle 2 and an uncredited cameo in Old School as a man who teaches a certain skill set.

Andy Dick Arrests and Rehab

But in 2004, Andy was back in the headlines, not for his role voicing Maurice in the hit video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, but for his less than savory behavior. First he was arrested in 2004 for mooning people at a McDonald’s, which admittedly sounds hilarious, but it was the beginning of a slippery slope for him. Andy would be invited to take part in the Comedy Central Roast of Pamela Anderson (2005) where he would proceed to grope the honoree several times and there are several photos of him around the web of him just licking people’s faces, for no reason other than he thinks it is funny, including doing it several times at the Comedy Central Roast of William Shatner (2006) while in 2007 Andy was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live where he had to be forcibly removed from the show by the host after touching fellow guest Ivanka Trump several times.

But it wasn’t just on TV that Andy was being a professional nuisance, in 2005, Andy would perform stand up in Alberta, Canada where he would drop his pants to the unsuspecting audience and be ushered off the stage with the remaining shows cancelled. The following year, Andy would call the audience at his stand up show the N word and would be forced to issue an apology but not long after he would go on a radio show and call Howard Stern some extremely anti-semetic things

Sure Andy was continuing to pop up on our screens in things like Arrested Development, ER, CSI, Community, Legit, 2 Broke Girls, The Simpsons and in films such as Danny Roane: First Time Director which was also his first time directing a film, Blonde Ambition (2007), The Comebacks (2007) to even appearing on the big screen in films such as Funny People (2009) and Zoolander 2 (2016), but his personal life had now fully overshadowed his professional one. In 2008 he was arrested again for drug possession and sexual battery after pulling down the top of a 17 year old girl outside a Buffalo Wild Wings. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor battery and marijuana charge and was given three years of probation and ordered to wear an alcohol monitoring bracelet for a year. Sadly it would be just two years later when Andy would be arrested again in West Virginia on charges of sexual abuse after he reportedly groped a bartender and patron. He would be formally indicted on the charges a year later. After a 6 month delay, the judge showed him some mercy and said that if he could stay out of trouble for six months, the charges would be dropped, which he did, however the two victims would later file civil suits against the actor.

Andy Dick Hits Rock Bottom

In 2009, Andy would appear on the VH1 reality series Sober House where it seemed he genuinely had a desire to get clean, but not long after he would be back to his old ways, drunkenly showcasing his body to people that did not want it showcased to them such as the time in 2010 when he exposed himself outside Cafe Audrey in Hollywood, or at the 2011 Newport Beach Film Festival where he exposed himself before urinating on a backdrop. Later that year, he would be sued by an audience member at one of his comedy shows after Andy rubbed his genitals on the man’s face. But more than just exposing himself, he also feels he has the right to inappropriately touch whomever he wants whenever he wants, including instances at the 2011 AVN awards where he repeatedly groped and stalked adult film actresses.

In 2016 we would get a brief glimpse into the real Andy Dick when he posted a 20 minute video from the bedside of his dying brother. The video was a heartbreaking glimpse into the life him and his brother, both adopted, had endured and how his early life has taken its toll on him as an adult. The video doesn’t offer an excuse for his behavior, but gives you a bit of an insight into why Andy Dick has had trouble staying sober all these years. But sadly by 2017, he was back to his old ways. He would be fired from a role in the independent film Raising Buchanan after allegations of groping people’s genitals and unwanted kissing and licking of several crew members. That same month he would be fired from a role in the film Vampire Dad for many of the same complaints.

WTF Happened to Andy Dick?

It would seem in 2019, Andy had met his match when he allegedly tried groping a man who then punched Andy in the head so hard he had to go to the hospital and be monitored for a brain bleed. Later that year, after the Me Too movement came into full effect, a paparazzi video came out that found Andy outside a restaurant, drunk, asking him about the scandals of Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey, Dick made light of the situation, but then things got a bit serious, when Andy gets candid with the camerawoman after threatening to grope her, tearfully admitting that he contemplates committing suicide every day. This was another rare glimpse into a man that on the outside seems to be just purely out of control, while on the inside he is fighting very real unseen demons.

But the thing about Andy Dick is… the people that have worked with him, for the most part, seem to like him. His friends in the industry, from Ben Stiller to Judd Apatow keep pulling for their friend with Apatow even casting him in his TV series Love to play a fictionalized version of

himself who desperately yearns to be clean and sober. There was even a documentary made about him titled Everybody Has an Andy Dick Story that was due to premiere at the Chicago Comedy Film Festival in 2022, but was pulled from release when Andy Dick was yet again arrested, this time with a full live stream of the arrest, while living in an RV park for felony sexual battery.

Failed comeback and Andy Dick now

Andy Dick was never a performer who was at the top of the call sheet, but he was someone who you could generally count on for a decent walk on laugh. His most successful characters played on his nerdy persona that was the butt of the joke most of the time, but behind the scenes he was a person who has had to fight his demons combined with headline making heartbreak that only made his demons get worse. He is a person who thinks he is being funny when the rest of the world has stopped laughing. It is telling that even in this episode, the bulk of it is spent on his misdeeds and not his work. We didn’t even mention his roles in Sharknado 2, Employee of the Month or his hilarious guest spot on Workaholics or his work on the hit Netflix series Sense8 or a number of his direct to video films, for which there are plenty! Nor did we have time to mention all of his legal troubles from stealing power tools to even more sexual assaults with the most recent of which happened in January of 2023 when he was arrested for public intoxication and failure to register as a sex offender, something that he became after being found guilty of groping an Uber driver in 2022 and even the time he almost died from snorting Fentanyl which he thought was cocaine.

There is just so much to report on him that only a feature length video could begin to scratch the surface, but the over arching story of Andy Dick is that of a man who seems to have lost touch with reality a long time ago. Is it possible for him to one day get this all figured out and get his life on track? Anything is possible, and we genuinely hope he does because when Andy Dick puts in the work, he has proven he can be an entertaining person. We generally like to end these with the phrase “Don’t worry about WTF Happened to so and so because so and so is doing just fine.” But for Andy Dick, we’re not sure he is. In December of 2023, he was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender after changing his address. Indeed, it’s been a harsh comedown for the comedian, but we are hopeful that this story will one day have a happy ending, and if you follow him on Instagram, it does look like for the time being, he is doing better than the headlines would have us believe, and that is something to be happy about, hopefully after 25 years, this is the long stretch that gets him back in the public’s good graces.

Mary McCormack

Dakota Fanning and The Strangers director Bryan Bertino are teaming up for a horror movie called Vicious, which is coming our way from Paramount Pictures, and Deadline reports that Fanning is being joined in the cast by Devyn Nekoda (Scream VI), Mary McCormack (The West Wing), Rachel Blanchard (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Kathryn Hunter (Poor Things), Klea Scott (Millennium), and Emily Mitchell (Ordinary Angels). The film is heading toward an August 8, 2025 theatrical release.

Scripted by Bertino, Vicious sees Fanning taking on the role of a young woman who is left a strange present by a late-night visitor, and quickly realizes she is fighting for her life after slipping down a disturbing rabbit hole contained inside the gift.

An Atlas Independent production, the film is being produced by Richard Suckle, with Melinda Whitaker serving as executive producer.

Bertino made his feature directorial debut with the 2008 horror film The Strangers and has since followed that up with three more horror films: 2014’s Mockingbird, which he co-wrote with Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail, 2016’s The Monster, and 2020’s The Dark and the Wicked. He also wrote the initial screenplay for The Strangers: Prey at Night, which got a rewrite from Ben Ketai and ended up being directed by Johannes Roberts.

While Bertino focuses on Vicious, the Strangers franchise is continuing on without him. Director Renny Harlin recently shot an entire trilogy of Strangers movies at the same time, with Lionsgate planning to give The Strangers: Chapter 1 a May 17th theatrical release. We’ve heard they’ll also be releasing The Strangers: Chapter 2 and The Strangers: Chapter 3 by the end of the year. Harlin has said The Strangers: Chapter 1 “is close to the original movie in its set-up of a young couple in an isolated environment in a house and a home invasion happening for random reasons.” Then Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 “explore what happens to the victims of this kind of violence and who the perpetrators are of this kind of violence. Where are they coming from and why?

Fluff your powdered wig and fill your snuffbox because a trailer for French filmmaker Maïwenn’s Jeanne Du Barry is here to give you a front-row seat to one of history’s most notorious scandals. The lavish footage depicts Johnny Depp as Louis XV and Maïwenn Besco as Jeanne Vaubernier, a woman willing to give a gloved middle finger to tradition to rise through society’s ranks. Decadent, scandalous, and filled with more drama than a season of Bridgerton, today’s Jeanne Du Barry trailer highlights Depp’s first significant feature since his public court battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard.

Here’s the official synopsis for Jeanne Du Barry:

Jeanne du Barry follows Jeanne Vaubernier (Maïwenn), a working-class woman determined to climb the social ladder, using her charms to escape her impoverished life. Her lover, the Comte du Barry (Melvil Poupaud), wishes to present her to King Louis XV (Johnny Depp) and orchestrates a meeting through the influential Duke of Richelieu (Pierre Richard). The encounter goes far beyond his expectations for it was love at first sight for the King and Jeanne. Through this ravishing courtesan, the king rediscovers his appetite for life and feels he can no longer live without her. Making Jeanne his last official mistress, scandal erupts as no one at Court will accept a girl from the streets into their rarified world.”

Maïwenn directs Jeanne Du Barry from a script she wrote with Teddy Lussi-Modeste and Nicolas Livecchi. Maïwenn and Depp lead the cast, with Benjamin Lavernhe as La Borde, Pierre Richard as Duc de Richelieu, Melvil Poupaud as Comte du Barry, and Pascal Greggory as Emmanuel-Armand de Vignerot du Plessis.

During his time, Louis XV reigned for 59 years, the longest in the history of France after that of Louis XIV. Though nicknamed “the beloved,” King Louis XV died as an unpopular ruler after being accused of corruption and debauchery. Depp has not appeared in a significant film since Andrew Levitas’s 2020 film Minamata.

Deadline previously reported that Maïwenn’s film is loosely inspired by the life of Jeanne Vaubernier, Louis XV’s last royal mistress at the Court of Versailles, after Madame de Pompadour. Left to the mercy of an uncaring society since birth, Jeanne du Barry defied the odds and struggled to survive on her way to becoming the object of Louis XV’s affection. Unaware of Jeanne du Barry’s status upon falling in love, Louis XV spit in the face of tradition to keep her close and rise through the ranks of society.

In addition to today’s Jeanne Du Barry trailer, Vertical and Fathom unveiled an official poster (shown below) for the upcoming period drama. Jeanne Du Barry walks with its head held high in theaters on May 2, 2024.
