Gutierrez-Reed

Things are looking even grimmer for Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer on troubled western Rust. As determined by a judge just one week out from her trial, Gutierrez-Reed will indeed stand before the court despite trying to get her involuntary manslaughter case – stemming from the tragic 2021 death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins – dismissed.

The judge (as per Deadline), stated, “I find that the communications are not materially prejudicial to the defendant…I’m denying the motion.” This will find Hannah Gutierrez-Reed standing trial beginning February 21st, with it expected to last until early the next month. Gutierrez-Reed is also facing charges of tampering with evidence. The armorer has a lot working against her at this point, no less that she reportedly showed up to work hung over, leading to negligence that prosecutors say had a direct part in the death of Hutchins. According to them, “Her reckless failure resulted in the senseless death of another human being…”

Alec Baldwin – who held the gun tied to Hutchins’ death – will also stand trial for manslaughter, although his date has not yet been set. He maintains that he is not guilty.

While those who have followed the incident closely will have to wait on Hannah Gutierrez-Reed’s verdict – which could find her facing up to three years behind bars – filming on Rust did wrap last spring. No release date has been announced.

If any positives can be found in the horrible ordeal, they all relate to the point that more attention must be paid to the safety of everybody on the set. Negligence can clearly lead to tragedy; sadly, as we know, the death of 42-year-old Halyna Hutchins is not the first time someone has been the victim on a movie set. Hopefully new changes regarding ammunition and cast/crew safety are strictly enforced in Hollywood and more names don’t join the list of those who have died from errors such as this.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed’s previous credits are Nicolas Cage western The Old Way and the now unfortunately titled Murder at Yellowstone City.

Do you think Rust armorer Gutierrez-Reed will be found guilty on her charges? How will it shape Alec Baldwin’s case?

Madame Web, box office, Bob Marley: One Love

You don’t have to be clairvoyant to know that Madame Web has been receiving some pretty savage reviews, and it turns out that the box office is equally unimpressive. The Marvel movie opened in theaters today, but it’s already getting destroyed by Bob Marley: One Love, the biopic of the iconic reggae musician.

Bob Marley: One Love is looking to pull in $12 million today, which is the best showing for a Valentine’s Day midweek release since Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams’ The Vow in 2012. As for Madame Web, the film is lagging way behind with only $5-$5.5 million. The six-day projections aren’t much better, with Bob Marley: One Love looking at $30 million and Madame Web looking at $20 million.

Madame Web stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, “a paramedic in Manhattan who develops the power to see the future… and realizes she can use that insight to change it. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women bound for powerful destinies…if they can all survive a deadly present.” The film is currently sitting at 17% on Rotten Tomatoes, which places it only two points above Sony’s last Marvel bomb: Morbius.

Our own Chris Bumbray reviewed Madame Web, which he called a “big mess.” It doesn’t seem as though this will be the franchise starter that Sony doubtlessly hoped it would be, as the “terrible, cornball dialogue and lacklustre pace” doom what would have been a “decent little B-side of a superhero film.” You can check out the rest of Bumbray’s review right here.

As for Bob Marley: One Love, the film “celebrates the life and music of an icon who inspired generations through his message of love and unity. On the big screen for the first time, discover Bob’s powerful story of overcoming adversity and the journey behind his revolutionary music.

While the film has been receiving better reviews than Madame Web, it seems to have fallen flat in certain aspects. “In the end, Bob Marley: One Love is an uneven film with some tremendous performances,” wrote our own Tyler Nichols in his review. “It ultimately doesn’t end up being anything other than a way to introduce a younger generation to a talented artist they may not be familiar with. But in terms of getting to understand the man behind it all? At this point, I’m not sure we’ll ever get that in movie form.” You can check out the rest of Nichols’ review right here.

Repo Man 2

Per Variety, Alex Cox is ready to return to the bizarre world of car repossession and extraterrestrials. The outlet reports that the director is set to helm Repo Man 2: The Wages of Beer, a long-belated sequel to the 1984 cult classic.

The original movie starred Emilio Estevez as Otto, a young punk who is recruited by a car repossession agency and finds himself in pursuit of a Chevrolet Malibu that is wanted for a $20,000 bounty – and has something otherworldly stashed in its trunk. The sequel will pick up “after Otto has boarded his trusty 1967 Chevy Malibu to journey across the infinities of time and space. In that time, he has aged exactly 90 minutes.” As Estevez is naturally a little too old to reprise the role, Kiowa Gordon has stepped in to play Otto in the sequel.

Gordon is best known for playing Embry Call in The Twilight Saga as well as starring alongside Zahn McClarnon n Dark Winds. Based on the Leaphorn & Chee novels by Tony Hillerman, Dark Winds takes place in the 1970s Southwest and follows two Navajo police officers, Leephorn (McClarnon) and Chee (Gordon). The series was renewed for a third season last year but isn’t expected to premiere until early 2025.

Repo Man 2 is being back by Buffalo 8 Productions, best known for Netflix’s The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes. In addition to directing the film, Cox also wrote the script. According to a statement, the filmmakers aim to “deliver an enthralling mix of punk energy, existential comedy, and unconventional storytelling, navigating the absurd and chaotic world of repo men into a new age of nuclear brinkmanship and driverless cars.” Buffalo 8’s head of production, Adam Harris Engelhard, added, “Growing up, ‘Repo Man’ was one of my favorite films, so to get an opportunity to work on the sequel with everyone involved is incredibly exciting.” Engelhard will also produce alongside Lorenzo O’Brien, Matthew Helderman, and Luke Taylor.

Repo Man did receive a sequel in the form of Waldo’s Hawaiian Holiday, a graphic novel based on a script by Cox. He also wrote and directed Repo Chick, a spiritual sequel released in 2009.

Joker: Folie a Deux, new images, Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga

It’s Valentine’s Day, and who better to spread a little love than Joker and Harley Quinn? Todd Phillips took to Instagram to share a few new images of Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga from Joker: Folie à Deux to celebrate the holiday. You can cycle through the three new photos below.

Joker: Folie à Deux features the return of Joaquin Phoenix as the title character. He’s joined by Lady Gaga, who is said to be playing Harley Quinn. The rest of the cast includes Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey. Zazie Beetz also returned to reprise her role as Sophie Dumond from the first movie, a love interest for Arthur. Last year, Beetz teased that the sequel won’t be what fans are expecting. “I think people will be surprised. I don’t think it’s going to be what they expect, around it being musical,” Zazie Beetz said. “We all sort of express musically and dancing in our lives day-to-day. I think it’s going to work really well.

The last of the three Joker: Folie à Deux images features Phoenix and Gaga dressed to the nines and having a romantic dance atop a building with a stylized background, likely part of one of the movie’s musical sequences. The first film was quite a box office success as it became the first R-rated movie to gross over $1 billion worldwide. The film won numerous awards, including the Academy Award for Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix. Anticipation for the Joker sequel is sky-high, but will it do as well as the first?

Plot details for the Joker sequel are being kept under wraps, but it’s been said that much of it will take place within Arkham Asylum, which is where we left Arthur in the last film. Joker: Folie à Deux will hit theaters on October 4th. Find out everything we know about the movie right here!

The fifth and final season of Star Trek: Discovery will find “Captain Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery uncovering a mystery that will send them on an epic adventure across the galaxy to find an ancient power whose very existence has been deliberately hidden for centuries. But there are others on the hunt as well…dangerous foes who are desperate to claim the prize for themselves and will stop at nothing to get it.” It’s been over two years since the release of the last season, so fans are likely hungry for this final adventure with the Discovery crew.

If you’re lucky enough to attend SXSW in Texas next month, you’ll be able to see the world premiere of the first episode ahead of everyone else, along with a panel discussion with showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise as well as stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Wilson Cruz, Mary Wiseman, David Ajala and Blu del Barrio. A featured session will also be held on March 12th, titled “Paramount+’s Star Trek Discovery: The Trailblazing Journey to the Fifth and Final Season.”

Road House, Jake Gyllenhaal, drama

The upcoming Road House remake looks to be one of Amazon’s biggest movies of the year, but according to Variety, there has been some major drama brewing behind the scenes for several years, all to do with whether to release the movie theatrically or on streaming.

Road House will debut on Prime Video next month, but the lack of a theatrical release has caused some acrimony. When director Doug Liman first signed on to direct the movie, Michael de Luca and Pam Abdy were in charge of MGM at the time, and the intention was that Road House would be developed for the big screen, but that all changed when Amazon acquired MGM for a cool $8.5 billion. De Luca and Abdy left for Warner Bros., but Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke took charge of Road House and was set to give it the green light… but there was one important choice to be made.

Sources told Variety that Amazon Studios presented Doug Liman and Jake Gyllenhaal with a choice: Make Road House with a $60 million budget for a theatrical release or get $85 million for an exclusive release on streaming. “They all took the money,” said one source.

Despite apparently agreeing to a streaming release, Doug Liman and producer Joel Silver were still trying to convince Amazon to let Road House go to theaters. The fight got so bad that Silver was ultimately fired from the production after allegations of verbal abuse, and sources told Variety that Ari Emanuel, CEO of WME parent company Endeavor, even contacted Salke to try to convince her to keep him on. It didn’t work.

Per the official logline: “In this adrenaline-fueled reimagining of the ’80s cult classic, ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Gyllenhaal) takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.” In addition to Gyllenhaal, Road House stars Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Joaquim De Almeida, and Conor McGregor.

Doug Liman has said that he will be boycotting the movie’s premiere at SXSW. Road House reportedly tested higher than any movie in Liman’s career, more than Mr. and Mrs. Smith and The Bourne Identity, and Liman feels that it could be a smash hit in theaters if Amazon would allow it. “Contrary to their public statements, Amazon has no interest in supporting cinemas,” Liman said. “Amazon will exclusively stream Road House on Amazon Prime. Amazon asked me and the film community to trust them and their public statements about supporting cinemas, and then they turned around and are using Road House to sell plumbing fixtures.

Road House will debut on Prime Video on March 21st in more than 240 territories worldwide.

A couple weeks ago, Universal unveiled a trailer for the Dev Patel-directed, Jordan Peele-produced action film Monkey Man, which is set to reach theatres on April 5th. You can check that trailer out in the embed above, and as JoBlo’s own Steve Seigh described it, it’s “a tour-de-force of hand-to-hand combat, Jackie Chan-like environmental manipulation, and visuals that pop with color, blood, and broken bones!” Today, the Motion Picture Association ratings board announced that they have given Monkey Man an R rating… and this announcement comes about four months after the previous time they gave the film an R rating.

The other time the MPA gave Monkey Man an R was on October 25th. At that time, the film was branded with an R for “strong bloody violence throughout, rape, language throughout, sexual content/nudity and drug use”. Today, they revealed that a new cut of the film is rated R for “strong bloody violence throughout, language throughout, sexual content/nudity and drug use”. As you can see, the only difference between the October rating and the February rating is the “rape” description, so it looks like a sexual assault scene has been cut out of the film sometime in the last four months. That could help it reach a wider audience, as a good number of movie-goers won’t watch something that has sexual assault in it.

Here’s the official synopsis: Monkey Man is an action thriller about one man’s quest for vengeance against the corrupt leaders who murdered his mother and continue to victimize the poor and powerless systemically. Inspired by the legend of Hanuman, an icon embodying strength and courage, Monkey Man stars Patel as Kid, an anonymous young man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash. After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him. Packed with thrilling and spectacular fight and chase scenes, Monkey Man is directed by Dev Patel from his original story and his screenplay with Paul Angunawela and John Collee (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World).

Patel is joined in the cast by Sharlto Copley (District 9The A-Team), Sobhita Dhulipala (Made in HeavenThe Night Manager), Pitobash (Million Dollar ArmGo Goa Gone), Vipin Sharma (Hotel MumbaiLike Stars on Earth), Ashwini Kalsekar (Ek Tha Hero), Adithi Kalkunte (Hotel Mumbai), Sikandar Kher (Aarya24) and Makarand Deshpande (RRR).

Patel and Peele produced the film alongside Jomon Thomas, Win Rosenfeld, Ian Cooper, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Christine Haebler, and Anjay Nagpal. Jonathan Fuhrman, Natalya Pavchinskya, Aaron L. Gilbert, Andria Spring, Alison-Jane Roney, and Steven Thibault serve as executive producers.

Andrew Keegan

Andrew Keegan was one of the many mid-tier teeny-bopper heartthrobs of the 1990s, with roles in Camp Nowhere, sitcom Thunder Alley and, near the end of his popularity in the decade, a smaller role in 10 Things I Hate About You, not to mention spots on quintessential ‘90s TV like Full House, Step by Step and Boy Meets World. The dude had his fans to be sure, but a cult following is taking it a little too far…

Andrew Keegan’s career shift was inevitable – you don’t stay a Tiger Beat cover boy forever – but when it was believed that he was leading a cult in his 30s, no one could have predicted that. On a recent episode of Pod Meets World, the gang asked Andrew Keegan about the rumors circulating that he had launched a cult in California in the mid-2010s. “You mean when I woke up one day and I was anointed a cult leader?”

Keegan maintains that what he founded – called Full Circle – wasn’t any such entity, instead labeling it a “community center.” On it, he said, “There was this interesting group of hippie types, if you will, in Venice. I’m sure if you went on the west side, there’s definitely a lot of spirituality…I was connected with some folks and we had this opportunity. This old Hare Krishna Temple, it was sitting there empty and we were like, ‘Why don’t we get some people together and let’s open this place up?’” One can’t help but think of the Boy Meets World episode in which Shawn Hunter joined “The Centre”, which was totally not a cult, either…

This endeavor would find Andrew Keegan and company shelling out tens of thousands of dollars to get the group going, even though it would shutter just three years later. Keegan admits that “Full Circle” may not have been the best name and that he could have done more to keep it open, but remembers the impact it had on others. “They just really created a very interesting, colorful story and put it together…We really just got together and did a Sunday thing. We did almost 1,000 events in three years and it was actually really hard. It was really beneficial to a lot of people, I still hear about it now, where people are like, ‘That was such a great time.’”

While Andrew Keegan continues to deny reports that Full Circle was a cult, he did joke that being called the leader of one is “kind of like a badge of honor.”

What do you make of Andrew Keegan’s dip into this scene? Do you think Full Circle was a cult? Give us your thoughts below!

However, when her two teenage sons find trouble with a dirty Boston cop and a crime ring, their American dream shatters. Ann taps into her wicked past to save her sons, summoning a woman no one expected to come knocking at their door.

Production kicks off this summer with 30West financing the film’s production. Laurent’s latest project will command attention at the upcoming EFM event. Michelle Yeoh is at the top of her game after dazzling everyone with her jaw-dropping performance in The Daniels’ Oscar-winning action-comedy Everything Everywhere All At Once. Anything she touches turns to gold lately, with The Brothers Sun being an absolute blast of action, comedy, and mixed martial arts. If you haven’t watched The Brothers Sun, I highly recommend it. I blazed through the first season in two sittings, and Yeoh’s performance as Eileen ‘Mama’ Sun is priceless.

A trailer for the Jon M. Chu-directed adaptation of Wicked dropped at the Super Bowl this past weekend. Michelle Yeoh plays Madame Morrible, the headmistress of Crage Hall at Shiz University, an institution of higher education in the city of Shiz in Gillikin, the northern province of Oz. The cast of Wicked includes Ariana Grande as Glinda, Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Bridgerton’s Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, and Ethan Slater as Boq, with Jeff Goldblum playing the Wizard of Oz. Chucky season 3 had to be split in half due to the writers and actors strikes, with the first four episodes (read our review HERE) airing on Syfy and USA Network (as well as the Peacock streaming service) back in October. Production resumed at the end of November – and now it has been announced that the second half of the season will begin airing on April 10th! The announcement was made via a social media video made to look like a text exchange between Chucky the killer doll and series cast member Devon Sawa, and you can watch that at the bottom of this article.

A follow-up to all of the Child’s Play movies (remake excluded), Chucky picks up where Cult of Chucky left off. Don Mancini, who has written every film in the franchise (except that remake) and directed a few of them, developed Chucky with producer David Kirschner. Mancini and Kirschner are executive producing Chucky with Harley Peyton, Alex Hedlund, and Nick Antosca. The first season had Chucky terrorizing Hackensack, New Jersey, then he was sent off to a Catholic boarding school for season 2. Now it’s D.C.’s turn to experience some Chucky trouble.

Here’s the season 3 synopsis: In Chucky’s unending thirst for power, season 3 now sees Chucky ensconced with the most powerful family in the world — America’s First Family, inside the infamous walls of the White House. How did Chucky wind up here? What in God’s name does he want? And how can Jake, Devon, and Lexy possibly get to Chucky inside the world’s most secure house, all while balancing the pressures of romantic relationships and growing up? Meanwhile, Tiffany faces a looming crisis of her own as the police close in on her for “Jennifer Tilly’s” murderous rampage last season.

The series stars Jennifer Tilly (as serial killer Tiffany Valentine, now inhabiting the body of actress Jennifer Tilly), Zackary Arthur (as Jake Wheeler), Alyvia Alyn Lind (as Lexy Cross), Fiona Dourif (as Nica Pierce), Björgvin Arnarson (as Devon Evans), Devon Sawa (as President James Collins), Alex Vincent (as Andy Barclay), Christine Elise (as Kyle), Jackson Kelly (as Grant Collins), Lara Jean Chorostecki (as Charlotte Collins), Carina Battrick (as Caroline Cross), and Brad Dourif (providing the voice of Chucky). A while back, it was announced that legendary filmmaker John Waters, who previously played Pete Peters, a tabloid photographer who got dissolved by acid in 2004’s Seed of Chucky, has been added to the cast of Chucky season 3, where he’ll be playing Wendell Wilkins, “the reclusive creator of the Good Guy dolls, who gets drawn into the psychopathic Chucky’s tangled web”.

Are you caught up on Chucky season 3, and will you be tuning in when the season resumes in April? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
