A24 is teaming up with Saint Maud (watch it HERE) director Rose Glass to bring us a movie called Love Lies Bleeding, which is described as being a romantic thriller that’s fueled by fueled by ego, desire, and the American dream. The film is set to reach theatres on March 8th, and with just one month to go before that date arrives, a new trailer has arrived online. You can watch it in the embed above.

Kristen Stewart (Spencer) stars in Love Lies Bleeding alongside Katy O’Brian (The Walking Dead), Dave Franco (The Disaster Artist), Ed Harris (The Rock), Jena Malone (Sucker Punch), and Anna Baryshnikov (Manchester by the Sea).

The screenplay written by Glass and Weronika Tofilska tells an electric new love story; reclusive gym manager Lou falls hard for Jackie, an ambitious bodybuilder headed through town to Vegas in pursuit of her dream. But their love ignites violence, pulling them deep into the web of Lou’s criminal family.

Film4 developed Love Lies Bleeding with the filmmakers and co-financed with A24. A24 is also producing the film with Andrea Cornwell of Lobo Films and Oliver Kassman of Escape Plan Productions.

Saint Maud was Glass’s feature directorial debut, and that film went over very well with viewers. It has a 93% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and our own reviewers Matt Rooney and The Iceman both gave it 9/10 reviews. You can read Matt’s review at THIS LINK and The Iceman’s review is over HERE. Love Lies Bleeding got a 7/10 review from JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray, and you can read that one at THIS LINK.

I still need to get around to seeing Saint Maud, but Love Lies Bleeding looks very interesting to me. I’m definitely going to be watching this movie, so maybe I should watch Saint Maud on the same day and have a Rose Glass double feature.

What did you think of the Love Lies Bleeding trailer? Are you looking forward to seeing this movie next month? Let us know by leaving a comment below… and while you’re scrolling down, take a look at these character posters:

The sci-fi horror A Quiet Place franchise is heading to New York with its latest entry, A Quiet Place: Day One, which is set to reach theatres on June 28th – and with that release date four months away, the first trailer for the film has arrived online! You can check it out in the embed above, then scroll down to the bottom of this article to see the first poster.

While John Krasinski directed the previous two films, he is producing A Quiet Place: Day One and has passed the helming duties over to Michael Sarnoski, director of the Nicolas Cage drama Pig (watch it HERE). Jeff Nichols (Midnight Special) was attached to write and direct A Quiet Place: Day One for a while, but when he dropped out he was replaced by Sarnoski. The story, which is credited to Krasinski and Sarnoski, does take place in the same world established in the first two movies, but doesn’t involve the Abbott family, the characters we followed through the first two movies.

Deadline’s sources said that after seeing Pig and being blown away by the film, Krasinski was quick to put Sarnoski on the short list of directors to take a meeting for the project. While insiders say Sarnoski’s vision for the film was still his own and different from what Krasinski had done with the first two, he still gave a pitch that fit the tone of the world they had created and felt he was the perfect fit for their next installment.

Krasinski is producing A Quiet Place: Day One under his Sunday Night banner, while Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller produce through their company Platinum Dunes. Krasinski’s Sunday Night partner Allyson Seeger serves as executive producer.

The film stars 12 Years a Slave Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, Alex Wolff of Hereditary and Pig, and Joseph Quinn, who is better known as Eddie Munson from the most recent season of Stranger Things. Djimon Hounsou, who played “Man on Island” in A Quiet Place: Part II, reprises that role here.

What did you think of the A Quiet Place: Day One trailer? Will you be catching this movie on the big screen? Take a look at the poster, then let us know by leaving a comment below.

stranger things, gaten matarazzo

After a long delay, Netflix’s immensely popular Stranger Things has gone into production for the last time. Millie Bobby Brown is treating this like “senior year” and is looking forward to the future, while executive producer and director Shawn Levy has been lining up projects like Deadpool 3 and a Star Wars movie. However, everyone involved also acknowledges the massive undertaking of ending such a cultural phenomenon as the show has been. Rumors have been flying about where the story of this final season may go and who might die.

One of the stars who grew up on the show, Gaten Matarazzo, recently made an appearance at Mega Con Orlando. According to Deadline, CBR reports that while he spoke at a panel, Matarazzo was inquired about what he would personally like to have seen more on the series. He replied that he would have intensified the show’s suspense as he said, “It might sound messed up but we should kill more people. This show would be so much better if the stakes were much higher, like at any moment, any of these kids can kick it. I feel like we’re all too safe.”

This sentiment is not lost on the rest of the cast either, as Maya Hawke stated long ago that she would love to see her character go out in a blaze of glory. Hawke stated that she could see her Robin Buckley character making a sacrifice, “I would love to die and get my hero’s moment. I’d love to die with honor, as any actor would. But I love the way that the Duffer Brothers love their actors. The reason that they write so beautifully for me and for everyone else is because they fall in love with their actors and their characters, and they don’t want to kill them. I think that’s a beautiful quality that they have, and I wouldn’t wish it away.”

Although Matarazzo thinks more deaths could add more edge, Levy would have to contend with many fans who are clamoring for a return of a departed favorite, Eddie Munson. Levy considered the audience’s response but ultimately decided, at least for now, that season five would not include Eddie in some way. Levy stated, “[Laughs] Oh boy, a lot of people – a lot of people – can’t even handle the thought of a Season 5 without some excuse for Eddie presence. Highly unlikely. Highly unlikely. But we hear you, world. We know. You’re obsessed with Eddie. So were we.”

Kumail Nanjiani Eternals

When Eternals was released in the fall of 2021, it marked an all-time low Rotten Tomatoes score for the MCU. Having just come off of a 79% for Black Widow and a  92% for Shang-Chi to lead both Phase Four and the Multiverse Saga, Eternals earned the first-ever “rotten” score for the Marvel Cinematic Universe: a 47%. It was a shock to the franchise’s system but it may have had a far greater impact on star Kumail Nanjiani, who continues to bring up Eternals at therapy.

Speaking on Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum (via The Hollywood Reporter), Kumail Nanjiani admitted that he allowed himself to feed into the negative reception of Eternals, saying, “The reviews were bad, and I was too aware of it…I was reading every review and checking too much…It was really, really hard because Marvel thought that movie was going to be really, really well reviewed, so they lifted the embargo early and put it in some fancy movie festivals and they sent us on a big global tour to promote the movie right as the embargo lifted.”

It seems that Kumail Nanjiani thinks Eternals was a dud partly because of this move, adding, “I think there was some weird soup in the atmosphere for why that movie got slammed so much, and I think not much of it has to do with the actual quality of the movie…” One can see just how this proved to be a mistake on Marvel’s part, and Eternals would gross just under $165 million domestically, a paltry number at least compared to what the studio was used to. It may have also been a signal that Marvel would have some major hurdles to get over in the post-Thanos universe.

Despite its poor critical reception – on top of the RT score, we gave it a 6/10Eternals does hold a much stronger audience score of 77%, showing the continued support of the franchise’s fanbase…and perhaps an interest in Kumail Nanjiani’s physique.

Even if Eternals didn’t land like he wanted, Kumail Nanjiani has remained steadily busy in between his therapy sessions, with works ranging from a stint on Obi-Wan Kenobi to leading miniseries Welcome to Chippendales to voicing in Illumination’s Migrations to next month’s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

What do you think of Kumail Nanjiani’s reaction to Eternals’ reception? Did you like the movie when it came out? Let us know!

rob liefeld deadpool

Rob Liefeld, who co-created Deadpool, will officially retire from the character, announcing on social media that his days leading the Merc with a Mouth are coming to a close.

Taking to X earlier this week, Rob Liefeld wrote, “I am retiring from Deadpool. It’s official. Yup, after 33 years of not only introducing Deadpool but chronicling many of his most popular adventures it’s time for the Deadpool Daddy to say farewell. One of the fun parts about getting older is you can retire from things, so here I am.”

So where does that leave Deadpool? As far as Rob Liefeld’s involvement, his final installment will arrive this summer. But Liefeld didn’t intend on drying out his ink at the age of 56, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “About 10 years ago, I really felt like I was in a groove, and in my mind, I was going to do this till I was 70…But the eyes and the hands, and the aches and the pains — they have a different timetable, I’ve learned as I’ve gotten older. The last year’s worth of work was the hardest to produce.” While Liefeld has had some feuds and choice words for studios within the comic book industry, fans should take note of just why he is stepping away, at least as he tells it.

As far as this final edition of Deadpool goes, Rob Liefeld noted that this “last grind” is “trust me, it’s a wild one, and call it a collaboration for the ages. It’ll be fun!” After noting some of his achievements throughout the years, Liefeld also wrote, “In 2015 I started Deadpool:Bad Blood, getting Deadpool his first original graphic novel, and his only chart topping, #1 ranking to date, an achievement that got me a round of congratulations from Marvel brass that pumped my chest out farther than Captain America’s! No other auteur has combined to write and illustrate more Deadpool work, I’ll complete this journey with over 1000 pages alongside my Mercenary Misfit.” No doubt Rob Liefeld’s contributions – which also include creating Cable and Avengelyne – can’t go unnoticed.

Details on Rob Liefeld’s final Deadpool work have yet to be unveiled, but we can expect it to arrive sometime around the release of Deadpool 3, which comes out on July 26th. How meta would it have been if Deadpool killed off his creator in the final act?

Henry Cavill, sex scenes, The Witcher

Sex scenes in movies and television have come under fire more often recently, and it turns out that you can count Henry Cavill among those who aren’t a fan of them.

Henry Cavill appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast alongside Argylle director Matthew Vaughn, where he admitted that he feels sex scenes should be left to our imaginations.

I don’t understand them, I’m not a fan,” Cavill said. “I think there are circumstances where a sex scene actually is beneficial to a movie, rather than just the audience, but I think sometimes they’re overused these days. It’s when you have a sense where you’re going, ‘Is this really necessary or is it just people with less clothing on?’ And that’s when you start to get more uncomfortable and you’re thinking, ‘There’s not a performance here, there’s not a piece which is going to carry through to the rest of the movie.’

Cavill noted that “sex scenes can be great in a movie and can really help with the storytelling,” but that “most of the time the human imagination is going to trump it. So it can be a little bit of a cop out if a TV show or a movie is just filled with gyrating bodies and you’re going, ‘Okay, but what is this doing for us apart from the idea of, ‘oh naked person, great.’

Henry Cavill can currently be seen starring in Argylle, which stars Bryce Dallas Howard as Elly Conway, a reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels whose idea of bliss is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie. But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books — which center on secret agent Argylle (Cavill) and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate — begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past. Sam Rockwell also stars as Aiden, a cat-allergic spy who races across the world to stay one step ahead of the killers as the line between Elly’s fictional world and her real one begins to blur. Argylle is now playing in theaters, so be sure to check out a review from our own Chris Bumbray right here.

Do you agree with Henry Cavill? Are sex scenes largely unnecessary in most movies and TV shows these days?

The Terror, season 3

It’s been five years since the last installment of The Terror, but season 3 is finally on the way.

AMC has ordered The Terror: Devil in Silver, a six-part series based on the novel written by Victor LaValle. The story follows Pepper, “a working-class moving man who, through a combination of bad luck and a bad temper, finds himself wrongfully committed to New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital – an institution filled with the people society would rather forget. There, he must contend with patients who work against him, doctors who harbor grim secrets and perhaps even the very devil himself. As Pepper navigates a hellscape where nothing is as it seems, he finds that the only path to freedom is to face down the entity that thrives on the suffering within New Hyde’s walls. But doing so might prove that the worst demons of all live inside him.

The first season of The Terror debuted in 2018 and dealt with two ships embarking on a perilous voyage into uncharted territory in the 1840s to discover the Northwest Passage. After becoming trapped in the ice, the frozen and isolated crew find themselves faced with treacherous conditions, limited resources, and a deadly unseen terror stalking them. The second season, The Terror: Infamy, was set during World War II and centered on a series of bizarre deaths that haunt a Japanese-American community.

Victor LaValle will write The Terror season 3 alongside Chris Cantwell (Halt and Catch Fire), with Karyn Kusama (Yellowjackets) directing the first two episodes and executive producing alongside LaValle, Cantwell, David Zucker, Alexandra Milchan, Guymon Casady, and Scott Lambert. AMC was considering a third season back in 2020, but I think fans believed the series was dead when they didn’t hear anything else.

The Terror anthology series has already delivered to fans two unforgettable seasons of storytelling that blend real-world events and characters with a terrifying and mysterious supernatural element,” said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks. “The Devil in Silver offers a perfect opportunity for a new installment of this popular and critically acclaimed anthology. We are looking forward to once again working with Chris Cantwell, who we partnered with so successfully on Halt and Catch Fire, Victor LaValle, Karyn Kusama and this great producing team to share our version of Victor’s heralded and disturbing novel.

Megalopolis, first look image, Francis Ford Coppola

Francis Ford Coppola has been hard at work on Megalopolis, his sci-fi epic that has been decades in the making. The director took to Instagram to unveil the first look at Megalopolis, which shows a dingy, rain-soaked alley with a collapsed statue in the center. The image features the title “Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis.”

It’s not much, but the first look at Megalopolis does potentially show that the project is on track to be released later this year. Plot details have largely been kept under wraps, but the film is said to center on an architect who seeks to rebuild New York City as a utopia after a disaster. The director did offer a few more details two years ago, but they’re fairly ambiguous.

It’s a love story…A woman is divided between loyalties to two men. But not only two men. Each man comes with a philosophical principle. One is her father who raised her, who taught her Latin on his lap and is devoted to a much more classical view of society, the Marcus Aurelius kind of view,” Coppola explained. “The other one, who is the lover, is the enemy of the father but is dedicated to a much more progressive ‘Let’s leap into the future, let’s leap over all of this garbage that has contaminated humanity for 10,000 years. Let’s find what we really are, which are an enlightened, friendly, joyous species.’

The film also boasts quite a star-studded ensemble cast, which features Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Giancarlo Esposito, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Chloe Fineman, Kathryn Hunter, Dustin Hoffman, DB Sweeney, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Bailey Ives, Grace Vanderwaal, and James Remar.

Francis Ford Coppola began writing Megalopolis in the 1980s but recognized that it would require a huge budget to match its massive scope, so it sat on a shelf for decades. Once production finally kicked off, there were reports that the budget had grown out of control, which Coppola denied. “I’ve never worked on a film where I was so happy with the cast,” Coppola said. “I am so happy with the look and that we are so on schedule. These reports never say who these sources are. To them, I say, ha, ha, just wait and see. Because this is a beautiful film and primarily so because the cast is so great. I’ve never enjoyed working with a cast who are so hardworking and so willing to go search for the unconventional, to come upon hidden solutions. It is a thrill to work with these actors and the photography is everything I could hope for. The dailies are great. So if we’re on schedule, and I love the actors and the look is great, I don’t know what anyone’s talking about here.

Afterburn, Dave Bautista, Samuel L. Jackson

Deadline reports that Dave Bautista will star in Afterburn alongside Samuel. L Jackson. The project is a sci-fi action movie based on the graphic novel series of the same name written by Scott Chitwood & Paul Ens and illustrated by Wayne Nichols.

Afterburn takes place in a post-apocalyptic world ten years after a solar flare has wiped out technology across the globe. Dave Bautista will play Jake, an ex-soldier who “works as a treasure hunter recovering valuable objects from the old world for powerful clients. His latest mission is to team up with freedom fighter Drea to recover the Mona Lisa before an unhinged warlord gets there first.” Samuel L. Jackson will play a freedom fighter by the name of Valentine. The film will be directed by J.J. Perry, who made his feature directorial debut with Day Shift, an action comedy starring Jamie Foxx, Dave Franco, and Snoop Dogg released on Netflix in 2022.

Neal H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe will produce for Original Films, with Steve Richards also producing for Endurance Media and Dave Bautista through Dogbone Entertainment. The producers have been trying to get this project off the ground for the last six years.

Black Bear’s Josh Friedberg, who is handling international sales for the movie, added, “The combination of Dave Bautista and Sam Jackson in an epic adventure is a sure-fire proposition for the international marketplace” added Black Bear’s Friedberg, “With an action master like J.J. at the helm, and incredible producers in Steve, Neal and Toby, this is going to be a spectacular cinematic event.” Production is expected to kick off in April in Europe, so we should hear some more casting news soon.

Samuel L. Jackson was most recently seen in Argylle, which is now playing in theaters, while Dave Bautista will next be seen in Dune: Part Two, which is slated to hit theaters on March 1st.

Four years ago, actor Dave Franco made his feature directorial debut with the horror film The Rental, which happened to star his wife Alison Brie. Now Deadline reports that Franco and Brie are set to share the screen in the upcoming horror film Together, which they will also be producing, with first-time feature filmmaker Michael Shanks writing and directing.

Tango, Picturestart, and 30West are providing the financing, while Picturestart, Tango, 1.21, and Princess Pictures produce alongside Franco and Brie.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Deadline was able to learn that Together is about “the horror of co-dependency, told in a unique way.” Of course, they’re not ready to tell us just how the film will be approaching this subject matter in a unique way.

Franco and Brie clearly love working together. In addition to The Rental, they’ve also co-starred in The Little Hours, The Disaster Artist (which was directed by Dave’s brother James Franco), and Horse Girl (which Brie co-wrote). Franco and Brie also collaborated on the screenplay for his second directorial effort, Somebody I Used to Know, which Brie starred in.

Since we don’t know much about Together yet, this is a good time to remind everyone that The Rental was a pretty solid horror movie. (You can read our review of that one HERE.) Written by Franco and Joe Swanberg, the film told the following story: Two couples looking to celebrate their seed money from a new business venture, embark on a weekend getaway to a seemingly perfect house they’ve booked online. But what begins as a festive weekend for the four close friends turns into something far more sinister as secrets they’ve kept from each other are exposed and paranoia grows that they may not be alone. Brie was joined in the cast by Jeremy Allen White, Toby Huss, Sheila Vand, and Dan Stevens.

I’m sure Together will be quite different from The Rental, but if it’s as good as The Rental, it’s something to look forward to.

How does Together sound to you? Are you a fan of Dave Franco and Alison Brie? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
