Season 3 of the Chucky TV series (read our review HERE) had to be split in half due to the writers and actors strikes, but production recently resumed, and the remaining episodes of the season will be airing on Syfy and USA Network (and reaching the Peacock streaming service) later this year. While we wait to see what the rest of Chucky season 3 has in store for us, franchise creator Don Mancini has confirmed that he’s considering sending Chucky to space simply because fans keep asking him about the possibility.

The idea of Chucky going to space, following in the footsteps of fellow genre stars like Jason Voorhees, Pinhead, and Leprechaun, has been bouncing around for years. Back in 2017, Mancini told The Movie Crypt podcast hosts Adam Green and Joe Lynch (after the expectation of Chucky going to space was brought up to him), “I have an idea for Chucky in Space. You know how sometimes, like, kids will present a space shuttle crew with some, like, totemic experiment or mascot or whatever? Chucky…” He got sidetracked at that point, but four years later he talked about the idea again, telling ComicBook.com, “I think one of the great things about Chucky is that he’s such a versatile character and we’ve found that he operates successfully in all kinds of different tones and sub-genres, whether it’s horror, or comedy, places in between. So I think as a character he’s versatile enough and appealing enough and interesting enough that he could probably go anywhere, even into outer space. Which is the one thing – I think once I jokingly said something about sending Chucky into space, although I do think it would be a fun movie. … I think ‘X Goes to Space’ is usually a barometer for jumping the shark. But I mean, who wouldn’t want to see Chucky in a little space suit with a helmet, sort of like floating?

Now, while catching up with Mancini at the Saturn Awards, Screen Rant took the opportunity to ask if we’re ever going to see Chucky go to space. Mancini responded, “Everyone’s asking me that question! So, MY question is, ‘Do you want him to go to space?’ Do you personally want him to go? If there’s enough of a demand for that, eventually – I don’t know how quickly – I have an idea for that.

So it sounds like Mancini is getting asked about “Chucky in Space” quite often, and every time the subject comes up, the closer the idea gets to becoming a reality. Would you like to see Chucky go to space? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

I say Mancini should go for it. Why not? Chucky bouncing around in space wouldn’t even come close to being the strangest thing we’ve seen from this franchise.

Toby Keith

Toby Keith, the musician who helped bring country music to new heights in the 1990s and beyond, has passed away after a battle with cancer. He was 62.

In a statement posted to social media, his family wrote, “Toby Keith passed away peacefully last night on February 5th, surrounded by his family. He fought his fight with grace and courage. Please respect the privacy of his family at this time.”

Toby Keith announced his stomach cancer diagnosis in 2022, writing, “Last fall I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. I’ve spent the last 6 months receiving chemo, radiation and surgery. So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax. I am looking forward to spending this time with my family. But I will see the fans sooner than later. I can’t wait.”

Through songs like “Should’ve Been a Cowboy”, “Wish I Didn’t Know Now” and “How Do You Like Me Now?!”, Toby Keith marked himself as one of the biggest names in modern country. This only built into the next century, with Keith hitting on his target demographic through songs like the post-9/11 anthem “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)”, the Willie Nelson collaboration “Beer for My Horses” and “As Good as I Once Was.” “Beer for My Horses” would inspire a 2008 movie of the same name.

In addition to climbing the charts to prove himself as one of the premiere country artists, Toby Keith would also go on to win a pair of Country Music Awards, a surprisingly low number considering. He would also garner seven Grammy Award nominations and a dozen ACMS, including the Merle Haggard Spirit Award in 2021. Last year he won the Country Icon Award at the People’s Choice Awards. Toby Keith sold more than 40 million albums throughout his career, making him one of the best-selling country artists ever, up there with the likes of Shania Twain, Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney.

According to setlist.fm, Toby Keith’s last concert was in December.

Leave your condolences for the late Toby Keith in the comments section below, along with your favorite song of his.

Northern Exposure, streaming, Prime Video

In the age of streaming, we’ve come to expect that every movie and TV series must be streaming somewhere; Of course, that’s not always the case as one beloved ’90s TV show just made its streaming debut for the first time ever. All six seasons of Northern Exposure are now streaming on Prime Video, marking the first time the series has streamed on any platform.

Northern Exposure starred Rob Morrow as Joel Fleischman, a recently graduated New York City physician who is sent to practice in Anchorage, Alaska, for several years to repay the state of Alaska for underwriting his medical education. He’s assigned to the remote town of Cicely, occupied by a variety of quirky and eccentric characters. The ensemble cast included Barry Corbin, Janine Turner, John Cullum, Cynthia Geary, John Corbett, Darren E. Burrows, Peg Phillips, Eliane Miles, Paul Provenza, and Teri Polo.

Morrow wound up leaving Northern Exposure midway through the sixth and final season after spending several years lobbying for an improved contract. The producers had reduced his character’s role in storylines and introduced other characters to attempt to compensate.

The much-beloved series was created by Joshua Brand and John Falsey and ran on CBS from 1990-95. It picked up 29 Emmy nominations during its run, winning seven, including Outstanding Drama Series. Although this marks the first time Northern Exposure has been available for streaming, the series has been released on DVD and is also available for digital purchase on a variety of platforms.

Although I’m aware of its existence, Northern Exposure is a series I’ve never gotten around to watching. In fact, the only memory I do have of the series is seeing the complete season DVDs dressed up in mini-parka jackets. That was a strange time, so many DVD releases dressed up in jackets.

Will you be checking out Northern Exposure on Prime Video now that it’s available for streaming?

Deadpool 3, Super Bowl, commercial

The upcoming Super Bowl LVIII will pit the San Francisco 49ers against the Kansas City Chiefs, but even if you’re not a sports fan, the big game still offers something of interest — movie trailers. The Super Bowl will see the debut of plenty of trailers, and while nothing has been confirmed, it’s expected that we’ll see our first look at Deadpool 3.

Variety has a rundown of all the trailers that may debut at the Super Bowl, but Deadpool 3 is likely to be the most anticipated. In addition to the Deadpool sequel, Disney could also drop looks at Inside Out 2 and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

Shifting over to Paramount, it seems that they will have the biggest presence during the game with spots for A Quiet Place: Day One, Bob Marley: One Love, IF, the Sonic the Hedgehog TV spinoff featuring Knuckles, The Tiger’s Apprentice, and the next season of Sylvester Stallone’s The Family Stallone. They will also be pushing the Paramount+ streaming service very hard.

As for Universal, it’s also expected that the first look at Jon M. Chu’s adaptation of Wicked will drop, along with The Fall Guy, Kung Fu Panda 4, and Twisters. Warner Bros., Sony, Netflix, and Amazon aren’t expected to run any ads during the game. These spots aren’t cheap, with a thirty-second ad during the first quarter going for $7 million this year. That’s not exactly peanuts.

Deadpool 3 recently wrapped production, with the sequel seeing the return of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, and Rob Delaney as Peter. Deadpool 3 will also star Emma Corrin, who is expected to play the villain, and Matthew Macfadyen in an undisclosed role. Of course, the biggest addition to the Deadpool 3 cast is Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, who finally broke down after being pestered by Ryan Reynolds for so many years. Deadpool 3 will hit theaters on July 26th.

Jurassic World, David Leitch

According to Deadline, The Fall Guy director David Leitch is in early negotiations to direct the recently announced Jurassic World movie. The project is slated to be released on July 2, 2025.

The new Jurassic World movie will relaunch the franchise with a fresh take, which means that neither Chris Pratt nor Bryce Dallas Howard are expected to return. The original trilogy group consisting of Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill, and Laura Dern isn’t likely to be back either. However, there will be a blast from the past behind the scenes as original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp has signed on to pen the script. Snagging a seasoned action director like David Leitch would be quite the score for the Jurassic World franchise, and I would love to see him tackle some hardcore dinosaur action… that sounded better in my head.

Although Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World: Dominion didn’t receive the best reviews upon release, they did quite well at the box office, earning $1.3 billion and $1 billion, respectively. Universal clearly believes that there’s plenty of juice left in the franchise.

Even before the release of Jurassic World: Dominion, franchise producer Frank Marshall was already keen on continuing the series. “[Dominion] is going to wrap up this [Jurassic World] trilogy, but we’re not resting on our laurels,” Marshall said. “We’re going to sit down, and we’re going to see what the future is. We have that wonderful series, Camp Cretaceous, on Netflix. We obviously want to make quality, good movies with great storytelling, great writers and directors, but we’re definitely looking to do more in the Jurassic world.

David Leitch’s next project is a big-screen reimagining of the iconic ’80s TV series The Fall Guy. Ryan Gosling stars as Colt Seavers, “a battle-scarred stuntman who, having left the business a year earlier to focus on both his physical and mental health, is drafted back into service when the star of a mega-budget studio movie—being directed by his ex, Jody Moreno. While the film’s ruthless producer, maneuvers to keep the disappearance of star Tom Ryder a secret from the studio and the media, Colt performs the film’s most outrageous stunts while trying (with limited success) to charm his way back into Jody’s good graces. But as the mystery around the missing star deepens, Colt will find himself ensnared in a sinister, criminal plot that will push him to the edge of a fall more dangerous than any stunt.” The film will hit theaters on May 3rd.

What do you think about David Leitch directing the new Jurassic World movie?

Josh Brolin, Thanos, Marvel

The Marvel Cinematic Universe introduced Thanos (Josh Brolin) at the very end of The Avengers, and little by little, the Mad Titan’s grand plan was revealed as the Marvel heroes united to stop him, with Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) finally snapping him and his armies into dust at the end of Avengers: Endgame. For many, Thanos remains the best MCU villain, so it’s only natural that the character could return to the franchise.

While speaking with ComicBook.com, Josh Brolin teased that he’s heard Thanos could be returning to the MCU. “You know, I hear kind of like through the grapevine, that they’re gonna bring him back,” Brolin said. “And there’s the What If…? series and that’s a different kind of Thanos and all that. But I don’t know in the Marvel world whether they’re going to bring him back, but I didn’t know that he was the most killed-off Marvel villain… You learn something new every day.

Following his death in Avengers: Endgame, Thanos did pop up in several episodes of What If…? with Brolin voicing the character, as well as making a brief appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. As for which Marvel project could feature the return of Thanos, it’s too early to say, but I could certainly imagine him showing up in Avengers 5 (formerly Avengers: The Kang Dynasty) and/or Avengers: Secret Wars.

Josh Brolin will next be seen reprising his role of Gurney Halleck in Dune: Part Two. The much-anticipated sequel will “explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a path of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.” The film will hit theaters on March 1st, but audiences will get a sneak peek with the upcoming re-release of Christopher Nolan’s Tenet.

What do you think? Would you like to see Josh Brolin return as Thanos or should Marvel put the character to rest?

Nearly two years have gone by since we heard that production had wrapped on Cuckoo, a new horror film from writer/director Tilman Singer that stars Hunter Schafer (Euphoria), Dan Stevens (The Guest), Jessica Henwick (Love and Monsters), Marton Csókás (Freelance), Greta Fernández (Santo), and Jan Bluthardt (Tatort). Now we finally know when the movie is going to be making its way out into the world: Neon has announced that they’ll be giving Cuckoo a theatrical release on May 3rd.

At one point, it was announced that Gemma Chan (Eternals), Sofia Boutella (The Mummy 2017), Zita Hanrot (Love, Death & Robots), Proschat Madani (Walking on Sunshine), and John Malkovich (Being John Malkovich) would be in the movie as well, but it looks like most of them had to drop out of the project before filming began.

Details on Cuckoo are being kept under wraps. This is the second feature for Singer, following the 2018 supernatural horror film Luz, which Bluthardt had a role in. Luz told the story of “a young cab driver fleeing from the grasp of a possessed woman, whose confession could endanger the lives of everyone who crosses her path.”

Several of Singer’s Luz collaborators joined him on Cuckoo. In addition to Bluthardt, also returning from Luz were cinematographer Paul Faltz, composer Simon Waskow, and production designer Dario Mendez Acosta.

Cuckoo was financed by Neon. The film is being produced by Markus Halberschmidt, Josh Rosenbaum, Maria Tsigka, Ken Kao, Thor Bradwell, Ben Rimmer, in a cooperation between Germany’s Fiction Park and the States’ Waypoint Entertainment. It’s executive produced by Tom Quinn, Jeff Deutchman, Emily Thomas, and Ryan Friscia for Neon. Additional funding came from the Film und Medien Stiftung NRW, HessenFilm, and the German Federal Film Fund.

A first look image showing Schafer’s character can be seen at the bottom of this article.

Are you interested in Cuckoo, and does this seem like something you would want to check out during its May theatrical release? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

I’m interested because of the cast (I haven’t seen Luz yet), but I’m also hoping we’ll have more information to go on soon.

Renner Marvel

Can Hawkeye get the Avengers to assemble again? Jeremy Renner – who first entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2011 – would absolutely get the superheroes back together if the opportunity came up. But it’s just not because he loves making the movies; it’s because of his co-stars’ loyalty.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Jeremy Renner said you don’t have to expect his Marvel days to be over. “I’m always game. I’m gonna be strong enough, that’s for sure. I’ll be ready. All those guys come to my bedside and they’ve been with me all along through this recovery, so…if they want me, they could have me. It would be something.” A number of Renner’s Marvel co-stars showed their unrelenting support in the aftermath, with the likes of Chris Evans, Scarlett Johannson and Anthony Mackie visiting him in the hospital after his January 1st, 2023 accident which left him with 30 broken bones and blunt chest trauma.

Jeremy Renner’s recovery has been well-documented, with the actor showing the sort of resilience, determination and willpower that fits the mold of Marvel heroes. At this point, Renner says he is doing  90% of what he should be, adding he is focused on constant rehabilitation, “It’s a one-way street, this recovery. The rest of my life is about health and wellness. Recovery will be part of the rest of my life, so I look forward to it, man. There’s always something to do to get better, be stronger, be happier, be healthier, and that’s what I look forward to.”

While Renner is on board to rejoin the Avengers for more Marvel outings – and there were some rumblings of bringing them back following the Jonathan Majors fallout – fellow co-stars have either expressed skepticism (Johannson) or have been left in the dark (Evans). And then there’s Robert Downey Jr., who Kevin Feige says won’t be returning as Tony Stark. But perhaps if Hawkeye steps up, it might push them in the desired direction?

Would you want Jeremy Renner to get the Avengers back together for another Marvel outing? Or should he concentrate on other projects? Give us your thoughts below!

Coming our way from director Zelda Williams (making her feature directorial debut) and screenwriter Diablo Cody, the horror comedy Lisa Frankenstein is set to receive a theatrical release this Friday, February 9th, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Earlier today, we shared our interviews with Williams, Cody, and stars Kathryn Newton (Freaky) and Cole Sprouse (Riverdale), and now we’ve got a clip from the film to share as well. You can check it out in the embed above and see Newton’s character tell a corpse, played by Sprouse, about The Cure.

Set in 1989, Lisa Frankenstein has the following synopsis: A coming of RAGE love story from acclaimed writer Diablo Cody about a misunderstood teenager and her high school crush, who happens to be a handsome corpse. After a set of playfully horrific circumstances bring him back to life, the two embark on a murderous journey to find love, happiness… and a few missing body parts along the way.

Newton and Sprouse are joined in the cast by Carla Gugino (Gerald’s Game), Liza Soberano (Alone/Together), Joe Chrest (Stranger Things), and Henry Eikenberry (The Crowded Room). Newton is playing Lisa Frankenstein, Sprouse is the handsome Victorian corpse, and Chrest will be playing Lisa’s father Dale. Soberano’s character is named Taffy and Gugino is playing Janet.

Cody produced Lisa Frankenstein with Mason Novick. A press release notes that they have previously collaborated on films including Tully, Young Adult, Jennifer’s Body, and Juno, which earned Cody an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. Jeff Lampert serves as executive producer, while Focus Features’ Vice President of Production and Development, Michelle Momplaisir, was the creative executive on the project. Focus Features will distribute the film in the United States, and Universal Pictures International is the international distributor. Filming took place in New Orleans.

Williams previously directed a horror comedy short called Kappa Kappa Die (which was scripted by Piranha 3D and Saw X writers Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg).

Avatar, James Cameron, Na'vi, Avatar 6, Avatar 7

With only two films in James Cameron’s Avatar series since 2009, it is challenging to imagine the existence of five installments by 2031, let alone two more movies later. That’s right, folks. I said two more movies! According to James Cameron, he has ideas for Avatar 6 and Avatar 7, but there’s a twist. Instead of dedicating the remainder of his mortality to the effects-driven, money-printing franchise, he could pass the torch to another filmmaker.

Speaking with Collider about the Avatar franchise’s future, Cameron said, “We’re fully written through movie five, and I’ve got ideas for six and seven, although I’ll probably be handing the baton on at that point,” he said. “I mean, mortality catches up. But I mean, we’re enjoying what we’re doing. We’re loving it. We get to work with great people.”

Mine some coal for the fires of speculation, folks, because the question of who could replace Cameron on the Avatar franchise is officially burning bright. Who would Cameron trust with the keys to his kingdom? Think about the Avatar lore, the technology associated with making the franchise’s eye-popping effects, and seemingly endless product tie-ins. It’s a tremendous amount of responsibility. The crash course Cameron would need to prep already has my head spinning.

Meanwhile, Avatar 3 is in post-production, with a projected 2025 theatrical release date. The third chapter of the sci-fi film series stars Sam Worthington as Jake Sully, Zoë Saldaña as Neytiri, Sigourney Weaver as Kiri, Stephen Lang as Colonel Miles Quaritch, Giovanni Ribisi as Parker Selfridge, Kate Winslet as Ronal, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss as Tuk, Cliff Curtis as Tonowari, Joel David Moore as Dr. Norm Spellman, Britain Dalton as Lo’ak, Edie Falco as General Frances Ardmore, Jack Champion as Spider, and Jemaine Clement as Dr. Ian Garvin.

Regarding the forthcoming sequel with Variety in January 2023, Cameron said Avatar 3 introduces fans to a new clan living in Pandora called the “Ash People.” Cameron is particularly excited about the next chapter because it will explore “different cultures from those I have already shown. The fire will be represented by the ‘Ash People.’ I want to show the Na’vi from another angle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides.”

Elaborating on his plan for the third film, Cameron added, “In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na’vi examples. In Avatar 3, we will do the opposite. We will also explore new worlds, while continuing the story of the main characters. I can say that the last parts will be the best. The others were an introduction, a way to set the table before serving the meal.”

While I’m not 100% committed to the world of Avatar, I admire Cameron’s passion for the concept, and the technology associated with the franchise is second to none. It should be interesting to see how the Avatar franchise evolves and who will take the series over when Cameron inevitably retires.

Who could take the Avatar helm from James Cameron? A seasoned veteran? A filmmaker we’ve yet to meet? The possibilities are endless. Let us know if you have any suggestions in the comments section below.
