Neon has done a great job of promoting the upcoming horror film Longlegs while also keeping the story’s secrets concealed. Although multiple teaser trailers and posters have made their way online, we still don’t know a whole lot about this movie, beyond the fact that it’s scheduled to reach theatres on July 12th. But if you want to know exactly how much we do know about it, just keep scrolling down, because we have compiled a list of Everything We Know About Longlegs.

DIRECTOR

Longlegs, which is said to be “in the vein of classic Hollywood psychological thrillers”, is the latest genre project from director Osgood Perkins – who, yes, is the son of actor Anthony Perkins, best remembered for his performance as Norman Bates in the Alfred Hitchcock classic Psycho. The younger Perkins has been building a solid career of his own, though, with his previous directorial efforts including the films The Blackcoat’s Daughter (a.k.a. February), I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, and Gretel & Hansel, as well as an episode of the recent revival of The Twilight Zone. He has also worked on the screenplays for the thriller Removal, the crime thriller Cold Comes the Night, and the horror film The Girl in the Photographs.

CAST

For many, the most eye-catching thing about Longlegs is the cast. Genre regular Maika Monroe, who has been seen in the likes of It Follows, The Guest, Independence Day: Resurgence, Tau, Villains, The Stranger, Watcher, and God Is a Bullet, stars as FBI Agent Lee Harker, a gifted new recruit assigned to the unsolved case of an elusive serial killer. As the case takes complex turns, unearthing evidence of the occult, Harker discovers a personal connection to the merciless killer and must race against time to stop him before he claims the lives of another innocent family.

That elusive serial killer is played by the legendary Nicolas Cage – and I’m sure a whole lot of people are going to be watching this movie just to get the chance to watch Cage play a serial killer. Also in the cast are Alicia Witt (Urban Legend, Fright Night Lights, Justified, Twin Peaks, The Exorcist) and Blair Underwood (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., L.A. Law, Dear White People, American Crime Story, Bad Hair). Who Witt and Underwood are playing, we don’t know for sure.

Cage is also producing Longlegs through his company Saturn Films, which recently had success with The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and Pig. Also producing are Dan Kagan, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Dave Caplan, and Chris Ferguson. Jason Cloth and Fred Berger of Automatik serve as executive producers with John Friedberg of Black Bear International.

POSSESSED GEPETTO

One of the most intriguing things we’ve heard about Longlegs is a description Cage gave to genre icon John Carpenter when Document Journal had the two sit down for a conversation. Cage told Carpenter the film is “about a character who’s hearing voices. It’s kind of like a possessed Geppetto, who’s making these dolls…” at which point Carpenter cut him off to laugh and say, “I like it. Possessed Geppetto. Man, oh man.”

TEASERS AND POSTERS

The teasers and posters have given fans plenty of images and occult symbols to pore over and try to decipher, if they are so inclined. Cage may be playing a homicidal possessed Gepetto, but he’s not the only one we’ve seen committing violent acts in these previews, so there’s definitely more going on here than a simple “FBI agent tracks down a killer” story. The posters feature things like an injured nun, a bunch of covered corpses, a young girl being creeped on outsider her home, and a woman cutting her own stomach open. These posters can be seen below, along with the captions Neon sent with them.

The teaser trailer at the top of this article came with its own creepy message: “You’ve got the teeth of the hydra upon you.” Neon revealed the release date by telling us, “The man downstairs is coming July 12.”

And that’s everything we know about Longlegs as of right now. Are you looking forward to this movie? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Melissa Barrera, social media controversy

Melissa Barrera was expected to reprise her role of Sam Carpenter for Scream 7, but the actress was fired by Spyglass media last year after the studio alleged that she made anti-Semitic comments on social media following the attack in Israel and the invasion of Gaza. Well, the actress has sparked more controversy in the last week, leading her representatives at WME and Sugar23 to wonder whether they should drop her as a client.

Melissa Barrera posted a link in her Instagram bio that prompted followers to donate money to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East. The group has been providing aid to Palestinian refugees for decades, but allegations recently emerged that some employees are members of Hamas and that 12 of them actually took part in the October 7th attacks. This has led multiple countries to put a pause on funding for the group, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy, Australia, and more.

According to Variety, the social media posts quickly spread within WME, with the agency reportedly consulting “outside advisors on the best approach to fire [Melissa Barrera] given that such a break could spark backlash.” Sources say that it got close, but both WME and Sugar23 have elected to keep her for now, even though some other clients and employees have complained.

Melissa Barrera does have one major studio project coming up with Abigail, the horror movie directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. It remains to be seen if Universal will include her in the marketing campaign and interview junkets moving forward, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see. “After a group of would-be criminals kidnap the 12-year-old ballerina daughter of a powerful underworld figure, all they have to do to collect a $50 million ransom is watch the girl overnight,” reads the official synopsis. “In an isolated mansion, the captors start to dwindle, one by one, and they discover, to their mounting horror, that they’re locked inside with no normal little girl.” Abigail is slated to hit theaters on April 19th.

Carl Weathers, Predator, Happy Gilmore, Tribute

Hollywood was dealt a major blow earlier today when it was announced that the great Carl Weathers had died. From Predator to Happy Gilmore to Star Wars, Carl Weathers had a hand in just about everything, so it’s no surprise that his many friends are paying tribute to the late actor.

Adam Sandler took to X to pay tribute to his Happy Gilmore co-star. “A true great man. Great dad. Great actor. Great athlete. So much fun to be around always,” Sandler wrote. “Smart as hell. Loyal as hell. Funny as hell. Loved his sons more than anything. What a guy!! Everyone loved him. My wife and I had the best times with him every time we saw him. Love to his entire family and Carl will always be known as a true legend.” Weathers played Derick “Chubbs” Peterson, a former pro golfer who lost a hand in an alligator attack.

Of course, you can’t think about Carl Weathers without thinking about Predator. He played Al Dillon, Dutch’s (Arnold Schwarzenegger) Vietnam War buddy who is now a CIA operative pushing too many pencils. “Carl Weathers will always be a legend. An extraordinary athlete, a fantastic actor, and a great person. We couldn’t have made Predator without him,” Schwarzenegger wrote on X. “And we certainly wouldn’t have had such a wonderful time making it. Every minute with him — on set and off — was pure joy. He was the type of friend who pushes you to be your best just to keep up with him. I’ll miss him, and my thoughts are with his family.

Jesse Ventura, who co-starred in Predator as Sgt. Blaine Cooper, added, “We lost an icon. Carl Weathers was a phenomenal talent, a true professional, and a dear friend. All my sympathies and love to his family. I loved working with him on Predator and then celebrating that film with him at various conventions in the ensuing years. Thank you, Carl.

The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau also issued a tribute to Carl Weathers, saying, “I am heartbroken by this devastating loss. He was a hero from my childhood who I was lucky enough to meet and then had the amazing good fortune to work with. He had the energy and curiosity of a young man paired with the wisdom that his rich life and career afforded him. My heart goes out to his family and countless admirers.

Pedro Pascal, who plays the titular bounty hunter in The Mandalorian, posted a photo of Weathers with the caption, “Words fail.” Katee Sackhoff, who plays Bo-Katan Kryze in the series, said, “There are no words. I’m in complete shock. Carl and I found a friendship off camera bonding over our love of the PNW and the importance of family. He was so proud of his family. Brendan Wayne said it best…never did I ever meet a guy who seemed like he would live forever. Rest in Peace my friend. I hope you’ve found your plot of land again.

A great many people loved Carl Weathers, and our hearts go out to his family and friends.

Cate Blanchett, Rami Malek, Noah Hawley, Star Trek

The Star Trek franchise can’t seem to catch a break on the big screen. There have been numerous Star Trek movies in development since the release of Star Trek Beyond almost eight years ago, including one from Fargo creator Noah Hawley. The project was pretty far along before Paramount pulled the plug, and Hawley has revealed that the movie would have starred Cate Blanchett and Rami Malek. Hot damn.

Noah Hawley discussed the Star Trek project on a recent episode of Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, speaking of his tales of “heartbreak” in Hollywood. “Yeah, I mean, I was going to make a Star Trek movie with Cate Blanchett and Rami Malek,” Hawley said. “Could have had that, America.

It’s unlikely that Cate Blanchett and Rami Malek had officially signed on, but Hawley has previously said that they were in the middle of major casting when the plug was pulled. “We were on the runway. There was major casting that we were in the middle of. We had a production schedule and I was getting ready to go to Australia,” Hawley said. “And then, as you said, new management. I guess in retrospect, what surprised me is not that Emma Watts came in and said, ‘Are you people crazy? This is a this is an untested crew. This is an original idea. We don’t know if this is going to work or not work.’ It’s that I got as far as I did under [former head of Paramount Motion Picture Group] Wyck [Godfrey] and [Paramount President] Jim [Gianopulos]. It was a really fun movie and I think it would have been a great film, but you can’t control these things. So we move on.

Bits and pieces of the project have emerged since it was axed, including that it would have featured an entirely new crew. “We’re not doing Kirk and we’re not doing Picard,” Hawley said in 2020. “It’s a start from scratch that then allows us to do what we did with ‘Fargo,’ where for the first three hours you go, ‘Oh, it really has nothing to do with the movie,’ and then you find the money. So you reward the audience with a thing that they love.” At the moment, there are several Star Trek movies in development, including Star Trek 4, which will be the “final chapter” of the J.J. Abrams crew, as well as a prequel taking place decades before the 2009 movie set to be helmed by Star Wars: Andor director Toby Haynes.

Cate Blanchett and Rami Malek would have been fun additions to the Star Trek franchise, but… who knows what the future will bring.

Superman: Legacy, composer, John Murphy

Superman: Legacy is set to kick off production next month, and director James Gunn took to Instagram to announce that John Murphy will be the composer for the upcoming DCU movie. The pair have worked together quite a bit, as Murphy composed the scores for The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Happy to announce that my frequent collaborator @johnmurphycomposer is scoring #SupermanLegacy,” Gunn wrote on Instagram. “John was one of the first people I called when I finished the script many months ago as I knew how incredibly important the score was to this production. John has been working tirelessly since, creating hours worth of music that we’ll play on set as we shoot & use in the edit & that will eventually be recorded with a glorious symphony for all of you. Welcome to the DCU, John!” In addition to his work with Gunn, Murphy is also known for Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, 28 Days Later, Miami Vice, Sunshine, 28 Weeks Later, Kick-Ass, and more.

Superman: Legacy will star David Corenswet (Pearl) as Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Ms. Maisel) as Lois Lane. The film will also feature Nathan Fillion (The Rookie) as Guy Gardner, a charismatic and slightly obnoxious member of the Green Lantern Corps; Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi (X-Men: First Class) as Mister Terrific; Anthony Carrigan (Barry) as Metamorpho; María Gabriela de Faría (Deadly Class) as The Engineer, a member of The Authority; Sara Sampaio (At Midnight) as Eve Teschmacher; and Skyler Gisondo (The Righteous Gemstones) as Jimmy Olsen. Nicholas Hoult is also set to appear as Lex Luthor, which Gunn finally confirmed late last year.

Co-chair of DC Studios Peter Safran has teased that Superman: Legacy will not be an origin story and will focus on “Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Superman represents truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned.Superman: Legacy is slated to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.

Do you think John Murphy is a good fit as the composer of Superman: Legacy?

Lew Temple, whose credits include The Devil’s Rejects, Rob Zombie’s Halloween, 31, The Walking Dead, The Third Saturday in October, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, is set to star in the psychological thriller Self Storage, which is based on writer/director Jay Bonansinga’s 2016 novel of the same name (you can pick up a copy HERE). Professional wrestler Chris Jericho, who had a cameo in Terrifier 2 and will be returning for Terrifier 3, is executive producing the film and will also have a key supporting role in it.

Self Storage tells the story of a heroin-addicted father and his son who accidentally lock themselves inside a self-storage unit. Surviving will depend on a battle with demons both real and manufactured by drug withdrawal. Temple will be playing the lead character, a guy named Johnny Fitzgerald. I’m a big fan of Temple, so I’m glad to see him getting the lead in a project like this.

For more information, we turn to the description of Bonansinga’s novel: Meet Johnny Fitzgerald, a lonely, divorced graphic illustrator with a major heroin habit—the one that cost him his marriage. A last-minute Christmas visit from his six-year-old son, Jacob, is a surprise but Johnny loves spending time with his little boy. They just need to run one errand before the Christmas festivities can begin: Johnny needs to retrieve a document from his unit in a self-storage warehouse on the outskirts of Chicago.

The enormous warehouse is deserted for the holidays, so the two are alone, in Johnny’s storage unit, as he hunts for the document. Suddenly, the roll-up door to the unit slams to the floor, locking them in. They are trapped in the unit, with no hope of rescue in the foreseeable future. They have no supplies or resources. They will battle thirst, hunger, and, for Johnny, perhaps the worst craving of them all—heroin. But this is only the beginning of Johnny’s painful education in de-tox. Because there is something dark and terrifying behind Johnny’s dope-sick hallucinations—something touched off by the place itself. And it’s coming for him and his son.

Variety reports that Jericho’s Babyface Assassin Productions gets an executive producing credit alongside Bonansinga and Jeff Siegel for Delirium Tremens, and Jason Cherubini for Dawn’s Light.

Galaxy Quest

Never give up! Never surrender! Never Surrender, the 2019 documentary about the making of beloved sci-fi comedy Galaxy Quest, is headed to Blu-ray later this month. Unfortunately it doesn’t come with a Protector case, although Vinegar Syndrome does have a nifty exclusive slipcover.

Here is the synopsis of Never Surrender: A Galaxy Quest Documentary, as per Blu-ray.com: “With beloved cult classic Galaxy Quest reaching its 20th Anniversary, this star-studded documentary unveils how the film turned fans into true heroes and predicted a future where geeks would rule the world! The cast and crew recall how a fire on set, the loss of a powerful director, and an unconvinced studio couldn’t stop the film that would never give up and never surrender!”

Bonus features on Never Surrender: A Galaxy Quest Documentary include: interviews with stars Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver, director Dean Paristo, writer Robert Gordon, and numerous notable fans like Lost creator Damon Lindelof and The Flash’s Greg Berlanti. Also housed on the disc will be b-roll bonus clips and the original trailer.

While Galaxy Quest was a hit with critics and did eventually make back its budget at the box office, the movie has since grown into a genuine cult favorite. While it may not get its own convention, it was honored during its 10th anniversary at the San Diego Comic Con, with fans treated to a live concert of music from the movie. Its indirect con ties are clear, too, as it not only features them in Galaxy Quest but foresaw just how gargantuan – and important to the target fanbase – they would become in the coming years. Let’s put it this way: in 1999, the year Galaxy Quest came out, SDCC had 42,000 people in attendance; on average, it at least triples that annually.

Sequel talk has been on and off for about 25 years now, with word coming last year that Paramount+ would be producing a TV series, which we all know needs to be subtitled The Journey Continues. Tim Allen previously said a sequel was in discussion, teasing, “There is constantly a little flicker of a butane torch that we could reboot it with. Without giving too much away, a member of Alan’s Galaxy Quest family could step in and the idea would still work.”

While you can watch Galaxy Quest on various streaming platforms, we would strongly encourage you to continue supporting physical media and pick up the Blu-rays of both Galaxy Quest and this doc. You can watch the trailer below.

Like an Apollo Creed uppercut to the senses, we’ve learned that Carl Weathers, the iconic actor in the Rocky film franchise, PredatorThe MandalorianHappy GilmoreAction Jackson, and so much more, has passed away at 76.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers,” his family said in a statement. “He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. … Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.”

Born on January 14, 1948, in New Orleans, Weathers was a titan of the silver screen and television domain with over 75 credits across his 50-year career. He is best known for playing Apollo Creed, Rocky Balboa’s rival-turned-friend in the Rocky film franchise. As the Master of Disaster, Apollo Creed was partly inspired by Muhammad Ali and remains the Italian Stallion’s most iconic opponent alongside Dolph Lundgren’s Ivan Drago.

As a champion of action cinema, Weathers played Colonel Al Dillon in 1987’s Predator. Attached to Major “Dutch” Schaefer (Arnold Schwarzenegger) in the fight against a hostile alien game hunter, Dillon’s ability to wreck shop alongside Dutch is aspirational and the stuff of action cinema legend.

Weathers also leads the 1988 crime comedy Action Jackson. In one of the actor’s most unforgettable roles, ‘Action’ Jackson pursues a power-hungry auto magnate who eliminates his competition until he corners the market. With snappy one-liners galore and adrenaline coursing through his veins, Weathers’ performance in Action Jackson delivers heat, humor, and grandeur.

Neon has previously released four quick and creepy teaser trailers for Longlegs, the latest horror project from The Blackcoat’s Daughter (a.k.a. February), I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, and Gretel & Hansel director Osgood Perkins. Today, a new teaser trailer has arrived online, and this shows a little more than we’ve seen previously, including multiple people committing acts of violence, scenes with Maika Monroe of It Follows and The Guest, and even glimpses of the character being played by Nicolas Cage (Dream Scenario). You can check it out in the embed above. Longlegs is set to reach theatres on July 12th.

Back when we heard that Georgina Campbell was starring in the psychological horror film Lovely, Dark, and Deep, she was best known for winning a BAFTA TV leading actress award for her role in the 2014 TV movie Murdered by My Boyfriend. Since then, we’ve seen her name around here quite a lot, due to her roles in films like All My Friends Hate Me, Barbarian, Bird Box: Barcelona, T.I.M., and the upcoming The Watchers, Cold Storage, and Psycho Killer. As for Lovely, Dark, and Deep, it’s set to receive a VOD release on February 22nd, and we have the trailer embedded below.

This project marks the feature directorial debut of Teresa Sutherland, who previously wrote Emma Tammi’s horror western The Wind and was a staff writer on the Netflix / Mike Flanagan series Midnight Mass. The story of this “cosmic thriller” sees Campbell taking on the role of Lennon, who seizes the opportunity to assume the coveted role of a back-country ranger at a remote outpost. While adapting to her solitary existence in the wilderness, she becomes aware of a lurking, sinister presence. Driven by the need for answers, Lennon embarks on a journey through the ominous terrain, seeking to unveil the long-standing mystery that has haunted her since childhood.

Campbell is joined in the cast by Wai Ching Ho, who played Madame Gao on the Netflix / Marvel shows Daredevil, Iron Fist, and The Defenders, and the awesomely named Nick Blood, best known for playing Lance Hunter on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Here, Ho is playing District Ranger Zhang, “the most senior ranger in the national park, who will do anything to protect it”, while Blood takes on the role of Jackson, “a seasoned park ranger encountered by Lennon deep in the backcountry”.

Lovely, Dark, and Deep was produced by Josh Waller of Woodhead Creative. Stefanie Coimbra of House of Quest Films serves as executive producer alongside QWGmire’s Molly C. Quinn, Matthew M. Welty, and Elan Gale.
