The Conjuring

The Conjuring film franchise is set to come to an end with the fourth installment, The Conjuring: Last Rites, which Warner Bros. has scheduled for a theatrical release on September 5, 2025 release. We had previously heard that this movie would be filming in the Atlanta, Georgia area, but apparently they’re doing some work across the pond as well, as we also heard that filming was scheduled to take place in London, England from September 10th through October 10th this year. Whatever the schedules and locations may be, The Conjuring: Last Rite is indeed currently in production – which producer James Wan has just proven by sharing an image from the set!

Showing the chairs meant for franchise stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, Wan wrote, “Always good to see and hang out with old friends. Gonna miss everyone. End of an era.

We don’t have any plot info on The Conjuring: Last Rites at this time, all we know that the story takes place in the United States in the 1980s. Wilson and Farmiga are back to play paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren again. Michael Chaves, who previously directed The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do ItThe Nun II, and the Conjuring Universe-adjacent The Curse of La Llorona, is at the helm of The Conjuring: Last Rites, working from a screenplay written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who also wrote The Conjuring 2 and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.

Franchise producers James Wan and Peter Safran are producing the film, with Michael Clear and Judson Scott serving as executive producers alongside Hans Ritter.

Wilson and Farmiga have been joined in the cast by Ben Hardy (Love at First Sight) and Mia Tomlinson (The Lost Pirate Kingdom). Details on the characters they’re playing have not been revealed.

A couple of months ago, industry scooper Daniel Richtman got his hands on these character descriptions from a casting call:

[ CARLY ]

No one knows how to make your mediocre job performance sting like a curmudgeonly co-worker at their wit’s end. They seem to know when you’re at your lowest point, then twist the knife to make you feel worse about not having the spoons to deal with tasks and unfinished projects. In Prime Video‘s Invincible Season 3 teaser trailer, Cecil (Walton Goggins) reads Mark (Steven Yeun) the riot act for botching a clean-up job for a group of criminal scum before reprimanding him for a laundry list of questions about why he’s slacking off. Like I said, no one gives you guff like a pissed-off co-worker.

Thankfully, Invincible Season 3 debuts on February 6, 2025, and there’s no mid-season break to give fans a reason to keyboard warrior their way through a period of impatience. Do you know how long it takes to produce an animated series? Exactly.

Invincible, Season 3, teaser trailer, prime Video

Based on the groundbreaking comic book by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley, the story revolves around 18-year-old Mark Grayson, who’s just like every other guy his age—except his father is (or was) the most powerful superhero on the planet. Still reeling from Nolan’s betrayal in Season One, Mark struggles to rebuild his life as he faces many new threats, all while battling his greatest fear – that he might become his father without even knowing it.

In case you forgot, the cast for Invincible includes a murderers’ row of Hollywood’s top talent, including Steven Yeun, with Sandra Oh, Zazie Beetz, Grey DeLisle, Chris Diamantopoulos, Walton Goggins, Gillian Jacobs, Jason Mantzoukas, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton, Zachary Quinto, Andrew Rannells, Kevin Michael Richardson, Seth Rogen, and J.K. Simmons. The executive producers are Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, Catherine Winder, Simon Racioppa, Margaret M. Dean, Rogen, and Evan Goldberg, and the co-executive producers are Helen Leigh and Walker.

Today’s Invincible Season 3 teaser trailer delivers on the show’s promise to bring fans a complete season from start to finish. Invincible is an ultra-violent superhero romp with a fourth and fifth season possibly on the way. Skybound Republic also wants to bring the world of Invincible to video game platforms after successfully funding a crowd-sourced project from EA, Activision, Blizzard, and AMZ Games devs.

The Gorge Scott Derrickson Miles Teller Anya Taylor-Joy

Up to this point, not much has been known about The Gorge, the latest film from Sinister, The Black Phone, and Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson. Announced two years ago, it’s an Apple Original Film coming our way from Skydance Productions and has Anya Taylor-Joy (Furiosa) and Miles Teller (Top Gun: Maverick) in the lead roles – and today, IGN has revealed some information about the film, which will be released through Apple TV+ sometime in 2025. Along with the info comes the unveiling of some first look images and a poster, which can now be seen in this article.

Based on a spec script by Zach Dean, The Gorge is said to be a high-action, genre-bending love story. We previously heard that it centers on two soldiers (Taylor-Joy and Teller) who are tasked with guarding a seemingly never-ending gorge with one agent posted on either side. IGN revealed that Teller and Taylor-Joy play elite snipers – one American, the other Lithuanian – stationed in watchtowers on opposite sides of a vast and highly classified gorge located in a faraway land whose exact location they’re not even allowed to know. Their mission? To safeguard the outside world from an undisclosed, mysterious evil that lurks within. They bond from a distance while trying to stay vigilant in defending against an unseen enemy. When the cataclysmic threat to humanity is revealed to them, they must work together in a test of both their physical and mental strength to keep the secret in the gorge before it’s too late.

Sigourney Weaver of the AlienAvatar, and Ghostbusters franchises is also in the cast.

David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger of Skydance Productions are producing the film with Crooked Highway’s Scott Derrickson, C. Robert Cargill, and Sherryl Clark, as well as Zach Dean, Adam Kohlbrenner, and Greg Goodman. The movie has been rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, brief strong language, some suggestive material and thematic elements.

Derrickson told IGN, “The Gorge blends multiple genres — romance, science fiction, action, spy thriller and even horror. The idea was to first invest a lot of time into the backstories and evolving connection between the two characters played by Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy, and then see them thrust into survival mode amidst the unrelenting and unpredictable dangers and mysteries of the gorge itself.

Does The Gorge sound interesting to you? Check out the first look images, then let us know by leaving a comment below.

A while back, Relativity Media picked up the North American distribution rights to director Warren Skeels’ true crime thriller The Man in the White Van from Garrison Film and Legion M, and they’re planning to give the film a theatrical release on December 13th. With that date just two months away, a trailer for The Man in the White Van has now arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.

Inspired by a series of crimes that shook the nation in the 1970s, The Man in the White Van was written by Skeels (who makes his narrative feature directorial debut here) and Sharon Y. Cobb. The story is said to delve into the harrowing experiences of Annie Williams, a spirited family girl, whose carefree existence is turned upside down as she finds herself stalked by an ominous man in a white van. Prone to exaggeration, her parents’ disbelief in her tales of being followed leads to a terrifying Halloween nightmare.

Here’s the official information: Based on true events. In 1975 Florida, a series of violent disappearances go unnoticed, and young Annie (Madison Wolfe) is targeted by an ominous white van that stalks her every move. As the menace escalates, her parents dismiss her fears, and Annie is soon plunged into a terrifying nightmare that shatters her world.

Madison Wolfe (The Conjuring 2) plays Annie Williams. Wolfe is joined in the cast by Sean Astin (Stranger Things), Ali Larter (The Rookie), Brec Bassinger (Stargirl), Gavin Warren (Night Swim), Skai Jackson (Jessie), and Julianne Arrieta (Freelance).

Skeels produced the film with Terri Lubaroff, Anne Marie Gillen, Michael Nole, and Paul Scanlan, while Astin and Larter served as executive producers alongside Gary Kompothecras, Lawrence Najem, Jeff Annison, David Baxter, Michael Arrieta, Marc Danon, Lex Miron, and David Robbins.

Arrieta, Chief Operating Officer at Relativity Media, provided the following statement: “The Man in the White Van is a flat-out frightening story with an incredible ensemble cast, and the teams behind it have produced a film that’s both visceral and topical. Watching this in a crowded theater is truly the best way for viewers to experience this tension-packed thrill ride as realized by Warren and his talented crew.

Krypto, Superman, James Gunn

Who’s the best boy? Krypto, that’s who! Superman’s forever-faithful canine companion, Krypto, is making his debut today for James Gunn’s Superman, with a moving image of the Man of Steel and his very good boy enjoying a moment away from the madness of planet Earth. Gunn shared the photo on social media on Tuesday alongside a brief history of how Krypto became a part of the filmmaker’s highly-anticipated film, starring David Corenswet as Big Blue.

Today’s image of Superman and Krypto shows the Last Son of Krypton and his favorite doggo, Krypto, enjoying a respite from crime-fighting on the moon. As the Earth rotates in the distance, the heroes take a moment to enjoy a job well done and listen for when they’re needed next. Surprisingly, the image is calming as the Earth spins on its axis, with Supes and Krypto observing their beloved blue dot.

In his post, Gunn says Superman‘s Krypto is inspired by his dog Ozu, whom he and Jennifer Holland (Peacemaker) adopted at the start of writing the upcoming film. Gunn details the growing pains of bringing Ozu into their home and the destruction that ensued, including eaten furniture, shoes, and Gunn’s laptop. Ozu’s arrival and unhinged disposition prompted Gunn to add Krypto to his Superman script.

Superman will star David Corenswet (Pearl) as Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Ms. Maisel) as Lois Lane. The film will also feature Nathan Fillion (The Rookie) as Guy Gardner, a charismatic and slightly obnoxious member of the Green Lantern Corps; Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi (X-Men: First Class) as Mister Terrific; Anthony Carrigan (Barry) as Metamorpho; María Gabriela de Faría (Deadly Class) as The Engineer, a member of The Authority; Sara Sampaio (At Midnight) as Eve Teschmacher; and Skyler Gisondo (The Righteous Gemstones) as Jimmy Olsen. Nicholas Hoult is also set to appear as Lex Luthor, which Gunn finally confirmed late last year.

Do you have any fun “pet destruction” stories? My wife and I adopted a kitten roughly a year and a half ago, and she’s a handful! Her name is Loki, which could not be more fitting as she is an agent of chaos. She climbs on everything, loves to sing the songs of her people, and is a bottomless pit when it comes to chowing down on cat food. I wouldn’t change anything about her; she is family.

James Gunn’s Superman comes to theaters on July 11, 2025. What do you think about the first image of Krypto? Let us know in the comments below.

You can watch it in the embed above.

Smile was based on Finn’s short film Laura Hasn’t Slept (watch it HERE), which won the Special Jury Recognition Prize in SXSW’s Midnight Short category. Caitlin Stasey (Neighbours) played the title character in that short, and reprises the role in Smile, making it a follow-up of sorts. Smile has the following synopsis: After witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient, Dr. Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon) starts experiencing frightening occurrences that she can’t explain. As an overwhelming terror begins taking over her life, Rose must confront her troubling past in order to survive and escape her horrifying new reality.

Here’s the Smile 2 synopsis: About to embark on a new world tour, global pop sensation Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events. Overwhelmed by the escalating horrors and the pressures of fame, Skye is forced to face her dark past to regain control of her life before it spirals out of control.

Naomi Scott of Aladdin and Charlie’s Angels takes on the role of Skye Riley and is joined in the cast by Lukas Gage of The White Lotus and You, Rosemarie DeWitt of La La Land and the Poltergeist remake, Dylan Gelula of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Dream Scenario, Raúl Castillo of Army of the Dead and Knives Out, Miles Gutierrez-Riley of The Wilds and On The Come Up, and Kyle Gallner (Red State), reprising the role he played in the first movie. A featurette revealed that Drew Barrymore (Scream) also makes an appearance, playing herself and interviewing Skye Riley on her talk show.

Smile was produced by Temple Hill, and they are producing Smile 2 as well.

What did you think of the final trailer for Smile 2? Will you be catching this movie on the big screen in a few days? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

The post Smile 2 gets a final trailer ahead of this week’s release appeared first on JoBlo.

Back in March, we heard that production had wrapped on the Stephen King adaptation The Monkey, which is coming our way from the team of producer / genre regular James Wan and director Osgood Perkins, whose credits include The Blackcoat’s Daughter (a.k.a. February), I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the HouseGretel & Hansel, and the recent Nicolas Cage horror film Longlegs (you can read our review HERE). Longlegs was released by Neon – and they’ll also be giving The Monkey a theatrical release on February 21, 2025. We saw a short teaser for this one back in August, and now a new teaser trailer has dropped online to give us a look at more footage from the film. You can check it out in the embed above.

Perkins wrote the screenplay for The Monkey, working from a King short story. The film will tell the following story: When twin brothers Hal and Bill discover their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths starts occurring all around them. The brothers decide to throw the monkey away and move on with their lives, growing apart over the years. But when the mysterious deaths begin again, the brothers must reunite to find a way to destroy the monkey for good before it takes the lives of everyone close to them.

Theo James (The White Lotus) plays the twins in later years, while Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth) plays them in their younger days. Also in the cast are Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings), Tatiana Maslany (SheHulkAttorney at Law), Colin O’Brien (Wonka), Rohan Campbell (Halloween Ends), and Sarah Levy (Schitt’s Creek).

James Wan and Michael Clear are producing The Monkey for Atomic Monster, while Jason Cloth and Dave Caplan produce for C2 Motion Picture Group. Executive producers include Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger of Automatik, Peter Luo and Nancy Xu of Stars Collective, John Friedberg of Black Bear, and Chris Ferguson. Atomic Monster and Stars Collective developed the project, and C2 Motion Picture Group provided the financing.

Wan previously provided the following statement: “Stephen King is the godfather of the horror genre. He had a huge influence on me as a child and throughout my career and it’s always been a dream to help bring one of his stories to life. The Monkey is a personal favorite, with its simple, iconic, and incredibly marketable conceit. And I can’t imagine anyone better than a visionary and lifelong genre fan like Osgood to bring this to life.

In addition to directing the films mentioned at the top of this article, Perkins directed an episode of the recent revival of The Twilight Zone. He has also worked on the screenplays for the thriller Removal, the crime thriller Cold Comes the Night, and the horror film The Girl in the Photographs.

Every studio and network is rolling out their genre offerings at that time of year. From horror to sci-fi to intense thrillers, everyone wants to scare you in October, and this new series by producer James Wan is at the top of the list. Based on the novel Stinger by Robert McCammon, Teacup is a perfectly scary story that is parsed out in thirty-minute chapters between now and Halloween.

Teacup tells the story of the Chenoweth family, who live on an isolated farmstead away from any populated areas. As Maggie and James deal with a rift in their marriage, their kids Arlo and Meryl are drawn into the fight as the neighboring Shanley family arrives with an injured horse. Soon, the two families are thrown into a mysterious conflict with a mysterious stranger who warns them that leaving their property could spell certain doom. As the story unfolds, we learn that what is about to happen to the Chenoweths has far-reaching implications for the entire world.

I got the chance to talk with the creator and cast of Teacup about the new series. Yvonne Strahovski talked about starring in a horror series and what it felt like as a parent of a small child. Scott Speedman discussed comparisons between this series and his work in The Strangers. Chaske Spencer and Rob Morgan reflected on their work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and how different this project was for both of them. Young stars Emilie Bierre and Caleb Dolden talked about playing kids in a horror story and how they forged a sibling bond. Series creator Ian McCulloch talked about long-term plans for the series past the first season and how he changed the narrative from the source material. Check out the full interviews in the embed above and read our review HERE.
