With Joker: Folie a Deux withering away at the box office, it seems likely that Warner Bros and DC are going to want to put a little distance between themselves and Todd Phillips’s disastrous sequel before the Clown Prince of Crime is welcomed back to the big screen (it seems highly unlikely he’ll figure into The Batman Part 2). However, sooner or later the Joker will return, as not one but two actors have won Oscars for playing the role (although Phoenix’s interpretation has been somewhat retconned). It’s just a delicious part to play, isn’t it? But, of all the actors, who was the best? Take the poll below and let us know!

Who is the best big-screen Joker?

ready or not sequel

Just a few weeks after Samara Weaving declared her interest in sequel to 2019’s Ready or Not, word comes that the Radio Silence horror flick is officially getting a follow-up…and we’re definitely ready!

While no details over plot or release schedule were announced, the Ready or Not sequel will bring back Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy as writers, in addition to Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett as directors. Weaving, too, will be returning as Grace, the central character of the original. In the 2019 movie, a bride meets her husband’s family, only to be drawn into the world’s most dangerous version of hide and seek.

Last month, Weaving expressed her drive in getting a Ready or Not sequel going and gave a tease of what was to come. “I’m all in. I think we’re all in, I don’t know. I think we’re all in. I don’t know if we’ve had our blood handshake, but pretty much. We’ve done the spit handshake, but we haven’t cut each other’s hands and rubbed our blood together.” Weaving has marked herself as a modern scream queen, with Scream VI, The Babysitter, Azrael, and more to her credit.

Like a lot of genre fans, we really dug the first Ready or Not, giving it an 8/10 in our original review, predicting its cult following that eventually led to a sequel. The movie did well with critics overall as well, holding a 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Outside of Ready or Not and the past two Scream movies, Radio Silence has kept their V/H/S anthology series alive, hitting their fourth entry with last year’s V/H/S/85, in which all of the films were set in 1985, playing off of their anthologies set in 1994 and 1999. Their most recent release was this year’s Abigail, while they have a stake in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming Fountain of Youth.

Are you looking forward to the sequel to Ready or Not? Where do you think the story will go? Draw your card and let us know below!

When All Hallow’s Eve was released back in 2013, I doubt many of us thought we’d be getting a whole franchise out of the creepy miming clown. Yet we just saw the release of the third entry in the Terrifier franchise–and it’s set at Christmas! So we here at JoBlo wanted to take a look back on the series and see where exactly they fall in terms of quality. Because it’s the rare series that seems to “level up” with each entry, always improving upon the production in some way. Though, they’ve always had the blood and guts handled pretty well. After all, if there’s one thing the series is known for: it’s the gore. But there are also some great characters and shocking moments that give each film their distinct personalities. So let’s see where they fall!

The Worst: Terrifier 2 (2022)

I’ll probably get heat for this but I’ve never been a fan of the second entry. It’s too long and I never got into the strange backstory with Sienna. And the acting from young Jonathan made my ears bleed. But there are still plenty of great kills in this, as Art really languishes in the torture this time around. Plus, Lauren LaVera‘s Sienna has one of the most iconic final girl outfits of all time, with her winged warrior costume. And Art is really starting to get into his murder groove.

All Hallow’s Eve (2013)

Art the Clown appears in all three stories of this anthology film and it’s not quite the fully formed Art that we’re used to seeing. You may notice the makeup is a bit different and that’s because it’s not David Howard Thornton underneath it. Instead, Mike Giannelli plays Art and it’s decidedly less interesting. Art is still scary due to Leone’s vision for the character, but he does seem to be missing that special something. Even so, the stories unfolding are pretty gnarly, with several unexpected victims.

Terrifier (2016)

One thing that the first film does so well is feeling like an old campfire tale. Art is a force of nature and you feel terrible for anyone that crosses his path here. Catherine Corcoran has one of the best deaths of the series and it establishes Art as being absolutely ruthless. There’s not much in terms of character here as this is definitely the Art the Clown show. And that’s not a bad thing as he definitely leans into the more “mime on the verge of snapping” approach.

The Best: Terrifier 3 (2024)

Rarely does the third (fourth?) entry in a franchise end up being the best, especially when it goes for a gimmick like setting the film at Christmas. Yet somehow Terrifier 3 provides a truly fantastic experience from start to finish. From shocking moments that you can’t believe are actually happening to a more succinct plot, there’s a lot for horror fans to latch onto. Plus, is there anything better than people leaving your movie early because they’re so offended at what’s happening on screen? If anything, it’s a mark of pride. I absolutely loved this film and feel it’s the perfect way to do a holiday film, while not being beholden to the holiday for your plot. This allows the film to be watched whenever versus simply at Christmas time, which makes this a massive win.

How would YOU rank the Terrifier series? What did you think of Terrifier 3? Is Art the Clown a worthy bad guy? Let us know in the comments below!

wild robot sequel

Sometimes you ever know what the best-reviewed films of the year will be. And right now, one of them is The Wild Robot, the rare original film that DreamWorks was able to shimmy in between their Trolls, Kung Fu Panda and Shrek movies. But, taking a cue from these franchises, the studio has greenlit a sequel even though The Wild Robot has only been out for two weeks.

Now, The Wild Robot has already crossed $110 million worldwide, with the bulk coming domestically (it’s currently tracking to take the #2 spot at the box office this week, behind Terrifier 3). With that, we shouldn’t be surprised that a sequel for The Wild Robot is moving forward. This was all confirmed by director Chris Sanders, who said, “100% yes there are absolutely plans for a second one.” Details are obviously vague or nonexistent at this point but that’s still encouraging.

Sanders – who was also responsible for Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon, the latter with DreamWorks – previously praised the studio and expressed his interest in a sequel, telling NBC, “I would very much like to [do a sequel to The Wild Robot]. I think the entire crew really, really involved themselves in this film in a way that I’ve never seen before, myself included. This was a labor of love on the part of everybody at the studio, and yes, I think I’d love to go and stay here for a while.”

Lupita Nyong’o, who voices Roz, has also been open about being down for a sequel to The Wild Robot. And considering how terrific she is here and the depth she brings to the character, no doubt fans would welcome the return. The rest of the voice cast includes Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, Catherine O’Hara, Mark Hamill, Matt Berry, Bill Nighy, and Ving Rhames.

The Wild Robot will likely see a Best Animated Feature Oscar nomination, potentially even stopping Inside Out 2 from nabbing another for the series. To date, DreamWorks only has two wins in the category out of 14 nominations. One of these was for Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, and the studio could also find themselves facing off against that series’ follow-up, Vengeance Most Fowl, after they were dumped by Nick Park and company.

Despite the excellent box office, Dreamworks is giving the movie a rather quick debut on VOD, with it set for release on Tuesday. Is this too soon, and are you ready for a sequel? Let us know in the comments!

ledger joker

Heath Ledger’s turn as The Joker in 2008’s The Dark Knight remains one of the most chilling performances of this century, the actor eventually winning a posthumous Oscar for the defining portrayal of The Clown Prince of Crime. Based on peeks and teases, we knew we would be in for something special when the film came out. And so did Ledger himself, fully aware just how powerful the performance and The Dark Knight would be.

Recounting working with Heath Ledger on The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Andrew Garfield (Anton) remembered the star telling him about his go as The Joker. “He had just done the Joker, he had just finished doing The Dark Knight, and he was so smug about it. I was like, ‘How did that go?’ and he was like, ‘Yeah, it’s really good.’”

However, Heath Ledger wouldn’t find everything to be funny surrounding the promotion of The Dark Knight, especially with how some publications were depicting The Joker. “I remember his like, Empire magazine cover came out and he was like, ‘Oh, they used a f*cking sh*t photo. And I was like, ‘Are you kidding me, dude that looks f*cking incredible.’ And he was like, ‘Nah, the pose is all wrong, it looks kinda like a conventional version of what an actor…you’ll see.’ And yeah, I did see.” The cover in question, from Empire’s January 2008 edition, is a still from the scene where Ledger’s The Joker is in jail, accompanied by the insanely corny text, “He’s a cold-blooded, mass-murdering clown!” Yeah, we can see why he took issue with it…

Tragically, Heath Ledger would never see the theatrical version of The Dark Knight, dying six months before its release. He would become only the second – and is the most recent – actor to win an Academy Award posthumously. Ledger has another Oscar distinction, as his and Joaquin Phoenix’s wins for playing The Joker made them the second pair to nab statues for playing the same character. The first was  Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro for Vito Corleone; they would later be joined by Rita Moreno and Ariana DeBose for West Side Story’s Anita.

Heath Ledger died during the making of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, with the likes of Johnny Depp, Jude Law and future fellow Batman villain Colin Farrell standing in for his character.

finn wolfhard

It feels like we have a steady stream of scream queens right now, with the likes of Mia Goth, Samara Weaving and Melissa Barrera all eligible for a crown. But we don’t have many going for the scream king title. Really, the biggest name that comes to mind is Finn Wolfhard, but even he isn’t sure he’s deserving.

When People asked him about the so-called “scream king” designation, Finn Wolfward replied, “That’s such a huge compliment….I’ve never heard that before. You’re the first to say it, but that’s really nice. I’m not sure. I don’t know if I’ve done enough horror movies yet.” This coming from the guy who seems to have made a pretty good living so far in plenty of horror and sci-fi fare, including the It movies, the most recent Ghostbusters entries and Floria Sigismondi’s The Turning. He has even dipped into the realm of animated spooky fare, providing the voice of Pugsley in the animated Addams Family movie. And of course there is his breakout series Stranger Things, which is set to conclude with the upcoming season. The dude has found his calling, that’s for sure.

This would all seem enough for Finn Wolfhard to be eligible, but he’s not so sure what makes him a proper fit, adding, “I don’t really know what the qualifications are of being a scream queen or king, but it’s definitely really nice.”

But Finn Wolfhard most definitely wouldnt be alone as a modern scream king, as there are still plenty of other contenders. Probably the biggest name that pops up is Bill Skarsgård, who danced around Wolfhard’s own Losers Club as Pennywise (a role he’ll reprise on It – Welcome to Derry next year), confirmed his loyalty to Stephen King with Castle Rock and will star in Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu this December. And we can’t possibly ignore Justin Long and his contributions to modern horror, including Barbarian, which also starred Skarsgård.

Do you think Finn Wolfhard is deserving of the “scream king” title? Who in modern horror is the reigning king of the genre? Give us your picks in the comments section below.

christopher reeve superman

Ask a room full of Batman fans who the best onscreen version was and you’ll get a split vote. While some will take Christian Bale, others will go back a generation for Michael Keaton. At the same time, Robert Pattinson developed a fast following and Kevin Conroy reinvented the Caped Crusader for the small screen. But when you ask everyone’s favorite Superman, it’s always Christopher Reeve. Many have donned the tights and cape in the 25+ years since he last did, but he has been unchallenged by every one of them.

The next man to play Superman will be David Corenswet, who will have to be more powerful than a locomotive to bring DC Studios into a new, successful era. On this, Christopher Reeve’s son Will said he has very little involvement with James Gunn’s Superman, even though he did film a cameo. “We’ve got to pump the brakes on my involvement. I have no insight into the plot, and I have no idea what the movie is about other than Superman. Christopher Reeve is the definitive Superman. But to have this film and the relaunch of Superman coincide with one another is kismet. We didn’t necessarily calculate that; it just worked out conveniently.”

Christopher Reeve’s son isn’t saying anything groundbreaking when he calls his father’s go as Superman the “definitive one”. But who would take the #2 spot? While many men have played the character over the years, certainly not all of them were good or left a mark. But credit where it’s due, Henry Cavill did a strong job and brought some depth to Clark Kent/Superman, while Brandon Routh had potential but didn’t exactly fly (it didn’t help that he was the first Superman after Reeve’s 2004 death).

As Christopher Reeve never took to the small screen as Superman, that leaves the field wide open there. On this front, it’s tough to challenge Smallville’s Tom Welling and Tyler Hoechlin, who played the Man of Steel on Supergirl and Superman & Lois. And how can we not mention George Reeves?

Who do you think takes the #2 spot after Christopher Reeve in the list of best Superman actors? Give us your pick in the comments section below!

After season three of Chucky ended, fans were subjected to a painfully long wait as the show’s future was decided. Ultimately, USA/SyFy/Peacock canceled Chucky and the entire horror world shed a bloody tear. Even if you weren’t a fan of the franchise, it’s hard to deny how great it was having a classic horror villain get such a mainstream spotlight. Hell, we even got to see Chucky kill WWE Women’s Champion Liv Morgan. It’s the kind of thing that only works in the ludicrous world of Chucky. And with Season 3 ending off on such a cliffhanger, this cancellation really leaves fans high and dry. But there’s still hope in multiple forms.

Don Manicini mentioned earlier this year that he was prepping another movie involving Chucky and it would “work in tandem with the TV show.” Obviously, with this change of events, I’m sure the movie can serve as a mixture of what it was originally intended to be, as well as wrap up loose ends from the show. And if the show is absolutely gone then fine. A movie would be a nice way to wrap things up. But I’d argue that hope is not lost yet for another season either because…

Another Network could easily pick up Chucky and air it on their channel/streaming platform!

We’ve seen Manifest get saved by Netflix and then be a massive hit for them but that was far from the first time. The Mindy Project, Brooklyn 99, Warrior Nun, Magnum P.I., Cougar Town, and Lucifer are among many shows that have been canceled, only to be revived by another network or streamer. Many have been quite successful, with even the failures still providing a conclusion for fans who would have otherwise been shafted. And the one common thread with all of these shows is having a devoted fanbase that campaigned for the show to return to the air. But what about the cast themselves?

Most have already taken to social media to show their support for the #SaveChucky campaign. I was fortunate enough to talk with Don and the entire cast about the show during promotion for Season Three and it’s evident this is a labor of love. So I can’t imagine it would be difficult to get them back. But like anything in life, the more time that passes, the less likely it is to happen. So it’s time for fans of Chucky and Child’s Play to go on social media, and make their presence known. And just by looking on any social media platform, you can see the #SaveChucky campaign in full force.

And there’s one element that isn’t being talked about nearly enough in the midst of all of this: Chucky being canceled effectively retires Brad Dourif. As we discovered during my talk with him, Dourif considers himself retired from acting outside of his performance as Chucky. And as someone who’s not ready to say goodbye to Dourif or his lovely voice on screen, this is all the more reason to want the show back. And if that’s not enough to motivate you, then I don’t know what will.

So make sure you’re still using the #SaveChucky tag on social media to help show that there is an interest out there for more Chucky. Because after getting three seasons of this little bastard wreaking havoc on television, the world feels a little more empty knowing we won’t get to see Devon Sawa die in another horrific way.

Do you think we’ll get another season of Chucky? Do social media fan campaigns even work? Would a movie be a better idea? Let us know in the comments below!

When Dana Carvey introduced American audiences to “Choppin’ Broccoli” on Saturday Night Live, it did what all SNL sketches hope to do: stick in the psyche. Never again will that generation be able to dice up that disgusting green veggie – or even walk past it in the supermarket – without drumming up that song. And even Dana Carvey can’t believe we still love it.

The “Choppin’ Broccoli” sketch – which is formally known as “Derek Stevens” – actually turns 38 this month, having first premiered during season 12 of SNL, with two more appearances that season and one final one in 13. But this wasn’t an ordinary SNL sketch for Dana Carvey, having first developed the idea as a kid. “‘Choppin’ Broccoli’ was one of the first laughs I ever remember getting in my life. I was just imitating chopping broccoli to my parents and sisters, and them being like, ‘Look at this precocious little ham.’ When I hear other people do it, it makes me laugh, but as I was doing it, I’m still mystified by the character’s success.” Prior to its SNL success, Dana Carvey worked the bit into his standup routine.

For those who have yet to see the SNL sketch in question, it finds Dana Carvey playing Derek Stevens, who aspired to get signed to a record label but ends up having to make up songs off the cuff. Hence, a song about a woman who chops some broccoli titled “The Lady I Know”. Here are some sample lyrics: There’s a lady I know / If I didn’t know her / She’d be the lady I didn’t know / And my lady, she went downtown / She bought some broccoli / She brought it home / She’s choppin’ broccoli…

Dana Carvey added that this particular SNL sketch “may be the thing I’m referenced to most in many ways. I don’t know what it is about it.” Fly on the Wall co-host David Spade confirmed that it remains funny precisely because it’s not funny. The recurring sketch is often cited as one of Carvey’s greatest – and has made numerous appearances on “Best SNL Sketches Ever” lists – but I’m more of a Massive Head Wound Harry guy myself…

At one point, there was even a plan to kill off the character, with the idea kicked around in-sketch that if Derek Stevens dies, his record sales would go through the roof…It would also rid the world of those awful songs.

Where would “Choppin’ Broccoli” rank in your favorite Dana Carvey SNL sketches?
